Best

Taylors is good place to eat. It's romantic, and has very delicious dry aged steak. It also has great...

Worst

I went to Taylor's last night with three friends; we have all eaten there regularly over the past eight years, including birthday celebrations, bachelor parties, and casual dinner...

Waiters couldn't wait for us to leave 1/28/2006

On a first date and I don't want to take her to a nicer steakhouse. Taylor's is always a good choice. I've been there before and they're steaks are good enough. I love the old school look and feel to the place and it's quiet which makes having conversations easy. Only problem was the pushy waiters and busboys. They came around 6 times to ask if we were done with our plates. Some people might miscontrue this as polite behavior but I always take it as ""hey, you guys down yet?! hurry up so I can make some more money!"" ANNOYING! Pros: Ambience Cons: pushy staff, bad neighborhood more

So Good I Could Not Speak 10/25/2005

Dinner was so quiet that evening. I could not believe how great the steak tasted that I could not speak. The steak melted in my mouth. Unlike many L.A. restaurants, the service was also wonderful. The staff made you feel like you've been going there for years! Great value as well. Pros: Steak, Service, Price Cons: Parking more

User review by sizzlingfriar 6/5/2005

Taylor's Steak House on 8th Street, an LA classic as far as I am concerned, offers exceptional steaks (never had a bad one), can handle large groups in their private room and is just classy without being pretentious. Bad neighborhood. Bull (and steak too) has their own parking lot with attendant. Not like those BH and other West Side ritzy ""dumps"". Valet not required but tip the attendant anyway. They are watching your car. Give it a try you will love it!!!! Leave babies and immature children at home. more

AN EXCEPTIONAL VALUE IN TODAYS ECONOMY 6/5/2005

I have enjoyed Taylors for over 35 years. It is a real down to earth restaurant with very moderate prices. The quality of their meat is exceptional. Service is exceptional and very courteous. You get real value for your dollar. I can not recommend this restaurant more hightly. It is an institution. Pros: Value, Quality, Friendly Cons: Crowded more

... and I don't usually even eat red meat! 4/25/2005

I felt comfortable at Taylor's right away! We sat at the bar while our table was prepared and were poured strong and affordable cocktails. What? It's not 20 bucks for two cocktails!?? Wow. Our waitress, (Dori?), was perfect. The minute I even thought of a question, she was there. We ate a GIANT Coulette steak and the London Broil. The london broil was served with an amazing best horse radish sauce. The meat was like butter. The wine is reasonably priced and the deserts hit the spot. Overall, I think it is the best dining experience I've had in a while! Pros: Atmosphere, Well timed service, Not too hip! more

Tasty, affordable steakhouse! 3/10/2005

Taylor's exudes old-school ambiance, with red booths, dark woods and dim lighting. They offer wonderful cuts of meat, complete with a baked potato, veggie side and a salad for a great, overall price. Try the Culotte (only 2 cuts per steer)--it's a really juicy, thick cut of meat. It's a great place to order a Manhattan and slice into a great meal. The location in La Canada is equally cool. more

damn!!!! 3/8/2005

i can't believe the excellent service i received. everything was served in a timely fashion and the steaks... were AWESOME!!! i love to eat so u can trust my review. oh and let's not forget the reasonable prices. steakhouses will usually cost u an arm and a leg but Taylor's is soooo reasonable. i don't know how they do it... this is restaurant u must visit!!! Pros: inexpensive, great food, great service Cons: none, none, none more

Family Favorite 12/12/2004

When the parents are in town, we go to Taylor's. They have great steaks, plenty of booze, great atmosphere, good service, and the price is always right. They will also accommodate just about anything. When I want a straightforward meal without $15 side dishes and $50 steaks, I come to Taylor's. I hate to say beloved classic, but it doesn't get any closer to that than this place. Pros: Steaks, Prices, Atmosphere Cons: , Crowded more

Nice, but not for special occasio 9/11/2004

First and foremost, the steaks are good (especially for the price) and the servers are attentive. The steaks at this restaurant come completely unseasoned (nothing on them at all). The side dishes, salads, soups, and deserts are passable. I had the culotte, which was a very large, thick cut of top sirloin and it was excellent. My girlfriend had the london broil, which was some of the finest I've ever had. The good steaks are really brought down by the crowd and ambience. I expected something a little more upscale for a mahagony paneled steak restaurant. When we were there there were people wearing baseball caps, athletic shorts, and track pants. The crowd was loud and everyone was watching a football game on the TV. If I want a sports bar I'll go elsewhere. I like to enjoy a nice steak in peace. Pros: Value, Meat isn't a la carte Cons: , Ambience more

