Chef Lahlou takes Moroccan food to ethereal levels using spices that delight the senses. Cocktails are a must with their muddled mash-ups.

The evening had many ups and downs. Our waiter didn't even bring us napkins for our laps. We had to flag down another waiter for napkins and this was after our first course had ar...

very good (mostly) morrocan cuisine 10/20/2005

Wife and i split seafood wrapped in phyllo dough for appetizer. Very well made, flaky, phyllo. Had lamb shank w/ couscous, also excellent. moist, meaty shank, good sauce (w/ apricot and prune in it - very good). Nicely seasoned couscous. Also had the berber tagine. Total w/ 1 glass wine came to about 50.00 + tip. Considered it good value for the money, and have been to several other morrocan places around this country and in Morrocco.. I strongly recommend it. Our service was excellent. The guy was good at describing everything and didnt try to foist off anything on us. Even asked how my wifes wine (a dry rose) went with the meal, as he hadn't tried that pairing before. Didn't try the desserts (were too full), but some appeared interesting. Pros: very good food, good service Cons: parking? more

Excellent dining experience! 9/16/2005

Between 5 of us, we ordered several of the small plates/ appetizers (recommended: mediterranean spreads, sausages, keftas, spinach & feta fingers), basteeya, and 3 entrees to share, instead of each getting their own entree. Almost every thing we ordered was fantastic. The guinea hen entree was a bit too salty for a couple of us, but the rest of the group seemed not to mind. The vegetable tagine was quite bland. Our server was very attentive and her recommendations were all very good. They have some unusual cocktails on the menu... be sure to try the ""cilantro kaffir lime-ade"" and ""ginger & pear"". Pros: food, service, cocktails more

Food OK - but way overpriced 9/1/2005

Spent approx $120 not including tip two of us. Ordered several cocktails and a glass or two of wine apiece - but even so - we should have only payed about $60. They charge twice as much as they should for EVERYTHING. Only willing to cough up money for the exotic cocktails which were EXCELLENT! A half glass of wine in a full size goblet costs $8. Ordered 3 different appetizers - two were puny. One was a teeny goat cheese in tomato sauce deal. The other was 3 little phyllo dough things. Each cost $8. Ordered basteya - which was good but cost $16. These folks'll survive on special events tourist trade since the neighborhood isn't trendy. It was Saturday night and no one was at the bar. Also having foot traffic behind you while seated at the bar is unattractive, uncomfortable, cumbersome and annoying. Pros: pretty, great cocktails Cons: too expensive, too dark, not enough food more

Great Place 8/2/2005

This place doesn't miss a beat. The food is good and so is the service. They even have valet parking..Make sure to make reservations. Pros: valet parking Cons: very popular more

Impressed The First Time Not The Second 7/30/2005

Loved my first experience at Aziza and was really looking forward to my second trip but was dissapointed. We were given an uncomfortable table in the back room. Rushed by the waitress who over sold the tasting menu which we regretfully went for and regret it. It was overpriced and appetizers that came with it were the cheepest and least interesting on the menu. Waitress did not have any knowlege of the wine list. Wine by the glass offerings very limited. All in all food is great but in general OVERPRICED...$180 for 2 people for dinner?? Pros: Great Food Cons: Overpriced more

good service, good food 7/12/2005

A friend and I went on a recommendation and weren't disappointeed! The ambience was kinda modern with arabic details, the staff was pretty attentive. the mediterranean spreads was really delish; i had the lamb shank and it was above average but not by much. maybe it was because of the couscous, but there wasn't enough sauce and the lamb became dry. I'd definitely go back someimte though to reorder the spreads, and try a different entree. Pros: good food, good service, nice decor Cons: parking more

Overrated, Overpriced Experience 7/3/2005

After hearing from many people how nice this place was when i walked in, the atmoshere looked lively i expected the food and value to be the same but unfortuntatelty that wasnt the case. I went there for a b-day party and the portions weren't even suitable for a 2 year old not only were the portions bad the price was way over priced for the despicable food that was served. The food wasnt even good at all due to the fact it was all sweet and fruity. After being laced for 1800 dollars for a party of 28 i would have to say this was my worst dining experience ever! This Place is a rip off.. im not lieing... Please think twice before thinking bout dining in this place Cons: everything the place, over priced, disgusting food more

Great Food, bad service, groups not welcome 6/17/2005

After reading such rave reviews, I decided to have my birthday party there. Unfortunately, I found out too late that, despite what their website says, the restaurant is NOT set up for large groups (I had 12 people). We were told we could only order 3 different entrees! After a week of intense negotiation, they finally agreed to 4 different entrees. Not exactly what I had intended - we were all looking forward to sampling the menu by ordering as many different entrees as we want. We went on a weekday, but the staff was still overwhelmed - it was at least one hour between each course - like they told me, the kitchen is not set up for large groups! When the food did come, it was perfect! So, go there for the great food, but with no more 3 other people. Pros: great food Cons: not set up for groups, bad service, expensive drinks more

a savory treat 4/13/2005

a very inventive approach to mediterranean flavors. this place is worth visiting even if just to try the cocktails--they are amazing (pomegarante mimosa? smashed kumquat and vodka?! how about a refreshing cucumber cocktail??) if you enjoy exotic flavors and want a new twist in your mediterranean dishes this is definitely a place to check out... Pros: inventive, amazing flavors, delicious more

