After reading tons of positive reviews about Tiger Lilly, I decided to stop by there after work today and talk to one of the artists. I'd been thinking about my 2nd tattoo for awhile, but was nervous because it's latin script on my ribcage and i was worried about moving during the process and ruining the artwork. When I walked in, the artist behind the counter was SUPER friendly and instantly made me feel comfortable. I asked his name and he said ""mike v."" i told him i definitely wanted him to do my tattoo because of the great things other reviewers had said about him. because of a cancellation, he said he could do it that evening since it was small. i showed him the fonts i was deciding between and he offered to hand draw it to make it more personal. even in pencil, his scriptwork was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! he made sure i was comfortable while we were setting up and gave me some good suggestions on how to hold still. it took all of 10 minutes, but he talked and joked with me during the whole process. i'm sure in comparison to most of the tattoos he does mine was really little and simple, but he made me feel like it was important. the finished product is amazing and i couldn't be happier with it... and mike happily answered my millions of questions about aftercare.\r \r i STRONGLY recommend mike v. at tiger lilly, but i looked through all the portfolios and any of the artists there would be great. the shop is very clean and has a great atmosphere. plus, it's open late! I just got a tattoo from Mike V today... He was wonderful. I had to call about 3 different times the past 2 weeks to get my appointment. I didn't mind a bit - It wasn't a hassle, it was just because it was a busy time for them and several people were taking vacation, so no one was really positive who would be around on the day I needed. The point of my mentioning that is because EVERY single person I spoke to was so friendly, that I was even more excited to go there for my new tattoo. When I spoke with Mike and made my appointment, he was great - I liked him right away, and he was able to scoot my sister and I right in even on short notice. This tattoo was pretty simple, some writing on the inside of my wrist, but it is beautiful. His fine lines of the script are gorgeous. I absolutely loved him - he was knowledgable, professional and personable. While there, I looked through all of the artists portfolios, and I would have been pleased to have any of them ink me... You could definitely see their different styles, but they were all incredible. I can't wait to go back in for my next one... This is my first tattoo in Portland and i'm glad i chose to go to Tiger Lily's. Mike V is kick a**!! The artists here actually gives a hoot about what you put on your flesh, and will give you suggestions on what will or will not look good. I highly recommend this shop not only because they're clean, professional, and have awesome artists, but also because they're fun to work with :-) Pros: clean, friendly staff, fair pricing, fun to work with Cons: none! more

I had my first tattoo experience at Tiger Lilly a few weeks ago and I made an appointment with Igor. He seemed very confident in his work and rightfully so! He did an amazing job and is an incredible artist. I am very satisfied with the tattoo that I got and when I get another one I will definitely go to Igor. Tiger Lilly has a fun, laidback, and comftorable feel to it and all the artists seemed like really cool creative people. Mike V did my first tattoo at Tiger Lilly a few weeks ago. I brought in a picture which was somewhat of a vague starting point, but he listened to what I had in mind and the sketch he came up with was beautiful. He had a good vision and provided suggestions throughout the entire process. The colors are perfect and the lines are perfect... I've gotten what seems like a billion compliments on my tattoo. I highly recommend! more

Since this was my first tattoo I was very nervous about finding someone, I checked online and asked around and the name Tiger Lilly kept coming up...Even after hearing all the good things I just kept thinking something would go wrong yeah alittle paranoid I was being. I went in just to check things out and brought my drawning just in case...I was amazed and how nice everyone was even the customers were friendly..made my appointment with Igor after talking with him for a bit about this was my first...he was very understanding and confident in his work, I felt alittle more relieved. Went in on a Monday after work scared as hell I felt like a big baby all worried for nothing! Igor did an amazing tattoo beyond my expections I was proud to show everyone the art he did on my back...this was alittle over a week ago and its already healed nicely! Thank you Igor for everything you are truly the best! I would highly recommended Igor at Tiger Lilly...Amazing work, Friendly and just an over all cool place! Pros: Everything! Cons: Nothing! more

I went to Tigerlily for my first tatoo with my father. They did such a good job that I came back two years later. Mat did my tattoo, and he was really knowlegable, and nice to talk to. This Tattoo parlor came highly recommended, and they have lived up to the praise. I have been to two different tattoo artists at tigetlily, and they were excellent. I have idea for my next tattoo and I will be going back to Tigerlily. Pros: Knowledgeable, Reasonable, talented, and clean. Cons: The Shop is a little small. more

I recently turned 50 a celebrated by getting my first tattoo by Amy. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the shop and the friendliness of all of the artists. Amy made my experience enjoyable and memorable by her talent and wit. Thanks Amy for a great Birthday!!! more

