Best

I don't think I have ever had a bad experience at Z'Tejas ever. In fact I love to eat there! These are some of my faves that you really just can't go wrong with... Pros: Fre...

Worst

On a Fri. night, restaurant was busy and bar was packed. Why do they own outdoor heat lamps, place them precisely on the patio, and then choose to not use them?? I felt more sor...

Wow, those mushroom enchiladas are fantastic! 8/8/2005

We were trying to go somewhere else, but it ended up being closed and wow were we surprised just how much i loved my food. The enchiladas were perfect. Any vegetarians would love this dish. I would highly reccomend this resturanct to anyone, and definatly plan on going back. Pros: Food, Service, Price more

Margarita Madness! 3/14/2005

Come here for the Southwestern-style Mexican--the wild mushroom enchiladas are the best--but plan on eating lots of carbs to help neutralize the intensely potent margaritas so you don't tumble down the wooden deck on your way out. They are delicious and amazingly easy to drink back-to-back! Both the main bar and the annexed bar are definitely buzzing, and it gets really crowded on weekend nights. Their reservation style's a little mystical, but they seem to take them for groups. more

Great food that exceeds expectations 1/9/2005

This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. It exceeded my expectations in many ways. The food is very artfully prepared. It is unbelievably inexpensive for what you get. I remember all main courses to be around $8-$14. The wait staff was very professional, but then again we weren't arrogant with them either. Having said that, this place is a victim of its own success. This place does get insanely crowded on the weekends. The wait can be immense. Luckily, there is a nice but crowded adjoining bar to drink while waiting for a table. I can see how others might be frustrated at waiting for so long, but your imminent ordeal should have been obvious to all but the most oblivious and inexperienced. Go somewhere else next time if you are unprepared for the obligatory wait and need to make unreasonable demands once reality sets in. Pros: really good food, great value, cool location Cons: , long wait sometimes more

TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! 8/30/2004

I don't think I've EVER had a worse dining experience. The service is AWFUL, and when I complained to the manager he actually ROLLED HIS EYES at me and said, ""Yeah, I'll look into it"". The best service we had all night was from the valet guys who parked our car. TOTALLY not worth it-unless you enjoy being treated horribly. Cons: , rude management, average food more

Decent food, poor service 6/19/2003

Twice in the last three months, I've experienced their arrogant lack of service. From a busy Friday eve happy hour to a lazy, post-lunch-rush meal, Z Tejas is riding their rep from a few years ago. They are rudely uncaring, from the lack of greeting or even prompt service, to an automated thrusting of the bill, with no warmth or even basic courtesy. Even if you get over yourselves, I won't be back. (P.S. did you hear there's a recession, and not as many people are spending as much money these days? Therefore, we are being choosier.) Pros: Imaginative menu Cons: Poor service, rewarmed (?) food, poor parking more

Disappointing 3/27/2003

My last few visits to Z Tejas on 6th Street have been very disappointing, everything from the service to the food. I've had one good waiter there in the past 6 months. On my last visit the food tasted like it had been sitting out and then mircrowaved and had no flavor. The waitress could have cared less when I complained. Our drinks were not re-filled for our entire visit. Pros: good local Cons: bad wait staff, parking more

Good enchilada 3/10/2003

Wild mushroom enchilada and artichoke stack were pretty good. But the service was very disappointing. Cons: Service more

Z Tejas dicriminates 12/27/2002

Z Tejas at this location is not good for college students. They do not treat you with respect or care to have your service. They should pay more attention to this since we do make up most of the city in this area. It is ridiculous that you can be 22 and still be treated like a child. I would take my business to Iron Cactus instead. Pros: nice area, somewhat quiet Cons: bad service, food is not that good, slow service more

I loved it! 12/2/2002

My husband I went here on a visit to Austin and absolutely loved it! The ambience was nice and casual and it will always be a night that I remember. Pros: Nice atmosphere, Fair price, Good food Cons: Wait more

rude management!!!!!!!!!!! 10/26/2002

If you are a college student do not expect to be treated like an adult at this restaurant. We were told that we had an hour and 15 minute wait, but we waited up to 2 hours. To compensate for the wait we were promised free appetizers and drinks (we repeatedly told them we had 13 people). We sat down and ordered appetizers and the incompetent manager told the waitress in front of us that, he knew what we were doing insinuating that we were going to take advantage of the free appetizers and drinks and leave. When we confronted the manager he told us that we were disrespecting him, and said that he could refuse service to us, then told us to leave. Before leaving we were responsible enough to pay for the meal and tip the waitress (without eating). Z Tejas needs new management and an attitude adjustment. more

Get Over Yourself Z Tejas 9/18/2002

We called 3 times to place a takeout order and were put on hold for over 5 minutes each time. We are loyal and frequent Z dinners but not after tonight. The host was rude on the phone and had the WORST attitude of any service professional. Get over yourself Z Tejas and lose the attitude or you'll lose all our business and our clients! Pros: Inexpensive, High Quality, Good bar for waiting Cons: Bad Attitude of staff more

Best this 'Okie' has had in Austin 8/8/2002

HAPPY HOUR is the best! Half Priced starters - - - The food and speciality drinks taste the best on the strip! Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking, Half Priced happy hr. more

Great meeting spot 6/21/2002

If you want an easy meal that tastes good, this is a good place. I like to meet friends or business associated here because you can talk over the meal. Sit outside if they're available. For dinner, plan on a wait. more