Great service, great food 1/23/2005

We ate at Aziza last night, and all I can say is: Wow! My husband and I have lived in NYC, Los Angeles and now San Francisco. The dinner, service and overall experience were just superb. One of the best meals we've had in a restaurant in any city! Our server was Yates and he was professional, knowledgeable and kind. Try it...you won't be sorry. more

Aziza 1/16/2005

Aziza is a pleasure to dine in. The food has always been delicous and beautiful, the staff knowledgeable and receptive, and the atmosphere relaxed and romantic. The cucumber martini is delicious for a cocktail, and the lamb and fish dishes are excellent. If you are looking for a real treat, and have money to burn, go for the fixed menu, and make sure to save a lot of appetite, for there is going to be a lot of food! Pros: delicious food, ambiance more

now we're obsessed 11/11/2004

My friends and I went to Aziza for a birthday dinner and now we can't wait to go back. Every dish we tried was followed by ""Oh my god, this is soooo good!"" The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is relaxed, the drinks are delicious, and the decor is beautiful. The only reason Aziza doesn't get a perfect score from me is that we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated even though we had reservations (btw: totally worth the wait!) more

Refreshing and warm 7/29/2004

thanks for bringing this spot in the neighborhood, it feels exclusive and calm, sort of as if everything moves in just the perfect speed. Its a nice thing because most all other restaurant in the city do their best to rush you out. Love the decor and the food, both are different yet come together to really make the place feel complete. the food is amazing, the flavors just explode in your mouth. The deserts are very refreshing and tempting too. truly a great addition to san fran. love it. Pros: patient service staff, food flavor, lady's lounge more

Don't have your event here! 7/19/2004

My husband and I used to be regulars; we had every special dinner there and some in between. Then we had our wedding reception there and they lost our guest favors, lied about passing them out, then argued with us for two months about taking responsibility! We still haven't received an apology for the whole fiasco - the manager refused to give one to us. They also changed pricing on us when it came time to pay, which was a bit confusing. Pros: atmosphere, great chef Cons: , inconsistent service more

One word: EXCELLENT 6/13/2004

Aziza was more than I expected in every aspect - the food, ambiance, and staff was excellent. I had the Couscous Aziza and it was one of the tastiest dishes I've ever had in my life! The staff was very attentive and more than willing to educate you on Morrocan cuisine (if you never had it before). The setting was very romantic and beautiful. Highly recommended if you want to take a date! Pros: Ambiance, Service, Food more

Transported to a new realm 4/8/2004

I walked in with co-workers late on a Saturday night just to check things out after reading top 100. The atmosphere was amazing, the music, hypnotizing! I felt like I was transported to a far off place. We sat at the bar and had some spiced almonds and some kind of ginger flavored cocktail and if that's any indication of the delights to follow, I can't wait to actually sit down to eat there. (No, I haven't dined yet). Service at the bar was friendly, willing and accommodating. I did peruse the menu and was surprised to find it very affordable. I loved the look of the space and the feel of the staff, all soloists, dancing to a tightly choreographed routine, moving as one. Pros: seemed romantic, good vibe, quality menu more

Memorable Evening 2/29/2004

I my opinion, the best restaurant in San Francisco. I recently visited aziza for my fifth wedding anniversary. We had been there before celebrating the very same event. The server remembered us from our previous visit. We felt ""right at home"" in the restaurant. The food is fabulous, and the service is impeccable. Aziza is everything a fabulous restaurant should be. I highly recommend the experience. Pros: great food, friendly service, valet more

fantastic 2/28/2004

Aziza is the most phenomenal dining experience I have had in some time. My wife and our two friends dined there on a busy Friday, and with an exception to a rather cold and pushy hostess, the service was impeccible. Our waitress was both knowledgeable and friendly, and (as we were first time diners in Moroccan fare) helped us sort through the large menu and was even able to reccomend wine that was complimentry to each of our meals. Amazing, and definatley worth the drive to the Richmond district. Pros: food, service, wine list more

schreiber 2/18/2004

This was the third time I have been to Aziza. Unfortunately, we waited one hour and twenty minutes. Although they accomodated us with cocktails it was too long and when we were seated at a table too large for our party with a light that was glaring in our eyes it definitely was downhill. All the other tables seemed to have better lighting. The food was good (I burned my tongue badly on the appetizer) but the service slow and unattentive. Sorry but I won't be returning. Pros: fun belly dancing, generous portions, good value Cons: , slow service, worst table more

A Culinary Wonderland... 1/23/2004

I made the mistake of reading some of the negative reviews about Aziza before I'd gone. Big Mistake!! Went in a bit hesitant and to my delight, EVERYTHING about Aziza was fantastic. From the friendly service to the extraordinary tasting menu (Don't believe the lies.....you get LOTS of food!) to the wonderful belly dancers.......FABULOUS! My one and only complaint.......it does attract quite a number of L.A. transplant yuppies. Then again, they're everywhere. AAAHHHHH!!!! Definitely check it out! Pros: Wonderful food, Fun, Great 4 vegetarians Cons: Parking, Can be Loud, Yuppies more
