Best

We ordered the curry wontons, Laab salad and Massaman Curry with beef. The food came hot and while the curry wontons were good, the Laab and Massaman curry were out of this world....

Worst

Food was just so-so. Delivery was slow.

Some of the best thai food we have ever had! Will definitely order from again. The Laab is not for the faint of spicy. more

Best Thai in the city. Favorites: Coconut Curry, Red Curry, Choo Chee Curry. All are in the red curry family and they are AMAZING. I prefer take-out. more

I had a really bad experience here, 6/8/2012

I had a really bad experience here, very poor customer service from the older bearded man at the front. I want to like this place because it's by my work but I won't be returning. more

Such yummy food! 9/1/2011

GREAT food! If you are walking by it is very hard to resist the smell. Yes, sometimes the staff can be a little rude, but I think it's worth it for such good food. KEEP IN MIND- these poor people have had a LOT of hardships lately! The chef just died in a horrible accident right near the restaurant. A little while ago, one of the ladies was attacked down the street from the restaurant and was robbed of all the restaurants money. There are some other things I have heard about it, but I won't say them on here. Maybe just give them a little leeway on their rudeness and just enjoy the great food that they make! PS: They aren't that great about re-filling your water. I suggest asking for a pitcher at the beginning of your meal if you are an avid water drinker. more

You will have to pay if they cook it! 7/22/2011

My daughter and I just left True Thai moments ago. It's a very hot summer day and we decided to get some fresh spring rolls and egg rolls. We ordered them and decided- though it's more that we would normally eat- let's try a new dish. The rolls were wonderful! We then ordered a number 52- we weren't asked what type of seafood we wanted. The order arrived to our table and it looked very unappealing TO US, Many people would love it I'm sure......we did not. Because of the look and the texture- I knew I wouldn't be able to eat it. I took the corner of my fork, dipped it into the blended mush of egg and seafood- and decided that we would not want to keep this. Maybe we can try something else. As time passed I realized I had been there sometime and since we weren't very hungry anymore, we would just leave and maybe come back to try something else. When we finally got what appeared to be the restaurant manager over to our table we were in total shock that she was very upset with us when we said we didn't like it. My daugher and I frequent new restaurants, normally if I've had a few bites I will pay for it- but in this case I barely touched this dish. She said that we have to pay because they made it. I told her that I would not be able to pay- it was nothing that we expected. She continued to argue with me and was extremley rude. Finally she walked away yelling about us. I am in total shock that a restaurant would treat their customers this way. I REFUSED to pay and asked what we should do. Should I call the police, should she call the police- I have never been in this predicament before. Just know when going to this restaurant that if you completely dislike something, even if you barely touch it- they made it and will expect you to pay. more

Rude, nonchalant and unfriendly customer service for take out 8/30/2010

Hello: We order from True Thai a lot. We even recommend the restaurant to friends. We usually eat-in and its nice ambience and service. Recently, I was trying to order a take-out over the phone and the person taking the order over the phone (male voice/might be the owner) was unhelpful and rude about the menu choices. And when I politely mentioned this over the phone to him at the end of the order, he hung up! I guess they get too many customers and don't consider being polite of any importance in their business dealings. more

Never received service 8/21/2010

Seated outside, waited, and waited and waited. Received water. Never saw my waiter/waitress. Waited 15 minutes. Won't go back. more

customer service is poor when you order take out food. 5/23/2010

The food comes quick,, it's tasty and it's in a great neighborhood. I like to support small businesses. Pros: quick service, tasty food Cons: poor customer service on the phone, short quick and rude. more

Poor Customer Service has ruined this restaurtant 4/18/2010

My wife and I had eaten here many times and, on numerous occasions brought out of town guests who also loved the food and service. Recently, my wife was reviewing our VISA statement and noticed a very high charge from True Thai. In fact, I had been over-charged by more that $70. When I called VISA, they insisted I call the restaurant. The bearded man (later met him) insisted that I need to drive to the restaurant with my statement, the ORIGINAL transaction receipt, and MY ID - in order to get a credit. He could not have been more rude in the process. We haven't gone back. Pros: No longer outstanding food Cons: Reallly, really rude - and a potential rip-off more

eh... 8/29/2009

First time at true thai was great, and this was a few years ago and with no bearded man in sight. servers were friendly and wait wasn't too long. Second time which was a few days ago...not so good. Servers were still friendly. Food seems to be less than before but still good, especially the laab and curry. But did not get a refill of water until we were ready to pay and leave. I sked the server if they did catering, because I enjoyed the laab a lot. She said they did, and we only needed to call ahead. However, when I went to go pay for our bill. A customer was ahead of me with his bank statemement, and was complaining to the man about being charged multiple times. The bearded man's attitude was rude to the customer, and only took his phone number to call him at a later time. By the time it was my turn to pay, he was already in a sour mood and was unpleasant towards my husband and I. I also asked him about catering, and he stated that there was no catering and his server was wrong. But the server said they had it, and this website even states the rest. under catering! What's up with that? I still would like to come to this place...if the bearded man is not there, and water refills would be nice. Pros: Most food are good, servers-courteous Cons: pop us flat, man with the beard is rude more

