Worst

Taste of Texas is good food but for a steak I would recommend Lynns STeakhouse off of Dairy Ashford. It is excellent service, food, and the setting is quiet. Alot of companies a...

Over priced Mediocre food, this is the place for you 8/15/2011

My troubles started with TOT when I made my reservation, I was put on Ignored when I tried to make a reservation for 20, most restaurants would jump to get a big party in but not TOT, I had to hang up and call back and ask for a manager who apoligized and assured me that is not how they do business. The day of my dinner party with Clients, we were stuck in a waiting area even though more then 60% of our guests were there, then when 99% of my guest arrived we were still made to wait as they seated a party of 2, reservation was for six we were escorted to our table at 6:20, once we were moved to our table which was in the fire escape hall way, the area was quite but rather warm and when asked to turn down the air I was given attitude and lied to, we ate dinner in a tight area with 20 bodies warming up the place, a manager never came over to greet us, most my guest enjoyed the food, I had the grilled shrimp, was a little over cooked. Next day called to express my experience to the manager, the buck was passed to the night manager, was told I would get a call back, that never happened, guess dropping over 1K for dinner don't get you much these days. I know my next big dinner party will NOT be at Taste of Texas. more

Has gone down the toilet 8/13/2011

So, I just got back from Taste of Texas and I probably go there 3-4 times a year. However, this time, I had the worst experience ever! When you wait for 2.5 hours for a steak, you expect it to be cooked the way you order it and to taste good. Unfortunately, my medium-rare steak came out as medium-well and kinda tough so I told the waiter and at first, they offered to take the ribeye back and bring me prime rib because that would be ready quicker and my family had already got their food and were half-way through their meal. I told him that I did not want a prime rib, I ordered a ribeye and I've waited for 2.5 hours for this ribeye and paid $40 for it so I expect a perfect steak. A couple minutes later the waiter came back and apologized for the way they cooked the steak and offered to buy me desert...I told him that I wanted him to comp the steak because of the inconvenience and he told me that he would let the manager know. Soon enough, the manager Norm came over. They took my steak an told me they'd bring out another one. About 20 minutes later, my steak came out and it was cooked medium-rare; however, the company I was with had already finished their dinner and I had lost my appetite from arguing with Norm. Norm then came back over when I got my new steak to see whether I was happy with it and offer me cake again. I reiterated that I wasn't here for the cake, that I waited 2.5 hours outside in the Houston heat and humidity for my steak, that they've raised the prices of their steaks and I would have gladly paid for a steak that came out to my liking but it didn't, that I was upset and that his actions had ruined the occasion that I had been there to celebrate, and that I expected him to comp my steak. He said if I didn't want it anymore, he would take it back. He then offered me cake again and we then nearly got into a heated argument in the crowded restaurant with he telling me that he was absolutely NOT going to comp my steak. I finally told him to leave the table and that if he wasn't going to comp it, I didn't want him there any longer. He left the table and my steak sat in front of me basically untouched until the bill came. When the waiter asked if I wanted the steak boxed, I asked him whether Norm had agreed to comp the steak. When the waiter replied ""no"", I told him that if Norm is going to comp it, then I'll pay for it and take it home but if he wasn't going to, I don't want the steak anymore. The waiter came back and told me that the steak had been removed from the bill, yet Norm still kept the steak and probably threw it away (hopefully they didn't re-serve it). The way I see it, Norm had 3 options: (1) he could have comped the steak and allowed me to take it with me or eat it so that at least I would have been compensated for my inconvenience, (2) he could have provided me with a gift certificate to induce me to come back to this restaurant and to prove to me that they're better than what happened tonight, or (3) he could have refused to comp the steak and stick to his guns, thus making me pay for the steak and take the steak home with me. Instead, he chose the worst option, option (4) - this option entailed throwing away 2 steaks (the first one that was cooked improperly and the second one that he refused to both comp and let me take home). By his actions, he not only threw away two steaks, but didn't get paid for either one of them, has lost myself and my family as customers forever including everyone that I tell about this horrible experience (we used to be loyal customers), and has caused me to write this review, along with others. This guy Norm doesn't know customer service from the back of his hand and I would not be surprised if the owners of the restaurant let him go - in fact, I hope that they do for the sake of their restaurant. more

Best steak in the country! 3/17/2011

I have been a patron of The Taste of Texas for about 15 years. In all of my many visits(from Beaumont.......worth the drive over!!!), I have never been disappointed! You will not find a better steak. The salad bar is always so fresh and the breads are delicious. Expect a wait on weekends but it is well worth it. more

