I was having some gear changing problems in my Nissan and the dealer could not figure out the problem. These people were recommended to me by my friend and when i brought the car ...

University Foreign Car has worked on my 1994 Honda Civic three times in recent years, and I have been VERY impressed with their service until now. This week I had the exhaust sys...

CAUTION! Check out the better business bureau says about 5/11/2010

we received terrible work. car worse than before we brought it in. and then if you want them to fix they will avoid you or be rude and hostile. caution. check out their better business bureau rating. Cons: we experienced terrible service all around more

These mechanics mean business! 4/14/2010

Like I said in the pro, these mechanics are very helpful. I have gotten oil changes at UFC for a number of years. If they have me in for an oil change or for a brake job they always let me know if they see something that needs repair. A lot of other shops will just not tell you, figuring that when whatever else breaks then you will be back. If you want a full inspection it costs some money, but their advance warnings during normal service have saved me from what could have been major problems! Pros: if they find issues when doing a job they will let you know Cons: they can get really busy sometimes more

Honest mechanics in lansing! 4/13/2010

As a woman I have experienced many unfriendly mechanics trying to keep my car in good working order. The mechanics at University Foreign Car have always treated me with respect. I don't know much about the mechanical parts in a car, but these mechanics always give me an explanation I can understand, letting me know what is causing my car trouble and what I need to get back on the road. Pros: polite and respectful more

Good Mechanics 4/8/2010

I had an oil leak on my volkswagen jetta for a week or so and took it into Tuffy who fixed it up really cheap, it was less than $50! But then two days later I noticed it was leaking again!! \r \r I took it to university foreign car then, they seemed like a more personal shop than a cookie cutter Tuffy. I got to talk right to the mechanic who they said was a volkswagen expert. He said that this type of oil leak was a common problem at that many miles and he had worked on them before. That was two weeks ago and the problem has not reoccured! It was more expensive but not outrageous and since it fixed my oil leak properly I recommend them. The mechanic and the service person seemed honest and wanting to help. Pros: knowledgable mechanics, good inventory & parts availability Cons: not the cheapest prices but made up for by quality more

A good place for repairs and maintenance 4/1/2010

I like this shop, they are very friendly people. I dont know alot about cars, but i know to change your oil and filters, some other things like spark plugs need to be done every once in a while. I have taken my cars here (civic and corolla) for a while to do this regular maintenance stuff and they do a good job. Also I have had an oil leak they repaired. They do a good job for me, and it seems others since I have seen all sorts of people in there, old people, young people, people that have old cars to keep up, and people that have new cars. more

Friendly car repairs! 4/1/2010

I have been taking my subaru outback to University for maybe a year now, they have a very good repair shop! I used to go to another shop, so I would compare prices with the old shop at first. University would usually come out around the price of another shop, sometimes on big jobs they would be some small amount over, like 50 bucks or something more. This is more than made up for by the quality of service though, they fix my problems every time and Eric in the front office is very polite and positive. Sometimes they do get really busy, but I guess when you compare their friendly local car service shop to a canned national chain it makes sense why. Pros: positive, friendly attitude Cons: sometimes they are really busy more

Honest, friendly service and good lasting repairs. 3/26/2010

I have been taking my car to UFC for repairs for at least 10 years or so now, ever since I bought a new Honda Civic in 1998. They have always given me friendly and honest service. Having purchased a new car there was not a lot of service at first, but I got my oil changed there based on a friends recommendation - he is an old volkswagen aficionado and gets some hard to find parts from them. \r \r Whenever I would reach those 'landmark' mileages (60k, 90k, etc) they always let me know what parts I should replace. If you don't know there are things like a timing belt that can be easily replaced for a day in the shop and few hundred bucks, but if they aren't replaced and the timing belt breaks you are in a financial nightmare! It breaks a number of other parts and makes a few hundred dollar replacement into a thousand dollar or more repair (an experience I had with an old Taurus many years ago, and have managed to avoid since). The fact that they helped with the reminders on when parts more

Good repair facility, excellent source of aftermarket parts! 3/26/2010

This is a auto service/repair facility in the Allen Street Neighborhood, right off 496 near Frandor. I am a car nerd, so I often do my own repairs and such, but every once in a while you dont have time for a big job, or it would just be that much easier in a large shop with a hoist. For all those types of situations I take my car in to UFC. I also like to recommend UFC to friends when I cant work their repairs into my work schedule. Also their parts department ('Chequered Flag' for all you Brits!) is really on the ball. They are my primary supplier for aftermarket parts and often manage to come up with some odd parts that I would otherwise be buying off some unheard of website run from somewhere in Europe. I have been working with UFC for some years now, and have become acquainted with Mr. Mayes, the owner, during my visits. He is almost always at the shop - the true sign of a good owner in my opinion, not one of those guys that owns a oil change joint that you never see. And the parts manager Ross is hilarious, he sure knows his parts. If you are wondering whether to give them a shot, I recommend them highly! Pros: high quality low cost parts, fair price for quality repairs Cons: small waiting area (they are accomodating though!) more

good work, fair price 3/10/2010

i took my 2008 Mercedez Benz E-Class 350 in recently (March 2010), and these guys saved me a bundle vs. what i would have spent at the dealership. i would absolutely recommend them. Pros: stepped approach, smart workers more

