AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! My first visit to Van Michael NTS started with an old work picture. The pic was taken 5 years ago when I had super-short hair, terrible color, and an extra 70 pounds. After losing the weight, and growing my hair out long, I was well overdue for a new pic. I wanted a new look from the best of the best…I went to see Harry Wood.\r I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the entire experience! I’ve never been so thrilled with a cut and style! Not only is Harry amazingly talented, he and his awesome assistant London, took the time to TEACH ME how to get the look at home. I was educated on products, styling tools and techniques. Harry even emailed me a bunch of technique videos from his ipad to help me achieve the look on my own. \r Next, I saw Chanel for makeup to complete the look. Again, I was OVERJOYED with the results. She also taught me technique as she worked her MAGIC on my face. \r Needless to say, I got the celebrity treatment. I walked out of the salon feeling red-carpet ready if only just for a new work photo! I truly felt amazing. Harry's been cutting my hair now for almost 14 years. It's interesting how you get to know someone who you see for about an hour on a quarterly basis. Quick math - 56 hrs over 14 yrs which is essentially one 40 hr work week w/ overtime. Doesn't really seem like a lot of time but I think I know him better than people that I've worked with on a daily basis over the same 14 years. First, it goes without saying, the man can cut a mean ""do"" and second, he's going to give you the best of everything in his professional arsenal which includes excellent recommendations for colorists (Armond is the bomb!) and subject matter expertise on everything from products to blow drying techniques. But what I think truly differentiates him from so many, is that he's willing to share his professional knowledge not only with his clients but with his peers & his assistants. It's one thing to be highly proficient in your job but it's quite another to simultaneously take the time to develop, invest in & bring out the best in others. I was having a bad day on my last visit. I was interviewing for a new job & I was beyond frustrated. Harry's assistant Sal (whom I was meeting for the first time) could see that I was under stress; he was kind, caring and empathetic. Let's face it, your stylist & his team can become so much more to you over time and sometimes we don't even realize it. Confidence building was underway. I had another appointment today. As is the norm, Harry gave me a terrific cut. I'm more than ready for the next job interview however, I must say Sal laid the groundwork at the last appointment. It will be very hard to leave this winning combo if the job offer requires a relo! more

I have been going to Van Michael salons since 1997 and have never had a bad haircut or color experience. The BEST, however, is Lauren for color. She is excellent at what she does. I have been seeing her for a couple of years, and she is always striving to improve her technique and skills. I find it hard to believe, but my hair is prettier and prettier each time I go to see her. I often have people stop me in public to ask me who does my hair color - I get compliments all the time - all thanks to Lauren!! more

I'll admit that I was slightly worried when Harry moved from Sandy Springs to Buckhead, but after 14 years in this relationship, a new location was not going to get in my way!! \r \r As it turns out, Buckhead is just as welcoming as Sandy Springs, and with better shampoo chairs! (They help you get horizontal, to minimize stress on your neck- plus they massage!) Another plus- VM Buckhead is located in the same center as Whole Foods, for a one stop shopping day. \r \r Back to the important stuff- Harry Wood is an amazing stylist, as evidenced by my loyalty for the past 14 years. His cuts are never short of spectacular, and his attention to detail is obvious. I tell my kids he has magic scissors, and they believe it. He makes me feel beautiful every time I'm there. If only my hair grew faster... He has an IPAD with lots of different styles at the ready, in case you are undecided. Ask, and you shall receive. He is simply the best. \r \r I also love that VM is an Aveda salon, which means the product is environmentally friendly and also kind to your hair. more

I have been going to Harry Wood for the past six months.I absolutely think he is the best stylist I have ever been to.I have very fine ,straight hair and all of my friends and family claim my hair looks the best it has ever looked.I love Harry he makes you feel that you are his only client .A great haircut makes you feel good about yourself and that is life changing. I'm sure Brandon needs no introduction, nor does he need anymore reviews on this site as he is quite well known and a BRILLIANT stylist. He has over 20 years in the field and is also an artistic director so he travels the country training other Aveda salons, including Planet Salon in Beverly Hills. I have wavy red hair and have learned many a painful hair lessons throughout my 31 years on earth. The botch job I received before going to Brandon was my very, very last lesson in thrifty hairdressing. I will never again put myself through excruciating days of guilt, remorse, and putting life on hold while I hide out due to a bad haircut.... there's just something about a wrecked hairstyle that can break your whole spirit. Its too much of a risk, seeing as how we are all, well... expected to function in this world with a certain level of confidence :-) Brandon's work was pure perfection. He laid down the reality of the situation, I stopped hanging onto false hope of saving the length, and we stepped confidently through acceptance and onto glorious hair redemption together! I also want to give a mad shout out to his wonderful assistant/apprentice! She was the kindest, sweetest, most endearing person I've met in a while! I profess to be somewhat ""enlightened"" as I'm studying to be an spiritual teacher/inspirational speaker, but let me just get real here: there is no rising above a bad haircut sometimes. LOL. No matter how enlightened you are. I was having a hard time with the fact that the previous stylist had mutilated aura -really clinging to woe - and Brandon's assistant humbly stood in her power to listen with compassion and relate on my terms with me. She was a great contrast to my ""acting out"" that day and I totally appreciated her presence and grace! I really needed that. Thank you soooo much and I am sooo sorry I forgot your name!!!! Go here if you are new in town. Do not bother ""sampling"" or playing around with trying to save money. Hair is just kind of important and that is not a shallow thing - its part of who we are. Be grateful you have hair, then honor yourself by treating it well. more

