I have been eating here since about 3 months after it first opened. I travel a lot and enjoy comparing restaurants. This is the best breakfast place that I have eaten at. I have tried some of the other places in the U.S. but they just don't make the grade. I rate by breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am now into trying as many bbq places that I can in the U.S. Most of my travel is international and I do the same when in other countries. more

I must say once I ate here ... I will not ever go back to Ihop -Denny's... Why ??? The Breakfast club is the Best Breakfast to my soul. more

January 2, 2012 I visited the Breakfast Klub café this morning at 9:30am with a family member who came in from out of state to visit me and experience the food at The Breakfast Klub. After waiting in the line, we were finally seated. I went into the rest room to wash my hands, while in the rest room my cousin placed her order for breakfast and the waiter walked away. I when I came out of the rest room, I sat back down but then notice that I had left the lights on my car on. I told my cousin to place the order for me while I ran back to my car to turn off the lights. When I returned, (five minutes later) I was told by management that I could not place an order. I was shocked and incredibly surprised by this refusal to service me. By this time, my cousin’s food order had come to the table but I was still refused to be serviced. I did not want my cousin to go hungry and insist that she eat her food. Twenty minutes later, another waitress came to my table and told me that she would take my order, by now; I was experiencing hunger pain, so I reluctantly placed my order. An additional 25 minutes had passed, my cousin was now done with her food and I still had not received my food order. I told the waitress that at this point I was very dissatisfied with the horrible customer service, the initial refusal of service and that I wanted to cancel the order, and get a refund so that I could take my business someplace else where it is appreciated. Later, the owner came over to our table and was EXTREMELY RUDE, arrogant, and sarcastic. He did not offer an apology for the lack of service nor did he give me a refund. He basically told me that he was not concern about my complaints because he has a lot of money and a line of people who do not complain; he then raised his voice and told me that he didn’t care if I never came back to the restaurant again, he then turned and walked away. This is certainly unacceptable behavior that the owner displayed; I was humiliated in front of other customers and also in the present of my cousin (who came to visit me here in Houston) she witnessed this offensive refusal of service from the owner. This is the worst experience I have had in a Houston restaurant. I will not support nor will I EVER go back to the Breakfast Klub again. The owner is lousy attitude and lack of concerns regarding the quality of service. more

OK so I have been wanting to visit this place since it opened. Love the name, love the locale. Yes I knew it was comfort food before I went but I have not been the least bit comfortable since I left! Had vegetable omelet with grits and a biskit. All I can say is I could only eat half (usually I can eat all plus the kitchen sink) and I feel like I have been carrying around lead all day. YUK! That's all I can say. Really wanted to like it, just didn't! more

Every now and then I throw good eating habits to the wind and have a big meal. The Klub is my favorite for a BIG breakfast. Eggs, sausage, hash browns are very good here and you will leave with nerves soothed by a large dose of comfort food. I like it. more

I was pretty excited about visiting the Breakfast Klub as the reviews are mostly glowing. I've seen the long lines outside of the place so my expectations were high. So, I waited in line. The inside of the place is nice and the service was friendly. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and coffee. My girlfriend ordered pancakes with strawberries which comes with eggs and sausage. She also ordered orange juice. Total price: $27. That's quite a bit to spend for a breakfast for two but I thought it would be worth it because we'd be eating something special. Nope. The pancakes looked like basic pancakes you make with bisquick at home but tasted worse. Seriously, pancakes out of a box are better. These pancakes had no taste and were probably recently heated in a microwave. The strawberries were basic pieces of strawberries. That's it. The eggs were basic eggs, nothing special. The sausage looked like Jimmy Dean sausage that you would cook at home from the freezer but tasted worse. Basically there was no special taste to anything. The orange juice came from a box. My sandwich was decent but was not special for a sandwich costing $8. When I went to self-serve my coffee, many of the pitchers were empty. Overall, the breakfast was ok but considering the price, a major disappointment. There are dozens of better breakfast places in Houston than this overrated and overhyped spot. I would even take IHOP every day of the week over this place. I guess if you absolutely have to eat chicken with waffles, this is your place. I didn't try it but I'm guessing it's not worth the $15 it will cost you to eat what looks like cafeteria food. more

Very loud place. Voices bounced off the wall. Cat fish was ok but nothing to go back for. I felt the decor made me uncomfortable. more