Positive Experience 3/2/2010

I had a great experience at University Foreign Car Repair. I will definitely go back again. Pros: Great overall experience more

negligent service 7/20/2009

Charged $85 for a oil leak checkup, other stores only ask for $45. Dropped the car in the morning, and was told the exam would be done in the afternoon. Called at 4:30 pm, and they said they would call me right back. An hour later when I called the store was already closed. Looks like they already forgot about me! I have to scramble for a ride home. Cons: don't care and we always have customes attitude more

Best Place Ever! 4/8/2009

I have done business here with Blair and the crew for four years now.... wow! Very professional, exceptional service! They really know what they are talking about.... I was extremly impressed with their kindess, support and hard work. more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS 1/15/2009

Can I give negative stars? They sold us a car, lying the whole time. They said they had been through it front to back, FIXING ALL POTENTIAL ISSUES, and based on this (and the fact that they assured us the 'new' refurbished engine they replaced was in great shape and an amazing deal... that it was under warranty and 'they stand behind their product'), I paid very close to the top end of blue-book, around $6500.\r \r The reality? Less than a year later, major engine trouble was diagnosed, costing several thousand dollars in repairs. Their response to the earlier assurances? 'Oh that guy wasn't that honest, he's not with us anymore cause he used to exaggerate all the time. There's no warranty.' Even the owner had stood right next to us while his employee told bald faced lies that cost us $10,000 for what should have been a $2500 car. I would have been talking to a lawyer if I didn't have to move out of state for work literally the next day. $4000 in repairs later, we're looking at having more

Honesty? No. Integrity? Hah. 1/15/2009

Obviously you are talking about a different UFCR. This was my experience with them. \r \r They sold us a car, lying the whole time. I would have been talking to a lawyer if I didn't have to move out of state for work literally the next day. $4000 in repairs later, we're looking at having to unload it for next to nothing. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THEIR CARS OR BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY. Pros: Initially make you feel very comfortable and excited for the investment. Cons: Getting horribly, horribly ripped off. more

No complants here! 8/27/2008

Recently my 2001 VW Jetta GLS w/ 110k on her had the Check Eng Light come on and started to run really really rough. I took the car into U.F.C.R. and let them work their magic on the car. My daughter and I needed a ride back to Mason, we didn't even have to ask, they got us home and we waited for the solution to the problem. We got the estimate for the repairs that the car needed, granted I bought the car used and she has over 110K miles on her...so the list was long, extensive, and very expensive, I kind of figured it would be, the service manager knowing that life here in Mid Michigan is economically tight, suggested that we take one thing at a time and he could get me back on the road for $75!!!! As we get extra money and after the hit we're going to have to take from buying school clothes for 2 HS aged and 2 MS aged kids along with Fall sports, and we can get back in there, one by one we will be getting the Jetta brought back up to par. With their honesty, and their understanding o more

Finally customer service and honesty! 8/26/2008

I had my Ck Eng Light come on in my 2001 VW Jetta GLS 1.8t, she has over 110k miles on her, she started running really rough, so I pulled into University Foreign Car Repair, told them what was happening with the ""C.E.L."" and her running rough, they asked if I could leave it for them to go over, no problem, they even gave my daughter and I a ride back to Mason ( I didn't even have to ask).\r \r While waiting on the results of the inspection, I went on-line and started to scare myself with what ""could be wrong"", OUCH this is going to hurt the wallet kind of thing. Got the call back from UFCR and got the bad news...found out that there was a laundry list of routine things that have been neglected on the car but, some if not fixed could have serious expensive ramifications if I don't get them fixed soon. ( Bought the car used) \r \r I told the service manager my situation and he suggested that the best way to go about this would be to fix ""X"" 1st, then knock things off the list as soon as I could afford to to more. He was able to get my car running safely and effectively (the gas mileage got better, and in a Jetta, I didn't think that was possible) UFCR has earned a customer for life and a person that will sing their praise forever! \r \r OBTW, they got me back on the road for less than $75 and that was with a complete system check of Engine, Trans, Turbo, Suspension and Brakes along with fixing the immediate problem. Pros: They will tell you like it is and they are honest, you get what you pay for Cons: You're not fixing a Chevy...so expect to pay more for repairs more

Great Business 5/7/2008

I have had my Honda Civic, my husbands Honda Accord and my daughters VW Jetta worked on here. They are always very helpful with advise and have fixed many problems that the dealerships either ignored or did a bandaid. The cost is always lower than the dealership and the work is always high quality. They may not be the cheapest place in town, but you get what you pay for!!! more

Trusted service with a smile 4/29/2008

I have been taking my cars to University Foreign Car for 20 years. As a woman I am always treated with respect and each service is explained to me fully. The guys let me know when I need to start thinking about a timing belt that will need changing so I can work it into my budget. Or what difference using synthetic oil verse normal oil is and will it extend the life of my car. I'm so grateful that I found Blair and Eric and the guys and will continue letting them take care of my car and educating me so I can continue making good decisions on choosing cars and maintaining them. more

Avoid This Place! 2/7/2008

We got an estimate for a repair here and decided not to have the work done due to the expense. Recently we took it to another repair shop and asked how much the same repair would be. The cost was $1000 less! When we went to have the work done, the other place discovered it was a different- and far more inexpensive- problem. Had we had the work done at University, we would be out $2500 for a repair that would not have fixed the problem. This is the sort of place that gives auto mechanics a bad reputation. more

Still doing good work 1/16/2008

Friday 3.12.10\r \r My cars have been repaired to my satisfaction, repeatedly.\r \r When a repair was not essential they did not recommend it.\r \r Always willing to take a quick look at a possible problem.\r \r And so on\r \r J Pros: polite, competent more
