I went to the town shop to look at bridesmaids dresses and came across one wedding gown that i LOVED! My mom and I were talking to one of the employees who was pretty friendly and...

THE OWNER SCREAMED AND MADE ME CRY HE HUNG UP AFTER 9/13/2011

I go in living 4 hours away my fiance is in the army. i looked at dresses their sales rep insisted telling me what would look good on me and didn't even let me try on what i wanted to. When i saw the dress i thought i wanted she said hurry and get it you are running late so i did i asked her is the top of my dress going tolook better the material kept folding onto my skin and looked horrible. the sales consultant said with a lil steaming it will look beautiful when i went to try the gown for alterations it wasnt right and all they could do is put hourse hair behind the bust making it very uncomfortable. I talked with the owner explaining i was upset and he said he isn't arguing and going to do nothing as far as the dress he would fix it but never did. HE SCREAMED ON THE PHONE AT ME TELLIN ME IT WAS MY FAULT THAT THIS HAPPENED AND WHEN I EXPLAINED I HAD TO GET ANOTHER DRESS HE SAID HOW COULD YOU DO THAT BEHIND MY BACK HE HUNG UP THE PHONE. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE THEY ARE HORRIBLE. THEY ARE ALL RUDE AND NASTY AND WILL NOT EVER DO THE RIGHT THING. more

Town Shop Should be closed!!! 5/28/2011

Before they get your money they are all sweet and helpful. After you have paid. Is when the problems begin. They altered my daughters almost $400.00 prom dress to short. And they said that's how they hem. And they don't care what length we wanted. It was 2 to 3 inches to short and crooked she was wearing flats. So they would not do anything. They said no one would be looking at her feet. Her prom was 3 days away and they would not do anything. Oh, they gave her a free bracelet. That took away from the fact her feet were sticking out. I will never shop there or let anyone I care about shop there either. They need qualified alterations help. And they do not have it. The owner told me they hemmed by hand. When I showed him the hem. He said I mean they use their hands to run the machines. Really? STAY AWAY- unless you like throwing away your money. more

SO give me another place then 4/11/2011

If town shop was awful and the majority went to other places, could you give me some NAMES of other places I could go to get my dress altered nicely? It would be helpful and it would help you guys attain your goal of boycotting Town Shop by spreading the word of other worthry businesses. more

Awesome Store!!! 3/25/2011

I am a working mother, and I spent the weekend prom shopping with my eldest daughter and was so very pleased with the Town Shop. By far, they had the largest selection of any store around, and the salesgirls were extremely helpful. The store was lovely, and it was so nice to be treated to a full service experience. I really appreciated how helpful everyone was. Long story short, my daughter got a beautiful dress and I wish I had gone there sooner...It is a staple in the Hudson Valley, and you must must go there! Thank you ladies for your time and attention! more

the Town Shop is HORRIBLE 3/21/2011

Words cannot express my hatred towards the Town Shop and their employees. Firstly, they are absolutely inappropriate and treat their customers like s***. The manager is INCOMPETENT. Take it from me, my best friend got hired there and they fired her the following day because ""a past employee (with more experience) had come back."" She was NEVER paid for the one day she worked, nor was she given proper notification of termination. She had to constantly call them but they continued to ignore her. Apparently, they welcomed her and made her think that she was a wonderful attribute but fired her after one day, even though she didn't do anything wrong. In fact, she was complimented by every employee in the store for learning everything so quickly on her first day. Also, I went to the Town Shop with my other friend a few months ago and the employees were so rude to us. We could hear them talking about us while we were in the dressing rooms. The same day, there was a verbal argument between two employees. They had ZERO discretion and were cursing in front of the customers. I was uncomfortable! I talked to my friend about this (the one who was hired for that one day) and she added that the girls who work at Town Shop ridicule every person that comes through the store. When a chubby girl came into the store, the employees were laughing at the girl who was trying on dresses. I was disgusted by this story because one should not feel this way in a store while trying on dresses. Thats just absurd and beyond rude. My other friend who got married last year told me a story about how Town Shop accidentally ordered the wrong color of her wedding dress and she ended up wearing a dress that she didn't feel confident about. My friend who worked there told me that the store is very scared of customers who come in, try on their dresses, but go home and order it straight from the website. My opinion: ignore these rude and unprofessional people and order your prom dresses online. If anything, use them to try on the dresses, write down the serial number for the dress, and purchase it online. If you are a bride: STAY AWAY! I've been told that they DON""T take certain things seriously. It's just not worth it! more

Town Shop, Class, Style And Elegance 9/10/2010

I have been a customer of the Town Shop of Poughkeepsie for almost 20yrs. Every milestone in my 3 daughter's lives have been flavored with a ""princess for the day"" dress from the Town Shop. The entire experience has created wonderful moments for us to remember. I encourage everyone who seeks beautiful clothing to find out about the Town Shop for yourself. I had a rush job of two dresses for a wedding in August and they are beautiful! They worked to get it done and they didn't have to. There is nothing but CLASS at the Town Shop. From the owners to the employees, class is all you will find IF you can recognize class when you see it! Ladies of style, class, and elegance, this is the place for you!!! more

