Liars, Thieves, and Scam Artists! 8/14/2007

Four days ago, my Mother's car overheated while driving along Elliott Avenue. Luckily (..or so she thought.), she was able to pull right into the Goodyear shop before they closed for the day. After the shop Manager had a mechanic take a look (..for a $45 "diagnostic Fee".), he told her that she had a blown head gasket, complete with antifreeze in the engine cylinders and "..who know what else..". He then advised her that she would need a new water pump, a new timing belt, and that " might also need rings and valves. We won't know until we get in there". The total estimate he gave her for their work was $2,000, and he said that that figure might go up, "..depending on what we find when we get in there"! Before authorizing the work, my Mother happened to call me for a little advice. I'm well aware of the predatory practices some shops employ when they feel they've got a helpless victim, so I suggested she have the car towed to Ty's Automotive on Delridge in West Seattle for a second opinion. I'd heard from several friends about Ty's, and I was sure they'd take care of her. After Ty's had a chance to take a look, they called with their opinion. The final result? All the car needed was a new Thermostat. With all the labor, and the new part, a grand total of $75. But what about the antifreeze in the engine cylinders, the blown Head Gasket, the water pump, etc.??? All LIES from Goodyear. There was NO antifreeze in the cylinders. There was NO blown Head Gasket. There WERE and ARE a bunch of lying, thieving people working at Goodyear Auto Service Center on Elliott Avenue though, and it won't be long before the BBB and the WA Attorney General's office know about them too. Steer clear of these incompetent liars! more