i walked in tigerlilly and was immediately greeted by ben. i showed him the design i was looking to get, which already was a little intricate and specific. he drew it up really quickly and nicely. the three hour process was not bad at all because ben was such a great guy to talk to and just kept me relaxed. hes just such a great person! but beyond that, the end product was beyond belief. he put his own twist on the design i gave him, with shading and all, and it looks unreal. i dont think i could be happier with my tattoo. once i can save up enough, im booking my next appointment with him. i wouldnt go to anyone else. i first went to see the folks at Tigerlily in 2005... I went and described my idea and they all agreed that Mod was the man for the job. I made an appointment to meet him, and was certain that he was the one who could bring my vision to life. I had several components of the tattoo that I wanted incorporated, and although the task seemed daunting, Mod took it all in stride. He assured me, ""No problem,"" and I left feeling very happy. Mod drew up a rad design for me, and then I flaked. Life got hard, I had no money, no time, and no way to get my tattoo done. By the time I went back to see Mod in mid-2006, he'd thrown the design out, thinking that I was never coming back in. When I re-appeared on his doorstep, so to speak, he was anything but rude. Kind, understanding, gracious, and enthusiastic about starting the project again, he offered to draw up a new plan for the elaborate tattoo I wanted. We varied the design quite a bit from the original complicated idea, and although I supplied Mod with ideas and pictures of elements I wanted, he formed a beautiful, cohesive design that was better than the first! Needless to say, I am pleased beyond words with the final product. I was so happy to get the tattoo completed (after 5 or 6 sittings), but sad that my ""Friday Tattoo Dates,"" with Mod came to a close. I'm already planning to incorporate some additional items (and cover up the 10 year old Kanji) with more of Mod's art. The guys upstairs at Tigerlily were always friendly, informative, kind, entertaining, and damn talented to boot. I was frequently nosy about tattoos, how they became artists, history, and the like, and they all answered with authority, humor, and well-founded knowledge. \r \r Matthew, Mod & Matt Reed are a class act and you'd be a fool to go anywhere but Tigerlily for your custom work. These guys are true artists, and the art Mod created for me is beyond my wildest expectation. Pros: talent, humor, professionalism Cons: none! more

I'm from Anvik, Alaska and I went to Oregon for a conference. It was the first time that I visited Oregon and I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a while so I decided to get one while I was there. Ben did my tattoo and It turned out great for my first tattoo. He drew it up really fast on my leg, he didn't even use anything. It didn't take very long so that was also nice. So yeah, I recommend this place. It's relaxing and the people were nice. Pros: They know what they're doing and they also are great artists. Cons: Small work areas. more

I've gotton a few of my tattoos at Tiger Lilly. After looking over the portfolios, I chose Mike V to do my work. His portfolio looked amazing, very clean, beautiful work. Everybody in the shop seemed cool, and friendly. A very inviting place! I will be going back to Mike V. for more tattoos in the future. more

I recently made my first trip out to Portland to visit a friend. Of course, I had to commemorate my big trip across the US by getting a tattoo. I researched several tattoo shops in the area, and I had decided on Tigerlily. When I got there, the shop was very clean and the artists were beyond friendly. I discussed my design and scheduled a time to come back. My artist was going to be Amy.\r \r Amy was AWESOME! She is very friendly, very artistic and she has a gentle hand. She is the first female to tattoo me, and I loved her to bits! She talked and joked around the whole time and made it a fun experience. She does killer work and she is a perfectionist... which to me, is very important when getting a tattoo.\r \r I can't wait to go back to Portland to visit her again and get more work done by her. If you are looking for a place in Portland to get a tattoo, you must go check out Tigerlily! And be sure to ask for Amy... tell her the girl with the cute bats sent you! :) Pros: Everything! Matt Reed has given me the most bitchin tattoos on the planet. You wouldn't believe all of the compliments that I get.He fixed a bad tattoo that my girlfriend had (done by a bozo several years ago)and made it awesome. Very talented in the different styles. Everyone there is super nice and talented as well. A very unique place. more

This was my first tattoo, after thinking about it for years, and the whole staff at Tiger Lilly, and especially Matthew, the artist who worked with me, made it an easy, comfortable, fun, and interesting experience. Matthew is just incredible. I gave him a very complicated design one which he spent a lot of time. I changed my mind the day before the tattoo and he had to scrap an AMAZING tracing and spend on hour on the new design. Astonishingly, he didn't charge for any of his design time. He knew I was apprehensive of pain and discomfort and he gently helped me understand and then experience the tattoo -- without ever being condescending. His good humor and genuine manner are always at the surface. The best part, of course, is that he is a gifted and experienced artist. The tattoo turned out even better than I expected and now I am psyched, in a big way, to get more work done. \r \r I visited several places in PDX and spoke to quite a few people. Matthew's portfolio, which has amazing detail and shadow work, really captured me. His character, professionalism, and pride in his work made this a perfect experience. I couldn't be happier. I felt immediately at home in Tiger Lilly. I had talked to several Portland artists about a couple of pieces I wanted but felt hesitant with every one of them...until I talked to Mike V. at Tiger Lilly. He was personable and his portfolio looked amazing. I showed him what I was wanting and he came up with the idea of fusing the two together, which hadn't even occured to me. What he drew out was fantastic and the finished piece itself is beautiful. I couldn't be more pleased. I will most certainly seek him out for future pieces. \r In addition to the above, the entire staff was very friendly and helpful. I had a chance to peruse all of their portfolios and I must say that each one was impressive. Nice, clean environment as well. If you're in the market for a tattoo, you can't go wrong here. more

Got tattooed by Ben about 8 years ago in New Orleans. Buy far one of my favorite tattoos Still looks like I got it yesterday very vivid colors and just a great solid tattoo. and to see him here was great. Wondered where to go when i arrived in pdx now i know Ben is here. more

Went to get my first tattoo, a memorial piece at Tigerlilly. i looked at several portfolios before deciding to talk to Ben. not only was he open to my design (custom, odd), but he was able to incorporate the two ideas into one. It turned out better than i could have ever hoped for. My friend was so impressed, that he had Ben work on a cover-up as soon as we were finished. Worth every penny. The next time I'm in PDX, i'm going back to see Ben! more

Shannon gave me some sick Norse rune art on my shin. People constantly stop and ask me about it. When I brought him the image, he not only acted interested in the concept but he enhanced it and recommended the best placement on my lower leg. I couldn't freak more about how cool it looks! Fine lines, deep black, great appreciation for what I wanted him to create.