Horrible Customer Service 8/21/2010

The owner of this store and all the old cronies that work there need to retire as they have clearly forgotten that they are working in the customer service industry. They were rude and patronizing while in the store and not at all helpful over the phone. more

SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE !!!!!!! 8/12/2010

VERY poor customer service. My daughter ordered her bridesmaid dress from this shop and it was a very aggravating experience. Dress was Much too small, but the staff told me it fitted her. She could not even get it zippered. It took two women to get her into the dress. They then had the nerve to tell me the dress was fine. When I absolutely refused to purchase the dress, they were then able to find one that fit. Alterations were also much more expensive than I was originally told, so I decided to take the dress elsewhere for alterations. Believe me, you can find a better shop than this one. Spend your hard earned money at an establishment that is honest and appreciates its customers. more

THEY DONT DESERVE YOUR BUSINESS! 8/12/2010

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! I didnt even get a foot through the door before being turned off to this place. It took five phone calls and two emails just to find out that they didnt carry the dress I was looking for. Besides their blatant disregard for customer service they are also rude and snooty. When I finally spoke to one of the owners about getting in a sample gown that I wanted he argued with me. Almost yelling at me the guy said I was being stubborn. As he was talking down to me like I was dirt he said I didnt know what I was looking for until I tried something on. As a bride I believe I have the right to wear what I want and be picky about it. When I explained to him that I wanted to make sure the dress was available first so I didnt waste my time and money taking time off at work he said well your a bride you have to spend money, or my case loose money. This place acts as if they are the best thing ever and if you come to their shop you'll be better off. They dont care at all about customer service, their attitude is take it or leave it...well guess what I left it and would never spend my money at a place that hasnt earned my business. more

Great Shop 6/3/2010

They were absolutely amazing. They were great at alterations and made my friend's dress beautiful. The seamstress was very good and everyone else was super friendly. They made sure my friend was completely happy with her dress and did anything they could to make that happen. They went above and beyond and made prom shopping a lot easier. more

What a Rip Off! 5/8/2010

I ordered a bridesmaid dress at Town Shop. They took my measurements, and when the dress came in, it was enormous. I'm sure they ordered it big on purpose so that I would need to pay for alterations there. Not wanting to give them any more of my money, I took it to another tailor. She had to literally take inches off each side of the dress in order for it to fit properly. Very disappointed. more

Dress of my dreams! 5/5/2010

I got everything from the Town Shop for my wedding- my bridal gown, the bridesmaids dresses, my Mom's dress, shoes & jewelry- and I had a wonderful experience. They have an amazing selection of dresses and the staff was personal and friendly. I live in Boston and they were very accommodating with alterations. They are a very busy store and I was so impressed with their willingness to schedule around my travel plans! My dress fit perfectly and I would highly recommend the Town Shop to any bride! [I only wish I was going to the prom after seeing their selection and colors!!] Pros: Staff, Tailoring Cons: None! more

BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! 4/29/2010

A few months ago I got engaged, so I have been spending some time looking for my perfect dress. Although I currently live in Brooklyn, I grew up in Pok., and I have known of the Town Shop for some time. Let me tell you, I was absolutely thrilled with my experience at the Town Shop. The selection was huge, and my consultant, Justine, was so sweet and extremely helpful. From the minute I stepped into the store, everyone treated me as if I was the only one in the store (even though the store was quite busy). My mother, sister and I had a wonderful time, and I found the dress of my dreams! And the congratulatory bottle of wine was so nice and unexpected! Pros: the selection and the service more

Absolutely the WORST bridal shop EVER!!! 3/31/2010

The staff (especially the manager) at Town Shop are so incredibly RUDE and unhelpful that they absolutely do not deserve anyone's business. I called the store to find out if they had the bridesmaid dresses I was interested in and the man who answered the phone just yelled at me to ?find another bridal shop is I was going to bother him? and then hung up. I called back hoping someone else would answer and help me and they just hung up on me again!!!!! All I said was ""Hi I'm calling to see if you have Mori Lee Affairs dresses in stock"" and he just yelled at me! The Town Shop is by far the most unprofessional and rude wedding vendor I have dealt with. There are so many other bridal shops that know how to do business so don't waste your time on Town Shop. Pros: None that I know of Cons: Incredibly RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL more

MY ONLY WEDDING PLANNING MISTAKE! 10/31/2009

I recently got married in 2009 and choose to purchase my gown at the Town Shop. The dress I tried on was beautiful and I purchased my dress that day. The staff was helpful. The next 3 times I went in (to look at bridesmaids dresses, flowers girl dresses, and go for my fitting) they were EXTREMELY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. When I received my ordered dress it did not fit and needed many alterations. I decided to go with other vendors because of this unnecessary stress. more

Horrible Service 10/8/2008

Horrible service ? a few of the sales people were rude and disrespectful. We stopped in and said we would only take a minute. A sales lady offered for the bride to be to look at the book. Within a minute the manager came stomping over and kicked us out ? 10 minutes before closing time. The bride to be was just setting up a better time to come back ? but we?ll find a better place who will treat their customers properly. more