After all the talk I've heard about this place, my husband and I decided to check it out. Upon spotting the place, we noticed that there was a long line outside. We waited for about an hour before we finally got inside and ordered out food. Yea, that sounds crazy to wait that long for breakfast on a Saturday morning at. But I have to admit, it was worth our wait. The Wings and Waffles were amazing. The wings were breaded with very seasoned flour and were fried to perfection. The wafffle was cooked just right as well, crispy on the outside but fluffy in the inside. My husband had the Catfish and Grits and he absolutely loved it. He's very picky about his food, being a former Sous Chef, and I was suprised to hear him say it was some of the best catfish he's had in Houston. In addition to the flavorful food, both our plates had generous portions. We both took our leftovers home. Pros: food, free parking across the street Cons: long wait for table more

If this place won ""Best Breakfast"" in Houston, our great city must have lowered it's standards. Please Houston tell me what do you see in this place?? Both times I was there it was an AWFUL experiance one time the owner (i asked an employee who he was, (he was disciplining an employee in the middle of the diningroom), she looked at me like I was crazy that i didnt know who Marcus Davis was. Does the Health Dept ever visit this place? So PLEASE Houston, help rebuild our creditability. Pros: NONE!!!! Cons: No Parking, over priced, RUDE employees, Filthy dirty!!!! more

