Favorite Restaurant 6/8/2008

I love the food here. Everything is so delicious, from the most basic roll to pancakes, shrimp and rice, fried chicken. If it sounds simple, it is good. more

Never Going Back 5/29/2008

I had been to Watershed one other time and it was okay (service was slow) but I was willing to give it another try. I had some friends in town from LA and I was excited to take them to a southern restaurant so I thought Watershed would be a nice place to go. I lived to regret that decision...it was a Wednesday night when we went and it wasn't crowded yet the service was soooooo slow that it took nearly 20 minutes before we were able to put our order in. Then, it took over an hour to get our food and our waitress was nowhere to be seen when our drinks needed to be refilled. The rest of the waitstaff definitely wasn't looking out for anyone else because we couldn't get anyone's attention for at least 10 minutes. On top of it, the special dish of the night that our waitress recommended was full of peanuts which my friend had ordered and thank heavens, she wasn't allergic but you'd think that our waitress would've mentioned it when she was telling us about it. It was a huge disappointment and I will never go back and I will never recommend this place to anyone. I was truly embarassed to have taken my friends there. Pros: Food is decent, but wasn't worth the wait to get it Cons: Service is SLOW more

Can we order now - what? 4/26/2008

This place comes with so much hype. We came in for a romantic dinner which was a good thing - since we had to practically sit in one another's lap to make conversation. It was incredibly loud that even our waitress couldn't hear us when we tried to order - and really seemed irritated when we commented about the noise level. We just ended up having a drink and leaving.\r \r I don't know why restaurants interpret hip as being loud and sterile. I like enjoying conversation over dinner in a warm environment - I guess I'm just not cool enough to get it. Pros: I'm sorry, can you say that again? Cons: NOISY more

Disappointing 4/17/2008

I recently ate at Watershed - the food was OK - it certainly wasn't the best I have had, by far. The desserts were pretty awful to be truthful.\r The wine was great and the service was nice.\r Generally though it was way over priced and not that great and there are many many other great places to eat that I would chose over going back. Disappointing.\r . more

horrible service 1/31/2008

Our dinner group had a 7:00pm reservation for Tuesday fried chicken night. We had to chage our reservtion to 8:00pm because the could not accomodate 3 additional people in our party. We were seated on time but our waiter took his time making it to our table to take our orders. Appparently they ran out of chicken before 7:00pm that day (why would you promote Tuesday nights as fried chicken night and run out before 7??? ) It took an hour for our order to be placed and for our food to be brought to the table ( without ANY apologies from out waiter). We were starving and pretty cranky by this point. The food was ok at best. The two of us that had the salmon patties felt sick the next day. In a hour, the same waiter was hovering over our table trying to rush us out. Our dinner group will not be going back. Pros: fried chicken when they actually have it Cons: parking, service, everthing else on the menu more

washed out at the Watershed 1/11/2008

Both the Food Channel and the AJC highly recommended this restaurant. However, for me, the experience left much to be desired. We found the decor to be plain and the lighting was much too dark; two of our dinner guests could hardly read the menu. Our waiter was pleasant but was not much for giving us ""hints"" as to what we could expect of the appetizers and entrees (perhaps he was just an honest young man and didn?t want to lie). After all, as mother says, ""If you don?t have something good to say ...say nothing at all"". His knowledge of wine was poor. When we sent back a bottle of Merlot he suggested that it needed to be decanted. That was not the problem. \r We were all pleased with the appetizers which were tasty (fried chicken livers with mixed greens and saute of wild mushrooms with cheese and country ham on toast). But our entrees were surprisingly unremarkable and bland. The Beef Stroganoff was dry (yes dry) not creamy with sour cream and it was served at room temperature. The Country Captain (a single roasted chicken breast) was plain and the only thing that made it special was the accompaniment of a small portion of chutney. The chutney was the best part of the dish. My entree was the Low Country Shrimp. It was ordinary, hardly any spice at all.\r There was no special presentation of any sort to any of the dishes, including the desserts, which looked like a kid had cut a piece of cake and just set it on a plate before bringing it to our table. Finally, there didn?t seem to be any theme to the cuisine. I came looking for gold (silver at least) and left finding only nickel. more

