Best

Ribs, the salads, the cheeseburger, the sandwiches, the stew, the low fat menu choices, they are all great. There is so much meat on the ribs you can cut it off with a knife and ...

Worst

Some friends and I went to Vons for dinner after work one last week, and I was not impressed. A co-worker had told me how great she thought it was, but she must have been drunk on...

The best in town. 12/29/2007

I've been going to Von's since my parents started the tradition back when I was in college. During the last 17 years I've been dining at Von's at least once a month. I have never had a disappointing experience. The service is always friendly and prompt. The food is consistently flavorful and cooked to perfection. I tell all the people I come in contact with how great a place it is. My favorites include the clam chowder, signature salad, salmon and all of the BBQ dishes. Try Von's, you will be glad you did. Pros: Food and service more

Very pleasantly surprised 12/29/2007

My wife made me go to downtown Seattle which I was not too happy about. Luckily, after extensive shopping, we ended at Von's Grand City Cafe. The staff was there whenever we needed anything. The potstickers were excellent, I love the sauce. I had one of the best cheeseburgers off all time. Next time I'm stuck shopping I'll even suggest downtown Seattle so I can go to Von's again, both the food and the service were unbeatable. more

What a find! 12/12/2007

Our waitress was terrific and extremely informative with her beer advice. We found you quite by chance after a long, hard day of shopping. We had a super meal, especially with the kids. You pleased both the kids and adults and that's hard to do. I'm almost looking forward to shopping with the family again just so I can have a good meal and a good beer at Von's. Pros: great beers, food and kid friendly servers more

We love Von's 12/12/2007

Our server was not only fast but she took the time to explain the roasting process for the meats, the way they bring out the wonderful flavors of the food and even a history of the restaurant which was quite interesting. She really made us feel like part of the Von's family which she is obviously very proud to belong to. Not only are your roasted meats delicious but your servers are also a very valued park of your organization. You deserve the best. Thank you. more

Professional yet friendly 12/12/2007

We visited Von's twice. We were greeted at the door and seated right away both times, even though we were there after 10pm. The service was excellent and the food was great. We ordered a trio of roasted meats, caesar salads and clam chowder (which was much better than Ivar's for sure). The server was very professional but down to earth and friendly. The first visit we sat in the bar which was just as exemplary as the dining room. A must visit in downtown Seattle. We give it 2 thumbs up! more

Better food at Denny's 12/9/2007

My & husband went to Von's after a comedy show. The dining room wait was an half hour. So we went into the bar, which was crowded. We were able to find a table. When the server finally showed up after about 10 minutes, he asked us if we wanted anything from the bar and we said maybe later. From then on, he was not interested in us. He did come back after a while and took our order. That was the last time we saw him. Another servier brought us water and coffee. The coffee was luke warm each time that it was servied to me. When we got our meal, it looked ready to eat. That was not the case after we started eating it. My husband's food was dry and salty. My food was also dry, especially the cornbread that was underneath the barbeque chicken. It was like cake meal. The chicken was also dry. Unless we ordering drinks, we were pretty much ignored. Cons: bad food & service more

Unbeatable place for great food & drinks 11/26/2007

My daughter and I make the long trip to Seattle to go shopping every Friday after Thanksgiving, we also never miss hitting Von's. We have been doing this for 15 years and hopefully will be continuing for another 15 years (at least). We shop 'til we drop then go to Von's for a couple cocktails, appetizers and prime rib & cheddar dip sandwiches. We spend a couple hours visiting, catching up and winding down before the drive home. The staff is unbeatable, always upbeat and helpful. The food is to-die-for. Von's has become a very looked forward to family tradition. Thanks so much. Pros: unbeatable service & food for 15 years Cons: not a one more

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE! My first visit. 11/13/2007

We had a party of 8 and were in a bit of a hurry so I was a bit nervous that Von's would take too long since they were packed. The waitress was very warm, friendly and kind - She set the tone for the rest of the staff. The manager even took the time to stop at the tables and check on anything else we might possibly need. There was nothing we could possibly have needed because the waitress was very fast in addition to her wonderful personality. We also appreciated the great food. The ribs fell off the bones and the clam chowder was the best I've ever tasted. My husband said the salmon was to die for (but he wouldn't share a bite). Before leaving we made a reservations during the holiday season so we could take our family from out of town out for a great dinner. Thank you Von's, see you again soon. more

Great food! 11/8/2007

I loved the atmosphere and the service was great! more

Every payday I'm there. 10/21/2007

Von's is great for martinis & appetizers as well as a more upscale dinner with prime rib and a nice bottle of wine. My wife INSISTS we go to Von's when we want a fun night out. We even like to bring the kids with us for a nice dinner when we're in the downtown area. The service is ALWAYS friendly and fast, the food is always fantastic. We will always be proud to spread the word about Von's. Pros: Always a great experience. more