One of the Best SteakS!!! 2/10/2011

Best Steak you will ever eat 8/27/2010

I have had the pleasure of going to many steakhouses throughout the country, and this is by far the best. It is a combination of the phenomenal steak, the value and the service. You will not find a better steakhouse in Texas or outside of it. more

Best Bang for your Buck 8/4/2010

Pros - Great Food at a Great Price -- The salad bar is unrivaled by other Houston Steakhouses Cons - No reservation system, long waits, loud. more

Taste of Texas Journey 7/27/2010

Came here for lunch and sampled the restaurant's lunch menu. The service was fantastic and the food was surprisingly flavorful. I really enjoyed looking at all of the Texas history adorning the entire place. Great place to take anyone visiting. Definitely go for the salad bar - well worth the money. more

Amazing steak! 1/13/2010

I have been to taste of texas only once but during my visit, I was well impressed by their amazing steak and service. I am originally from New York and it was wonderful to try delicious food from Texas. The only con is the price but it is well worth it! I recommend taking your family for a nice dinner here! Pros: Good service, wonderful food more

Great breads, steaks and deserts!!! 12/27/2009

The salad bar has been revamped but still lacks much. It offers mostly the basics while charging almost $10.00 for it. The steaks are great, the breads are great, the deserts are great and the service is great. I've been a fan for at least a dz yrs going there several times a yr. Hope to see it continue to prosper. I don't understand the negative reviews. I can only believe it must be for the owners political views. Those negative reviews are completely unwarranted. It's too bad people have to bring politics into the mix and lie after, I'm certain, enjoying a great meal. The prices are in line with most other steakhouses in Houston. I will continue to enjoy their foods in the future. Re/ the wait for seating: no reservations equals a long wait and that's only because the place is great, otherwise people wouldn't be coming back. While you wait they offer free soda and tea drinks as well as chips and salsa, and popcorn; where else does one get that? The service has ALWAYS been prompt whether the restaurant was 1/2 full or full. Everyone that I have taken there has loved it!!!! Pros: The very best breads, steaks and deserts in Houston Cons: puny salad bar more

Lifelong customer confounded by mixed reviews 11/24/2009

This locally owned restaurant has been a favorite in my native Houstonian family for over a decade. We always go there for special occasions (birthdays, graduation, etc.). Sure there are no reservations, so you have to wait, but they have a huge comfortable waiting area with a bar, popcorn to snack on, and plenty of TV's to watch, if you're not the type to converse with your party. The prices are high, but they would hardly be in business if they weren't, given the quality of the food and the entire experience. Pros: Amazing steak, sides, salad bar, and service, Cons: The chocolate covered strawberries are SEASONAL! :( more

STAY AWAY...SAVE YOUR MONEY 11/19/2009

The place is a tourist trap, plain and simply put. The steaks don't come near Pappas Brothers, Flemings, Capital Grill and etc. The salad bar is the only redeeming value. It's amazing the place does so well, except for the fact it plays off the TEXAS motif. Don't waste your time or money, you can get the same quality at Salt Grass for half the price. YES, I said Salt Grass, that Fertittatized chain that has a much personality as Jack in the Box. Cons: PRICE, WAIT, QUALITY more

adequate food; much is wrong 11/19/2009

This place is too expensive in light of the quality of food. This place is oddly popular, making the no-reservations policy tremendously oppressive. And it's very ""suburban"" in the worst ways. Pros: food is OK Cons: several more

Great Restaurant 10/12/2009

This is the best restaurant that we have been to in Texas and the California Bay area. Yes, it will be a little more expensive, but it is of the highest Quality. It is hard to cook an almost 2 inch ribeye perfectly and they did two for us. The crew was great and quick to serve. I judge a restaurant's cleanliness by how clean their restrooms are. TTR was one of the best in the cleanliness, which was also confirmed by the cleanliness of the kitchen when we selected our steaks. Pros: High quality food, fantastic service and very clean more

Lifetime customer, but will NEVER return 10/6/2009

If I were rating the food, I would give it 4 stars; however, my latest experience was so bad that Taste of Texas has lost a lifetime customer. Website says ""family-friendly,"" but it is NOT. If small children are a problem, this term should not be used. Apparently loud obnoxious salesmen are not a problem, because the table next to us carried on as much as they wanted. Pros: great steaks Cons: rude, not family friendly more