I am one of those people who gets bored very 5 minutes of my hair color. So, a good colorist is definitely a must have. Went to Van Michael because I heard about their reputable service and found Khia -- what a gem! She always knows just what to do to get the results that I want. I go from light, to dark, back to light again, and haven't had any problem -- my hair is never dry, I never get split ends (even though I wash and blow dry it and spray it up every day), and my color always looks great. When it's dark it is rich and shiny, and when I have highlights they always look natural and catch the light just right. I trust Khia so much that I don't even ask to see the proposed color in advance -- I know it will look great. The mark of a good colorist is that you receive lots of compliments. Every time I step out of the salon, I hear raving reviews. Plus, I always have fun, am out of there within an hour, and enjoy our chats. So, if you are in need of a great colorist who really knows what she's doing, I recommend Khia 100%. Definitely book it. more

I just moved back to Atlanta and was nervous about finding a new hair stylist. Thankfully I found Nilan at Van Michael New Talents and she is AWESOME! She knows exactly how to blend a current hairstyle with what looks good on me. She also gave me a mini lesson on how to style my new cut at home, and I was finally able to re-create the salon look on my own! \r \r For highlights, I have been seeing Tracy (also a new talent). I have been going to Van Michaels on and off for 20 years. I have been going to Harry since he began at Van Michaels and I have been nothing but stoked every time I go. I happened to have on a pair on new over the knee boots and I asked Harry to match my haircut to my boots and wow. I have sassy hair and I love it. Harry is friendly, fun and so knowledgeable. Van Michael's is the best place and Harry is the best. more

Unfortunately, I went to Van Micheals at 39 West Paces Ferry Road Northwest, Atlanta, GA 30305, to get a spiral perm with KHIA MCLENDON and I ended up paying a total of $404.92 to experience a dungeon like environment with a production line mentallity from it's so called hair artisians. My so called artisian didn't even try to listen to my requests or needs. For example, I ended having a half of my hair completely straight and after talking to the manager I was told that KHIA did not feel like helping me because she is one of the top ones and she knew what she was doing. So, save your time and money on this one more

I have been getting my hair cut by Elmira for over 2 years and no one has cut my hair this perfect before..I have a very heavy full hair that use to be a pain to style but she has given me such amazing and perfect layers that even if I don't style my hair(time limit) and just leave some products in it, it looks amazing! I've been patronizing Van Michael Salon for many years now and I've had many stylists style my hair and I have finally found my my niche with Nilan. i have never been as happy with a hairstyle like i have been with her touch. She has been the only person to touch my hair in over two years and I plan to keep it that way. Not only that, she is easy to talk to and she always offers me tips on how to get the salon look at home, between salon visits. She always lets me know when there is a sale, promotion or an event going on with the salon, being that I love Aveda products so much, and most of all, I feel like I have gained a true friend and I trust her advice and opinion on hair, relationships, and pretty much life in general. So next time you go to Van Michael Salon, be sure to request Nilan. She is in New Talents now, but she won't be for long. David is by far the best colorist I've ever had. My hair is perfect every time and when I say every time I mean it. You can't get any better than this. Pros: Best color you will ever receive more

I had the pleasure of seeing Elmira today for the first time... She was not only beautiful but the nicest stylist I have ever seen.. My hair cut is not easy to do and she nailed it.. My hair is NEVER looked better.. I live in NYC and Come to Atlanta for work.. I will never see anyone else again. I am so lucky to have met her.. She cuts better than most my my $$$$$$$ NYC stylist.. Nilan listened to everything that I told her about how I wanted my hair to look. She gave me suggestions throughout the haircut on how to make my hair look salon pretty at home. She explained in detail throughout the cut exactly what she was doing and made sure that that was what I wanted. The finishing look was perfect to my request. She has probably cut my hair 10 times in 2 years. I have complete trust to sit down and let her go at it. Nilan listened to my concerns about my current style and worked with my style to give me an awesome cut that got rave reviews from my friends! She is knowledgeable and thorough in explaining how to care for your hair and recreate the look at home. I was so grateful to sport a cut that reflected my style! Lafe is an amazing colorist who listened to what I wanted, showed me some photos of what I was looking for, and then gave me the perfect blonde! I am now a devotee! I was visiting a friend in Atlanta two weeks ago, and she suggested I get an haircut since we were going out that night (and I had just started growing my hair longer again). I am not the type of guy who typically likes to spend money or time on my appearance, but that is mainly because I am never quite sure if a particular haircut really works for me . When I sat down with Nilan, my whole approach toward getting an haircut changed. She spent a good deal of time pointing out specific features that could be either enhanced or minimalized, and explained how all these adjustments would culminate in an actual style. It was the first time I really ever felt confident in a stylist's opinion of how I could look BETTER. Even my girlfriend said it was the first time she had ever seen me with a ""good haircut,"" as opposed to the typical short haircuts I had always preferred. She really was terrific...
