Lovely setting but downhill from there. They were out of stock of my 1st and 2nd choice drinks despite being on the menu. Then it took the waitress a good 15 minutes to come back ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/12/2013

My boyfriend and I wanted to spend Valentines there, but as students a full menu is out of our price range. We booked our reservations 5 weeks in advance, with the note on our reservation that we would just get dessert and drinks. February 12, we were called. Unless we would spend $60 per person, our reservations would be canceled. We couldn't, reservations canceled. Try finding Valentine reservations 2 days before. Disappointed and ruined plans. more

perfect atmosphere,service, and presentation. 5/30/2010

Jonothan was a great server, he was attentive and explained the dishes perfectly in a friendly way. Amazing bread and mussel appetizer was delicious. The two dishes we had were lightly seasoned, perfect to get the flavor out of the fish and portion size was not too big and not too small. All in all it was a great experience. Pricey but if you have the money to spend this is a great date spot or family gathering. Pros: patio, immaculate service, great presentation, great bread Cons: Pricey more

Great French Food, Great French Staff 2/16/2009

My husband and I visited hear last night to celebrate Valentines Day. The ambience was great. Quaint & cozy. Great selection of wines and a wide variety of meal choices for every palette. While we were there, we spotted atleast 5 French customers. That?s when you know the food is good. We recommend this place to everyone. more

Best: great food 10/16/2008

I had lunch outside on the patio and the atmosphere is wonderful. Unfortunately it took about 15 minutes to be greeted by a waitress. Once I was noticed, she was friendly and attentative. I had the Croque-Monsieur (a favorite of mine) and theirs was wonderful! I had creme brulee for dessert - yummy! I will be back for the steak-frites. Pros: food, ambience Cons: Parking more

As French as it gets in this city 6/2/2008

Here's the deal. This restaurant is as French as it gets in the city. The staff, owners, managers and even cooks parle vous Francais (albeit some with a Dude-Bro accent). Like any good bistro on the Champs Elysee in Paris or on the small back streets of Amien a true French meal takes time. The place will seem cramped and loud but the food an wine will be exceptional! I admit its not for most in this ""I want it yesterday society"" but I know most can grow to appreciate it, especially if you partake in the wine list as soon as you sit down. Granted my party and I went through two bottles of phenomenal Bordeaux before ingesting an ounce of Gazpacho or Escargot but we truly enjoyed the time we spent together. We got especially loud thanks to the good friends and good wine but no one seemed to care in the slightest (other than my girlfriend who kept telling me to quiet down). Anis is a place you go with people you don't just put up with for a few hours but people you truly enjoy spending time with and conversing. The menu is truly for the French at heart filled with cheese covered, cream-filled goodness (and of course calories). If you dare as I did be sure to hide everything, Parking is difficult on the weekends, they dont have many parking spots behind the restaurant and you have to be lucky to get a spot close by on the street. On a side note service is friendly and the food and wine are very reasonably priced. Pros: As authentic as it gets in Atlanta Cons: Parking more

Great Atmosphere; Forgettable Food 5/11/2008

I give Anis 5 stars for atmosphere. It's very charming and quaint...almost as if you are dining in a friend's garden. Even the food presentation was impressive. All of the workers were also very nice and pleasant. Pros: Atmosphere and Presentation of Food Cons: High Prices; Low Quality Food more

We were totally impressed 8/28/2007

This is a casual French Bistro. Unlike typical French restaurants, they do give you generous portions. I had the duck confit and mushroom salad, which was loaded with shredded duck on a bed of greens and mushrooms. If you wish, you can ask them to hold the mushrooms, it'll be just as good. I did not order the mussels, but they looked yummy. My husband ordered their special - monk fish, well worth the money. To top it off, their prices are great. This restaurant definitely climbed onto our favorite list. Bon Appetit. Pros: good value for your money, food was outstanding, good service Cons: Not a formal dinner setting, if that's what you're looking for more

Pleasant Atmosphere 6/12/2007

The overall experience was very enjoyable. We sat on the porch which was great. There is a good selection of wines by the glass. The menu is good, not great. I would say the best part of the experience was the low-key atmosphere that allowed for conversation. Pros: Atmosphere more

Unlike any restaurant in the city 6/11/2007

This is a find. Only locals here. Let the staff order for you. You just can't go wrong. Cons: I can't find a con. A hidden gem in Atlanta. more

Casual Fine Dining 3/9/2007

My boyfriend and I went to Anis last night to celebrate his birthday. We decided to go there just because we got $10 gift certificate from restaurant-dot-com and the description on that website sounded good. We made a reservation, but it didn't seem necessary when we got there. We sat on the patio where there was a live jazz band. The asmosphere was lovely and casual. Although people around us were above 50 and dressed sophisticated, we felt very comfortable. (We were in jeans and sneakers.) The waiters/waitresses/ were nice and pateint. They had to stop by 3-4 times before we could make a decision. Everything on the menu sounded great with an unexpectedly low prices, for the quality. We both agreed that they definitely gave us more food than other French restaurants. We ordered Escagots, Anis Bouillabaisse, and a rabbit pasta dish, and they were fantastic. The cook used a lot of herbs, especially garlic and paper in the escargots, which I loved. At the end of the meal, we got a chocolate cake and coffees. When the bill came, we chatted with the waitress and told her that it was my boyfriend's birthday before giving her my card. She came back with the new bill and the cake was taken out. We were surprised. Pros: Food, Asmoshere, Patio, Live Band Cons: parking more

Perfect ""Buckhead"" Lunch! 12/11/2006

On the way to Lenox Square today, to finish the last of our Holiday Shopping, we decided to treat ourselves to the perfect Buckhead lunch. And what a tasty treat it was. We started with a nice glass of Clois de Bois, and both ordered the perfect French Onion Soup. Plenty of hot melted cheese, nicely browned around the edges, and just sweet enough. I had Anis's perfect Chicken Marsala, and my partner had Veal Piccata. Portions were on target, and excellent service by our French waitron. We love this place, so do the Buckhead Betty's. They always provide us with that perfect little touch of catty entertainment. Pros: Great French Lunch! Excellent Service! Cons: n/a more

C'est La Vie 9/7/2006

Anis is just what I have been looking for in Atlanta. It is small, unique, eclectic, had great jazz music, delisous French food (try the escargot!), and a delightful French waitress. The atmosphere was perfect for a date, although I would definately go back there for a night with friends. You definatley don't feel like you are in Atlanta! more

Most authentic 9/5/2006

Anis is a true Atlantan jewel. The food is superb and the atmosphere is authentic and very romantic. You truly feel as though you are in a bistro or cafe in the South of France. The moules frites taste as though you ordered them in a Parisian bistro. The food and wine is affodably priced and Anis is the perfect place to take a date. Pros: Food is exceptional and worth the wait on a busy night Cons: parking can be challenging on a very busy weekend night more

Great food and atmosphere; WORST service in town 7/26/2006

I went to Anis last night with three friends. We were seated promptly out on the lovely patio, no problem. Then the problems started. Pros: food, wine, atmosphere Cons: SERVICE, parking more

AUTHENTIC AND LOVELY!! 7/5/2006

This place reminds me of classic great little hideaway bistros in small villages. I love to hear them speaking French in the bar. The steak frites are delicious, have it with a nice cote du rhone!! Pros: great terrace for outside dining, good food Cons: parking more
