Service? What service 11/2/2009

This restaurant has to be a candidate for the distinction of being the most miserable provider of service I’ve ever encountered among eateries. I boycotted it for probably 2 years after finding that it took them 10 to 20 minutes to prepare me a simple vegetable sandwich in the wee hours of the morning – 3 vegetables and sauce on sub bread – even if I was their only customer. I recently let down my guard and went into the building and ordered 2 off-the-shelf bagels, toasted and buttered. There was but one small table of diners in the building, and one couple who came in and either ordered something from or chatted with the clerk at the counter. After 8 minutes I got up and demanded my $1.95. An employee in front summoned the manager, who wouldn’t refund my money, just battered me with questions. Ten minutes (I was tracking) after I placed my order I said I was leaving right then, and if I didn’t receive my money, I would head to the police department and lodge a theft complaint. Incidentally, just before I left, I found out my bagels had been sitting and cooling on the counter for an unknown number of minutes. I used to frequently patronize a Hortons in Flint Township, 25 miles away, and the fellow who usually waited on me said he’d been at Owosso and was struck by their incompetence, though he was personally attracted to at least one of them. I called the local chamber of commerce for information and learned they know nothing about Hortons because it didn't join the chamber, which has virtually universal membership among local enterprises. Reading the few favorable comments on this site about this outlet, they sound like boilerplate to me. Is this the diner equivalent to motels stacking review sites with their own self-promotion? It's time to do more recruiting to Owosso. Jerry R. more