Terrible food. No flavor 1/10/2008

I had the catfish (at least that's what the menu said) Instead they served me a tiny whole fish fried with very little meat on the bones. I was very disappointed and felt sick afterwords. Pros: in Decatur Cons: Food, Price more

Left feeling upset 11/28/2007

I have always loved the watershed but my last few visits have left me feeling very upset. A couple of weeks ago my wife sister mother and I were haveing a nice meal. The food and service was good as it always is and the night was going very well. Then my mother pointed out a kitchen worker standing behind the bar makeing himself a cocktail !! I didnt think much of it at the time and let it go. My next visit was very much the same we were haveing a nice meal when i looked up to see the same worker again pooring himself a cocktail!! I asked a server who the employee was and she told us he was the new sous chef. Im concerned about a chef who thinks its wise to be drinking while guests are in the building. I became very upset. My friends talked me down and we left without saying anything. I have been eating at watershed 4- 6 times a month for the last few years. I love the place i had my 39th birthday at watershed but this leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.. I cant say that i wont be returning but i can say that it will no longer be my first choice. we pay to much money to have people who are drinking mke our food . more

Yummy & Creative Food 8/27/2007

I went to Watershed for brunch w/ friends after a bachelorette party & the food was delicious. They quoted a 30-min wait on a Sunday morning, but it only ended up being 10 min. Our waiter was funny & attentive. I had the egg/grits/toast combo. I'm not usually a big egg eater, but they didn't have much for vegetarians on the menu, and I'm glad I tried them b/c they were really good. But the grits - wow! I almost didn't order them b/c I thought they would be the same old grits on every breakfast menu, but they were outstanding. I thought it was a little pricey ($45 for 3 ppl for breakfast), but it was worth it. The menu has a lot of Southern standards but they prepare them with a fresh, creative twist. I will definitely be back. Pros: Grits, Breads, Good Service Cons: Little Pricey more

Overrated 7/23/2007

My wife and I went to Watershed on a Friday night because we heard great things about it. We had reservations for 5:45, and very few people were there. The staff was great, our server was knowledgeable and friendly. The food however was subpar. I ordered the pork chop, medium, and it came out WAAAAAY overcooked. It was dry and tough. The mac and cheese was nothing special, and the salad was inedible because of too much vinegar in the dressing. The chocolate cake was good, not great, as so many of you have written. Overall, I think food is just ok, and is very much overrated. Don't expect too much from the Watershed. Pros: Service is great Cons: Food is not very good more

Good but not Great 7/18/2007

Recently tried this place and enjoyed the food but I can't say it was the best I've ever had. After hearing about the chef I really expected to be wowed. Also avoid the desserts. They are overpriced for what you get. I ordered the pound cake and it showed up at the table with no fruit or fresh whipped cream on the side. Charging $7.00 for a piece of plain pound cake is robbery. My friend also got the parfait and was disappointed. Service was good but when I complained about the dessert not being good my waiter didn't offer to take it off my bill.\r Pros: Location Cons: Prices/Bad Desserts more

YOU CALL THIS SOUTHERN FOOD?? 7/10/2007

Wow. After all the hype and press the Chef Peacock gets, I really thought the food would be better than this. I have been three times and I won't be going back. The only reason I went the third time is to have ""the best fried chicken in town"" because they are usually sold out. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the worst food in the world, but as a chef myself, I expected much more. I once had a pork chop there that was so overcooked, it was embarrassing. I've heard that they don't pay the line cooks very much and maybe that's the problem. Service was decent, but I could see how much better the service was to the regulars and I felt kind of slighted. The prices are okay, but for the quality, a little too high in my opinion. Southern food, whether traditional or with a twist, should represent fresh ingredients. I didn't get that out of my visits. You would think this guy was a Southern god the way people give him so much praise and press, I just don't get it. Pros: decent fried chicken Cons: below average Southern food more

beat southern food with organic flair 7/1/2007

No wonder Scott Peacock won the coveted Beards award BEST SOUTHERN CHEF in the US. The food is magnificent. FRom the fresh fish daily to the pork chops and the hummus made out of white beans this place can't be beat. Favorite is Tuesday fried chicken to the chocolate cake or chocolate macaroon cookies. The greatest selection of hard to find wines with new ones all the time. I have never had a bad meal Pros: great service epecially Gazeh Cons: parking can be tough but you can park accros the street more