Awesome place! 10/10/2007

I absolutely LOVE Von's. I've been a loyal customer for over 15 years. They have wonderful roasted meats and a signature salad that's to die for! It's a great place to go for a nice, relaxing meal or if we feel like a little more action then the bar is fun and the excellent food is served there as well. I have to admit, my favorite drink is their $3.50 double martini all day long. My husband is more interested in all the microbrews they have on tap. I would recommend Von's Grand City Cafe to everyone, they have consistently had great food and friendly, fast service. more

convenient downtown location 10/2/2007

Always a pleasure. A good menu selection, good service. They seem to really care whether you're enjoying your meal. Pros: convenient location across from Pacific Place and parking Cons: can't think of any more

Not good. Not Even Close 1/5/2007

Vons has some of the Worst Food in this City. The atmosphere in the Restaurant is laughable, I Mean come on!! Tap handles on every wall in the place. Pros: drinks Cons: you name it more

Don't waste your time 11/20/2006

I had heard that this place was supposed to be one of the best for martinis, so my husband and I tried it...and were sorry we did. The inside has a less-than-clean feeling and the drinks (once we got the waitress' attention and then once she finally brought our drinks) were just average. At first, I thought the chilled, metal martini glasses that they served the martinis in were a great idea, but, for me anyway, every time I took a sip, it left a metallic taste in my mouth. We couldn't wait to leave -- but could not do so quickly as it took forever to get the bill. Pros: none immediately come to mind Cons: ambience, service, drinks more

Lame Happy Hour; Poor customer service 11/16/2006

Happy Hour involves one drink. That's right, ONE drink special. Its fate, determined by a wheel spun at the height of the hour. Happy Hour food? - not even an option! The service - I've been to this bar three times and each time I've found the wait staff to be incredibly rude. Don't waste your time. more

High price to pay for below-average food. 11/3/2006

First of all, this is the first time I've ever written a review on CitySearch. This place was so bad (all three times I've been here ) it was an inspiration for me to join. The first two times I came here I was with a large group-- and they severely restricted our menu to three bland choices (e.g. 3 items). I thought I would try it again to see if their full menu and small-table service was any better. Nope! This place is too expensive considering the portion sizes and the quality of the food. I ordered an Asian Ginger Sesame BBQ Pork salad, purportedly cooked with Von's ""special"" Asian BBQ sauce. There was no BBQ about it... the pork was that dry, cold, red-and-grey pork you get as an appetizer and American-Chinese restaurants. Which is fine-- but not anything special. Huge disappointment for $16. The sesame-ginger dressing was nothing to gawk about. One benefit of my salad meal over my friends BBQ Chicken: it wasn't tiny. But I think we both still left hungry. The wait staff was nonchalant, borderline rude. The host was the only person welcoming us, but we were forced to wait in the very small front entry-way by a gia-normous bunch of heat lamps for our table... uncomfortable. It's not normally something you see in a review, but the bathroom was in disrepair-- the toilet seat and the hook on the back of the door both fell off while I was in there. If you want American-fare, try walking around the block-- there are many other places with GREAT food for the same price downtown. I'm guessing you could get this food for half the price at some ma-and-pa joint: it would taste better and you'd get it with a smile. Pros: Ice Cream, Not having to come here again Cons: Small Entry, Bland mis-advertised food, Loud more

good food and martinis, not service 2/21/2006

I go there often. Usually with my girlfriend. Usually before or after a movie. We always have martinis and salmon spread in the bar. Both are von-sistently good :-). To avoid waiting, we just order everything at once and ask for a check. This way we are not waiting for a wait person... Pros: martini, salmon spread, beer Cons: service more

mmm. prime rib 12/8/2005

it ain't the best i've ever had but it's not bad for the price...good sized portion. the all-clam clam chowda was a hit too. i've been here several times and it's always been ok. i've always stuck with the same couple items, tho. Pros: kick *ss prime rib, pretty good chowda Cons: noisy, crowded more

Slow, rude, (barely) adequate food 11/23/2005

The service was painfully slow and the food, when it came, was cold and bland. The wait staff was really quite rude, and I was sharing shocked glances with a number of the other folks in the restaraunt. Although the pepper pot soup was pretty good my meal pretty much sucked. There's better and cheaper within a one block radius so I'll never go back there. Pros: lots of beers Cons: slow staff, rude staff more

Avoid this place 8/7/2005

I got there at 8:50 PM and the place was less than a quarter full. Waited at the podium for about 5 minutes while the employees chated with each other. Finally seated myself in the bar. Waited another 10 minutes to get a menu. I ordered the ""Angus beef London Broil"". It was so tough and stringy that I had trouble cutting it with a steak knife! This is the first time in a long time that I had to spit out pieces of meat that were too tough to chew. I finally paid and left with more than half of the steak untouched. Avoid this place. Pros: None, None, None Cons: Poor service, Poor food quality, Poor atmosphere more