Can't believe its so Affordable 8/27/2004

This place screams value!!!! Not to mention Frank Sinatra used to eat there. The food is absolutely amazing, its just as good as Ruth Chris' without the hefty price tag, and its quaint. I like the fact that they don't allow cell phone usage in the dining hall-so you can actually carry on a conversation with a person across from you, and the lighting is dim, so it makes this the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Corkage fees are inexpensive, so bring a bottle of red wine collecting dust in your cabinets and spare the cost of alcohol! Who would have thought that the best steaks around are hidden inside Korean Town...Make a reservation so you don't have to wait for a table. FYI: this isn't really a place for the kids to run around and be loud...so call up the babysitter- You'll be glad you did. Pros: Food, Service, Value more

Great value,great food 9/2/2003

this 50 year old Steakhouse is just the type of place that makes L.A. the mecca it is. The Waiters (male and female) the Bar Tenders all are some of the best in the City. Old leather booths and prime meats, just great. Try an end cut bone in Prime Rib charred on the outside, medium inside. To die for. Pros: great food, great staff, protected parking more

Good, not great 6/15/2003

I fully expected to be extremely pleased upon entering the restaurant. The classic decor, cozy feel and abundantly friendly staff made my party feel welcome. But, when it comes down to it, it's all about the food. And, Taylor's food is good, not great. The bone-in New York was highly recommended by the bartenders. So was the culotte. Ultimately, the New York was a chore, undercooked and underflavored. The culotte was tough and stringy. If you're looking for a good steak at a great price, this is your place. If you want magic, stick the better know steak houses LA has to offer (Ruth Chris, Dan Tana's, Mastro's). Truth is, you get what you pay for. Pros: Inexpensive, Not trendy, Nice staff Cons: Mediocre steak more

Mmmm! Mmmm! Gooood!!! 4/27/2003

It was the most incredible prime rib I've ever had. It melted in my mouth and left me wanting more. This is, by far, the best steak experience I've had to date. Everyone needs to know about Taylor's! Pros: Portions, Service, Upstairs Dining Cons: Parking, Locale more

Another G&T Please 4/17/2003

I'm a vegetarian who occasionally eats fish, yet I LOVE this place. Food was delicious and the gin and tonics were perhaps the best I've ever tasted. Got two words for Taylors: Old Skool. I love it! Pros: great service, delicious food, old school hollywood Cons: parking (if crowded) more

surprising and enjoyable experience 2/26/2003

we were pleasantly surprised when we walked into Taylor's. in a shady part o' town, a little haven.. the restaurant was charming and cozy (we were concerned by some of the other reviews) the service was excellent, friendly and helpful- the steak (the luncheon filet with onions) was fantastic. the turkey wasn't so great, but that's what you get for ordering turkey in a steakhouse. i'll definitely drop in again for a whiskey at the bar or that occasional i-feel-like-dressin-up-and-toasting-life intimate dinner. all in all, very glad i found this little treasure and, no less, in my neighborhood. Pros: atmosphere, service, food more

Mooo! Best Steaks in LA! 2/6/2003

I love Taylor's. You do need reservations, but other than that, when you want a good bloody steak, this in the place to go. The service is great, though I suggest trying to be seated on the lower rather than upper level. Pros: Near Downtown, Good value, Great bar Cons: upstairs isn't nice more

My steak joint 2/3/2003

I don't get down here as often as I'd like, but it's my preferred pit stop for my occasional meat craving. I figure if your going to do it, do it right! Taylors lets you do that without breaking the bank. Oddly juxtaposed with Korea town, Taylor's seems to betray the history of the neighborhood. I assume many of the people I see there are locals who have been coming for years. I agree with the comment about the culotte. It's a hunka-hunk of lean tasty meat, but there are tenderer on the menu. Pros: Reasonably priced more

A Great value 1/17/2003

Very good steak at extremely fair prices. Its not in an area you'd expect to find a great steakhouse, but its worth the trip. more

Prime Time Only! 1/13/2003

One of the few places where you can get still a prime cut of beef. Order only off the top of the menu but you won't be sorry. Thick, delicious and cooked to order. I love the culotte, but once in a while catch a bad one and send it back. Also, Bruce has opened another Taylor's in LaCanada on Foothill Blvd. for the suburban crowd. Just as good and in fact has better selection of appetizers. Best value I've found in years of searching. Pros: Prime Beef, comfortable atmospher, Valet parking Cons: busy weekends, so-so service more
