Chef Lahlou takes Moroccan food to ethereal levels using spices that delight the senses. Cocktails are a must with their muddled mash-ups.

Great Hospitality 11/26/2003

We showed up at Aziza famished after working a long hard day. We were first greeted with kindness, but unfortunately no table. The table that they had hoped to give us wasnt done yet. But they took care of us incredibly. We started with drinks, and then proceeded with several appetizers at the bar, all on the house as a token for our patience. Our hostess stopped by several times, letting us know how appreciative she was for our being there. The waiter and staff were attentive beyond any service that Ive had in other restaurants in similar situations. The food was incredible and beautifully presented. We truly enjoyed our evening at Aziza and will be back there very soon. Pros: service, food, valet more

Nice Evening 8/20/2003

I had a wonderful time at aziza. Everything seemed to flow nicely and everyone was so accomodating. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Valet Cons: Crowded more

A delightful experience 8/11/2003

Although a bit too crowded for my taste, the overall atmosphere was very pleasant. The food was delicious and the service was attentive and accommodating. The only thing that introduced a negative connotation to the overall experience was the belly-dancer who looked very uncomfortable dancing in front of the live crowd. Nevertheless, the evening was very much enjoyable and I highly recommend it. more

Fabulous! 5/2/2003

If this place were downtown, people would be putting on the ritz and doing anything to get in. As it is, there was quite a crowd of mostly jeans-clad but relatively sophisticated people waiting outside when i ventured upon this hole in the wall. My experience there was excellent. The decor was delicate yet unique and the service was flawless. The French-Moroccan pop music and intermittent belly-dancing shows generally enhanced the atmosphere. The star, however, was the food: it was some of the best I'd ever had. If I could do it over again, I'd just order all the appetizers just to get the greatest variety. The Mediterranian spreads were so fabulous that my boyfriend and I were fighting over the last piece of pita. Just when we thought we couldn't get more impressed, we did. I would recommend Aziza to anyone who truly appreciates food. Pros: FOOD, FOOD, FOOD more

finest moroccan-fusion 4/12/2003

A modern Moroccan decor enhances the convivial atmosphere at Aziza, a place to dine with friends or significant other. This restaurant is casual, friendly, and fun, while the food is sophisticated, contemporary and delicious. As a female patron, I must mention the beautiful women's bathroom. It's too bad you can't reserve a table in there. The essential oils, lotions and potions and wonderful reading materials make you feel like youre in the spa. Perfect dining atmosphere for any occasion. Pros: VALET, VALET, VALET, quick seating, woman's bathroom Cons: richmond dist, crowded bar more

Perfect Party Place 3/17/2003

Arriving for a late dinner with a large group, we found our private room ready with baloons and birthday hats. The seafood triangles changed my view on seafood. Our meal was beyond tasty, and service was professional yet fun and spunky. Our waiter and bartendress were fabulous and even went so far as to play our own cd. More money than I usually spend on a dinner, but well worth it for the amount of flavor I benefited from. Cheers! Pros: music, bellydancer, food Cons: kitchen a bit slow, too far from it all, a bit expensive more

30th Anniversary Party 3/8/2003

When I planned a suprise 30th Anniversary Party for my wife and invited a dozen friends, I luckily chose Aziza. They arranged everything and left me to enjoy the evening. The staff seamlessly moved us from the cocktail bar to our table where we were served multiple courses. The service and food were flawless. Everything about that night was perfect. Pros: romantic, delicious more

Sexy...Sassy...Sensational 2/24/2003

Aziza has an awesome vibe from the moment you walk in. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, great music, great dancing and much much more. Romantic & sexy all the way! that's how I celebrated my b'day with 11 of my closest family/friends. I always recommend this place to friends from out of town, they always thank me after they've gone. It's a great place to go with a large group of tight-knit friends, you'll have so much fun, keep the drinks comin' all night! Just as good of a night, if not better, if you're going with your honey. Lighting is low, vibe is sexy, food is delicious! Great impression for a first date! ...MANY THANKS!!... Pros: sexy, romantic more

PLEASED.... 2/20/2003

I visited San Francisco this past weekend and went to Aziza with a good friend of mine. Not knowing what to expect, I was happily pleased by my experience. The decor, the food, the service and the atmosphere were all phenomenal. If possible, request Sunata as she made the evening even better as she helped us choose exquisite wines to match our courses! Also -- drinks before dinner at the beautiful bar made the night complete! more

Amazing Time 2/19/2003

Overall, Aziza is one of the better restaurants I've been to in the city...in years! The three times I've gone, the service has been great.....from the hostess quickly seating us and being extremely attentitive to us throughout our meal, to our waiter being so helpful and delightful. The food was consistently great every time, and not to mention it was brought out to us in a perfectly timed manner. Overall, I cant think of any cons about Aziza and would recommend it to anyone. Pros: Service, Food more

sweet aziza 2/19/2003

We had a great time at Aziza. It was off the beaten path and outside the downtow district, which was nice. The decor was excellent, and the food was unbelievable. My recommendations are the med. spreads, basteella, and then the sea bass for the main course. This is a meal I had no problem paying $$$ for. The staff was also very attentive Pros: fun, great food Cons: loud more

