The Cellar Homebrew

My wife unknowningly ordered the wrong beer materials for me for Christmas. Once I realized this I contacted Brian the owner who was very reluctant to take anything back but said to send back what I didn't want and said "he would work with me". The materials were sent back at my expense and I confirmed he received it. I asked if he could give me equal value in extracts and he said he would. That was back at the end of January and despite several phone calls and emails I have not received the correct materials or even a response to my Feb 24th email. My advise to prospective customers is to avoid this business and if you do need to purchase supplies be certain you order the right stuff as apparently the owner has a no return no refund policy. I plan on following up with the BBB, WA AG, WA Brewers Association, Media and whoever else will listen. There is a chance he will follow through but so far no luck more

I've checked out Bob's and Cellar Homebrew stores and prefer Cellar. Their prices are better and they feel laid-back and friendly. They have a wide selection of ingredients, including a lot of liquid yeast strains and about two dozen hop varieties in the fridge, and bulk specialty grains and malt in the back, as well as bulk liquid malt extract for a good price. There's less equipment for big batches and all-grain brewing here than at Bob's. The staff are homebrew-knowledgeable and helpful, and the store has its own version of the loyalty card: Buy ingredients for seven batches, get the eighth free. Worth the drive, for me. more

The Cellar isn't a bad place to buy homebrewing supplies, but it was my least favorite of the three I've been to in the Seattle area, I have to say. The help just wasn't as extremely helpful as at Larry's, nor was the inventory as huge... I did find a good deal on some dry ale yeast here, though, and there's certainly nothing bad about the store. more