It is located at the mouth of the Richmond/Louisiana exit. It is set up like a jazz caf? with art on all the walls, large windows to let in the maximum amount of light, and soft jazz and R&B plays in the background to provide a lively vibe to enjoy your meal. The Klub has a very friendly and responsive wait and cashier staff. It boasts really short lines due to their incredible service and a wait staff brings your meals to you to make sure that your food gets to you hot. It has a very organized and clean self-service station with everything stacked up exactly where it needs to be. If you get there early enough they will even bring a menu to your car so that you can order immediately and get your food promptly. This Klub opens extra early, 7 am, for those early birds and even has a special for people who are early risers. Offered from 7 am to 9 am, the breakfast special is your choice of bacon, pan sausage, or ham with two eggs, potatoes or grits, and a choice of thickly-cut country Texas toast or a scrumptious buttermilk biscuit. All of that delicious home-cooked meal for a minuscule $6.25 is the best value the Klub has to offer. Compare that to other breakfast restaurants and caf?s where you can expect to shell out upwards of $10. Recommended is the Kountry Sausage & Eggs. It is comprised of delicious, fanned smoked Kountry links & two eggs served with lightly-salted, reasonably peppered potatoes mixed with red and green bell peppers and saut?ed onions or wholesome buttery grits, and your choice of Texas toast or a biscuit. Other options are their Three Egg Omelets and the plate sized waffles. Take your pick from a Swiss cheese, spinach, and mushroom omelet, the three cheese omelets, the three meat and cheese omelets, or the enormous veggie omelets. None of the eggs are too salty or overly seasoned. The eggs are light and fluffy and perfectly compliment the potatoes or grits, and toast or biscuit that come with it. The waffle that this place cooks up are 8 inches in diameter and are made with strawberry, banana, or walnut mixed into the batter. They are served lightly coated in powdered sugar and don?t need syrup added to them. They melt in your mouth. Primarily a breakfast joint, the Klub does offer a variety of sandwiches, salads, and daily lunch specials. Signature dishes that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else would have to be the Krawfish Fettuccine and the Tie-Bow Chiken. The Krawfish Fettuccine is a fusion of Cajun and Italian cuisine. It incorporates a creamy, cheesy Cajun sauce with tender crayfish served over fettuccine pasta garnished with jumbo shrimp and concatenated by garlic toast. The Tie-Bow Chikin is another attempt at this fusion. It combines thickly sliced grilled chicken placed deliberately over a bed of farfalle pasta and served with a white cream sauce that is flanked by garlic toast. The prices are kept reasonable by the fact that they are only open until 2pm daily and Rice University students who have a hedgehopper card save an additional 15% off of their orders. It is definitely a place to go if you need a change of scenery and offers its own literature section if you choose to read other material besides your textbooks. I recently moved into the apartment building not too far from this Breakfast Klub and decided to treat myself to some breakfast today. The restaurant is your typical, poorly kept, neighborhood spot that has never been renovated since opening day. I guess the TVs inside can count but the outside is just awful. Citrus colors upon citrus.... The inside is just horrible. Luckily I only had to walk a few blocks because parking is non existent. I estimated 15 spaces in the from, maybe 10 in the rear. Would seem like a fair amount but its not enough for the amount of customers the place caters to. As I walked in, I walked into a line of about 9 people. I told the guy in front of me good morning and he turned his nose up at me and looked the other way. Apparently customers aren't supposed to talk to each other. A lady immediately approached me with a menu and started to read it to me ??? okay ??? Then she wanted to know where I was from, if I had ever been there before, if I was expecting or looking for additional people. Just crazy stuff that you normally don't get asked at a restaurant... She finally left to tend to some other customers. Then after a few steps forward in line she asked me if I was ready to order. Mind you, I didn't see any rush to order because the line was long. So I took another look at the menu after awing at the prices. Eggs & grits were like $7, a 20oz bottle of juice was almost $3, a cinnamon roll was $4. So the lady came back again to ask me if I was ready to order. I just picked the first thing I saw, which were the chicken and waffles and told her thats what I wanted. All that rushing just to tell me to tell the lady at the register ""when"" I get there. So I get to the register and finally place my order. Waffle & chicken and a 20oz bottle of apple juice... Total is $14 and some change. Gave the lady my payment and she give me my juice and a number. I found it odd that I had to get my own silverware. There seemed to be plenty of bus boys. Im sure one of them can set tables as they are cleaning them. I found the station pretty unsanitary and I went through 4 or 5 forks before finding one I could eat with. You pretty much get everything at this station. Syrup, coffee, butter etc. I found it very inconvenient considering what I was paying to eat there. Next challenge was finding a table. I went to two empty table, the first was a 4- seater. As I was getting settled the lady comes over and asked me to move for a larger party, which I didn't have a problem with. Until she directed me to a 2 seater by the line. After telling the lady I would prefer to sit AWAY from the line where the door is opening and closing, she found me a table in the rear. From the time it took for me to obtain my own silverware, syrup, butter, and find a table. The food was finally carried over to me. It was nice and hot. Waffle was delicious, wings were nice and juicy. Other then the numerous staff walking around asking questions, I enjoyed my meal. The wait staff seemed a bit pushy. Right as I finished sucking the last bone the guy was there to ask me if I was finished and wanted to clear my table. I saw the owner but he only seemed concerned to meet & greet people he knew. Or if they they were some politician. I guess the rest of the staff annoys the ""normal"" people. This restaurant is VERY overrated and overpriced. Thought we should try somewhere new and this place gets rave reviews. Went mid morning when there was a very short line. Greeter gave us overly-detailed instructions on how the self-service system operated as if we had never been in a cafe before. Made us squish up to the people in front to shorten the line even though it was already very short. At the counter, many of the instructions of the greeter (e.g. where to find silverware and coffee) were repeated. Room echoed a lot. Very noisy. Dark, dingy even. Couldn't see the kitchen so could not tell if it was clean. Not overly impressed with our meals. Mine was eggs Benedict with huge quantity of different meats (good) but very, very salty (bad). Coffees were self service in different pots graduated from weak on left to strong on right but many of the pots were empty. Several different people came round to ask if everything was OK. Too many! IMO, a restaurant should have confidence in itself and not need to ask. We hated the noise levels, the fairly dark space, having to wait in line to order, and being bossed around while waiting in the line - especially the order to squeeze up against the people in front. The noise levels were really bad and we got out as soon as we could. Our favorite breakfast place is Harry's on Bagby/Taft. No waiting in line (served at table), light, airy, quiet, friendly but not officious, delicious food, extensive menu (Greek, Latin, American), and a visible and very clean kitchen. Owner Marcus Davis is a hard worker. He has a giving attitude and a warm spirit. He inspires exemplary customer service attitudes among his employees. Truly, though, he probably hires wonderful staff members to begin with. I was down to give an energy speech in Houston from my Alaska home and Houston son, Todd, wanted me to experience his favorite breakfast place. I've never eaten such a good breakfast surrounded by such wonderful folks. A sweet lady met us at the door with a menu and welcomed us to the Breakfast Klub, then told us about the bottomless coffee cup and the specials. you need to be thee early so you don't end up last in line. Almost self-serves, which meants, you order in line, and get number to seat, then someone will bring you food. The best on the menu was the ""katfish and grits"" and ""fired wings and waffle"" for breakfest..... I had the katfish and it too greasy for me...other than that, it was so good. I would say, this place is good for lunch. Something interesting, their lunch menu items are actually less greasy than the breakfest ones....