HORRIBLE! 2/10/2003

This was our first and definitely our last trip to aziza. Our terrible experiene began by our encounter with the wild-haired hostess who was incredibly rude and did not seem to care that we had reservations and yet waited 40 minutes to be seated (we arrived early to make sure we got a table on time.) The problems did not end there! The service was no better than the hostess as everyone rushed by each time we attempted to order another drink. It took 30 minutes after placing our order for the appetizers to arrive and another 40 minutes or so before we got our entrees. The food was good, nothing to write home about. Overall, a potentially good evening was wasted at a terrible restaurant. This place needs a serious change in management if it expects to survive. Cons: Mad Management, Chaos more

Whisks me back to the Alhambra! 2/6/2003

I must say, I was a bit nervous about travelling all the way to the outer Richmond for dinner. But once we opened to door of Aziza, I was transported back to my days in Moorish Spain. The owner and his girlfriend (the hostess) have done an incredible job of putting together the interior decor. But what really evoked memories of trips abroad was the food! Excellent from start to finish. The special soup was a mint-infused carrot soup with blood oranges = divine! The flatbread appetizer with an assortment of spreads was delicious and our couscous entrees did not disappoint. Great wine list of Rieslings and Pinot Noirs. Best of all? The house-made marinated olives. We couldn't help but to keep asking for more!!! Excellent service. Fantastic ambiance. Pros: Ambience, Food, Full Bar Cons: Location more

we had a blast!!!! 2/5/2003

what a wonderful time i had with my friends at Aziza. The food was out of this world; service was great and attentive; and the ambience could not be better. This place is so exciting and different. I will never forget the evening we had there....I will definitely go back soon... Pros: great ambience, excellent food more

1/2Good 1/2Bad 2/3/2003

The evening had many ups and downs. Our waiter didn't even bring us napkins for our laps. We had to flag down another waiter for napkins and this was after our first course had arrived. The food was very good but the tasting menu is overpriced and you don't get to choose your appetizer. Eventhough the waiter had assured us that the chef would select an appetizer based on our entree choices we still felt shafted with what was brought to us (the cheapest appetizer on the menu). My husband had the seabass and I had the lamb shank. Both were very good. If my husband and I ever go back there again, it will be for the entrees only. Valet was also horrible. When we got in the car, the driver seat, the rear and side mirrors had all been adjusted. The staff leaves much to be desired. Pros: Nice atmosphere, Good entrees, prompt seating Cons: Service, Desserts, Valet more

Deceitful Service 2/1/2003

The food ranged from very so-so to very good, but the service was bad enough to completely spoil the experience. The waiter almost shamed the party into ordering the overpriced tasting menu, then lied about an appetizer taking 20-30 minutes to cook (why list it as an appetizer?) when he had simply forgotten to deliver the order to the kitchen. Finally, as we were yet finishing our meal, he took our valet tickets as a courtesy only to then tell us our cars were ""ready"" when in fact he had not even delivered the tickets to the valets, and it was twenty cold-on-the-sidewalk-but-at-least-out-of-the-restaurant-so-the-next-tools-could-be-seated-and-ripped-off minutes later that our cars were actually brought around. The valets were also very rude and disinterested for the most part. In New York we might have tolerated such service; perhaps Aziza should relocate. more

Good UNTIL the last drop 2/1/2003

the food was really good. we went for the SF Dine about Town, but only one of us chose to do the special. The one that chose to do the special had the more expensive entree, and the waiter knew that. The bill had white out on it, making the less expensive entree for the special. Talk about shady! The waiter could have at least mentioned that would happen. We woudn't have felt cheated in the end. Pros: good food, nice atmosphere more

Shake, shake, shake... 1/23/2003

Had dinner for the first time tonight at Aziza and wow! Very good food, sizable portions, good service and that belly-dancer! Started off the meal with a house special martini and the bastilla, a phyllo dough pastry with chicken, almonds and powdered sugar, yum! The main entree was a lavendar squab with stewed fruits and dessert was a lemon tart plate with sorbet and custard, very nice. The rooms are richly decorated and the service was prompt and personable. And the belly dancer was a lot of fun to watch! Enjoy the meal, enjoy the decor, you can't miss at Aziza! Pros: Unusual flavors, Friendly service, Belly-dancing! more

OH PLEASE!!!!! 1/16/2003

I went to Aziza for the first and last time last weekend with a large party celebrating a friend's birthday. The food was mediocre at best, wait staff rude and gave the ""I am too cool to wait on you"" vibe. The seating was cramped and uncomfortable, they seated 11 of us at 3 tiny round tables. And when the check came, I felt literally robbed! Don't waste an evening or your money! Cons: expensive, bad service more

Not worth it 1/16/2003

I went here with a group of friends and the food was decent, the decor was cool, but the drinks were overpriced and underliquored. The wait staff was not patient and treated us like children. If you intend to eat the rest of the week or buy gas for your car- do not eat here! The prices are way too expensive for a ""family style"" place and the food and strain on your pocketbook is not worth it. more