Amazing! True Thai is best in Minneapolis... 5/25/2009

This little restaurant gets packed for a reason...it is hands down the best Thai food in Minneapolis. I live in uptown and will drive there to get my Thai fix. Last time I was there we each ordered a dish and they were all huge, if reviewers think the portions are small they must be used to eating at Country Buffet everyday.\r While we all loved our dishes (they were layered with intricate flavors which makes you wonder how anyone ever came up with such an amazing combination while you eat) it was agreed upon that the spicy green bean dish was to DIE for! We, of course. had left overs and the heat definitely intensifies in the fridge, it was dangerous...be warned! \r Also, it gets pretty busy and is a small restaurant, but with the line out the door they still managed to get us in in less than 15min. Service was good. My server actually pulled my chair out for me...\r Do not give a restaurant low ratings because you don't like how they send orders to the kitchen (by number) or because y more

rude 5/1/2009

If I could I would rate our experience at True Thai as zero stars. I am a 64-year-old retired professional man and do not consider myself a demanding or complaining person, but I almost find myself smiling as I recall the entrepreneurial clumsiness displayed to us yesterday when we tried to have lunch at True Thai. We spoke to a woman at the counter who told us it would be a few minutes. I replied that is fine and stepped back from the counter to wait. Several other parties came in and were seated so I asked politely why this was happening. A bearded gentleman, a staff or probably an owner of the place, was nearby and interjected himself into the exchange. He had overheard our inquiry and addressed us as if we were bad employees, harshly and condescendingly telling us that if we weren't standing exactly by the ""wait until you are seated"" sign we would be considered take-out customers. This apparently is necessary despite our prior conversation with the hostess, who did not instruct us exactly how to wait. No indications of that ""system"" are posted to my recollection. His manner reminded me of a supply sergeant rather than a host. Because of this attitude we told him we were leaving and he shrugged. We left and went to Tum Rup Thai where the food is reliably good and the staff are always pleasant. The availability of so many well-run, good, and friendly restaurants in the neighborhood and city, neither I nor anyone I know will feel it necessary to try this restaurant again. No meal is worth the responsibility of absorbing this man's unhappiness. Pros: see below Cons: service and attitude more

Bad experience 3/11/2009

I have been to this place a few times in the past, and and had a good experience each of those times. However, my last dining experience at the restaurant was HORRIBLE. I asked the lady for a cherry coke. The drink tasted ""flat"". I told the waiter, she apologized, and brought me another cherry coke. The drink STILL tasted ""flat"", as if the soda was expired or something. I told the waiter once again, and I asked for another drink-a vanilla coke this time. The vanilla coke was ALSO ""flat""!!. This time I didn't tell the waiter, and decided to just keep the drink. I could seriously tell that the coke was flat, or that it was expired. I ordered some chicken fried rice, and told the waiter to please make it ""medium spicy"". The food was not EVEN A BIT spicy. In fact, the chicken fried rice had a sweet, ""sticky"" taste to it. I seriously was expecting better, because I had better experiences in the past at this restaurant. I gave this restaurant a 3-star rating, because the waiter was extremely courteous and so were rest of the staff. However, the food itself should actually get a lower rating-like 2 stars. Pros: Extremely courteous waiter and service Cons: Horrible Food and flat-tasting soda more

Not so Thai, more of Laos type of cooking! 3/6/2009

The fish cakes, basil fried rice and chicken in red curry was good, although the serving was really small. The seafood tomyam was a huge disappointment. And after complaining to the Thai waitress, she informed us that the cook are from Laos, which explain the taste of the other 4 dishes that we ordered, kind of sweet in tasting and more to Chinese Laotian type of dishes. more

AWFUL SERVICE!!!! 2/6/2009

AWFUL SERVICE! I called to place a pick up and the man who answered the phone was extremely rude! He kept putting me on hold and when I finally got an order he kept asking me ""What number? What number?!"" He was AWFUL! I'm very upset with the bad service! Pros: Can't think of any because of the rude service - it really ruins the whole mood! Cons: BAD SERVICE more

Best Chicken Satay EVER 2/1/2009

Chicken satay is simple but delicious and it is my favorite Thai dish. I've tried it in several locations in the Twin Cities, as well as restaurants in Denver and Atlanta. True Thai has THE BEST that I have ever tasted. Great sweet rice as well, and an extremely friendly waitress!! Pros: Great waitress, authentic food Cons: No parking more

True Thai 12/23/2008

This is the best Thai restraunt I have eaten at in the entire Twin Cities area. I have been there for lunch on two occassions; the buffet was incredible and they accommodated our group of twelve without any problems. It seemed pretty authentic to me, but I am no expert. Try it for yourself! more

Terrible Service 12/22/2008

We've decided not to visit this restaurant anymore, as the last three times we went there, we were seated quickly, but then ignored for twenty minutes. I had to walk back up to the front and ask them to send someone to the table. One time was even at my birthday party. I thought the service would get better with the expansion, but you wait just as long at your table to get noticed. It was not particularly busy. Pros: Good food Cons: Terrible service. more

Best Thai food 10/6/2008

I've been all over the Twin Cities and nothing has compared to this. The Green Curry and Cream Puffs where incredible. Can't wait to go back. Pros: Great Food Cons: May have to wait some time for a table. more
