Tasty tapas 9/23/2008

I love Twist. I always have an enjoyable experience here. This past weekend I went with 5 friends and we each ordered 2 tapas -- they were all tasty and flavorful. Some of my favorites are the dates, lobster ravioli, mac and cheese (YUM!), the goat cheese, jalapeno gnocchi, and the olives (I'm a big olive fan). The only reason I'm not giving Twist a full five starts is because I don't think their sangria is anything to write home about, and it seemed overpriced compared to other tapas restaurants I've been to. I also want to mention the restaurant is small and they don't take reservations, however they will take your phone number if you want to wander over to Redmonds for a drink while you wait. We were told our wait would be 30-45 minutes on a Saturday night (after a Cubs day game), but they called within 15 minutes. Even if the wait is longer, it's well worth it, in my opinion. Pros: Wonderful food for sharing, fast service, friendly wait staff Cons: Small interior, can be loud, tables are close to each other, I don't recommend the sangria more

Nice to have GOOD Tapas in Wriglyville 1/14/2008

""A friend + I made this a destination spot for a Mon. night dinner. The atmosphere was cozy + had an interesting section where u could sit + view the street. The staff was friendly, though could have been slightly more attentive. Our beverages were not refilled as often as we would have liked. The food was good but the escargot + faun stole the show - extremely tasty. This a cafe version of a larger restaurant like Cafe Ba-ba-reeba. I can't wait to go back."" Pros: Tasty, Well Priced, Nice Location Cons: Tight fit/ ""cozy"" more

Absolutely delicious 4/15/2007

This is by far the best tapas in Chicago. I recommend the tilapia and bacon wrapped dates, but you won't be disappointed with anything on the menu. The staff is friendly and will always offer suggestions. The resturant is small and you'll probably wait, but it's well worth it. Pros: friendly staff, cozy, more

Tapas are great.. 11/14/2006

Great selection of tapas and price. Atmosphere is nice...place is small. Window seating is great to watch crowd walking by. more

Super busy, crowded but EXCELLENT tapas 8/18/2006

I've never gone wrong with anything on the menu (unlike most tapas joints where the dishes can h i t or miss.) The service is never poor, but they can rarely keep up with the crowds in this tiny bowling-alley shaped space. Best advice is to sit outside, which doesn't have much of a patio, but at least frees you from claustrophobia while you enjoy the delicious food. more

Horrible experience 6/8/2006

We went there for a girls night out and had a terrible experience! The food was way overdone, the waitstaff were incredibly rude and the tables are so close together it was like we were sitting at the same table with people next to us. I would never go there again. Pros: Good Sangria Cons: Rude waitstaff, Overdone Food more

Great food, horrible owner!! 5/29/2006

I had been several times to this restaurant and loved it! The food is great. There are decent options for vegetarians. The desserts aren't so hot, but the goat cheese is amazing. YET!! THE LAST TIME I WENT WAS HORRIBLE!! It was a Thursday and they decided to close early. They called last call, so we ordered a pitcher of Sangria. As soon as we got it, the owner started harrassing us. She told us we had to go right after we got the drink. She was so rude I couldn't believed she owned the place. I will never, ever go back. Cons: BAD OWNER, RUDE more

can't top those tapas ! 6/10/2005

crowded yes, had to wait yes, worth it yes. there are many cheap imatations in lakeview now don't be fooled or should I say don't waste your money. Pros: best in town, great portions, fun staff Cons: cubs fans, cubs parking more

Tapalicious 9/21/2003

This place is fun if you sit outside. We went to the little theatre next door after the show, had a bottle of wine and sat and people watched for a while. The food is phenomenal, though they might bring all of it out too quickly. Twist is one of my favorite memories of Chicago, maybe it was the company, or the gnocchi, or the Rioja. I'm not sure. It was fun, hip and a nice night. Being foodies from New Orleans, we enjoyed ourselves! more

Tapas and Friends 12/22/2002

Went with a couple of friends and enjoyed the variety of tapas. Some authentic and some original. Interseting atmosphere but a little crowded. more

Go for the food 10/26/2002

Went with two friends. Seating is very tight, and we waited almost an hour (they don't take reservations). The service is adequate. The ambiance is very lively, however, and the food is great! Try the portabello stuffed with crabmeat and the glazed banana with ice cream dessert. Didn't like the sangria at all-- the wine tasted funny and gave me a headache for the rest of the night. more

1 of the better tapas places in Chicago 9/4/2002

I really enjoy tapas and have been to most of the tapas restaurants in the area (and the suburbs) and this is one of my favorites. Best to go early, with a small group (ie, just two) or during the week. You can always sit at the counter if seating is tight, too, but it's warm up there. Yummy sangria! Pros: great food Cons: small, limited parking more

Delicious! But a little crowded... 7/28/2002

I've always enjoyed eating here, and make a point of getting there early otherwise I suffer waiting for an 1-1.5 hours! It gets crazy packed on the weekends starting at 7:30 PM, and the noise level can get rather unbearable and you'll find yourself screaming to your tablemates during conversation. The place is small but charming. The food is excellent -- everyone I've brought here has enjoyed it famously! My favorites: tortilla spanola (a little too much onion), grilled calamari, shrimp in spicy aioli, crabcakes, and lubina (tilapia), and for dessert, the caramelized bananas with pistachio nuts and ice cream (however, Cafe Ba-ba-reeba makes this dessert better, IMHO). Sangria is a little expensive, yet still yummy and thirst-quenching. Twist is definitely a great addition to the Wrigleyville area! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! (FYI: They do not take reservations, so go early!). Pros: Great food, Inexpensive, Fun for groups Cons: Crowded, Very loud, Potential long waits more
