LOVE T.o.Tx. My favorite steakhouse in Houston. The meat is always super juicy and cooked to perfection! I cut my Filet with a fork last time! Waiters really know the menu and can...

Worst

Taste of Texas is good food but for a steak I would recommend Lynns STeakhouse off of Dairy Ashford. It is excellent service, food, and the setting is quiet. Alot of companies a...

Worth a visit!!! 10/3/2002

Steaks melt in your mouth. The selection of breads is wonderful!! more

Simply the Best 10/1/2002

Absolutely the BEST! I have tried nearly every steak in town. Those who say Taste of Texas is not worth the money, then go on to say that Pappa's is better, need a reality check. Taste of Texas has the best steaks in Houston. Tender and flavorful. The quality of the meat is second to none. Thanks Taste of Texas! Pros: Flavorful steaks, Great Salad Bar, Ambience Cons: Parking, Crowded more

$30 steaks and plastic flowers??? 9/28/2002

Mediocre food - mediocre service - definitely NOT worth the wait or the pricetag. more

A Star amoung Stars 9/16/2002

Houston has some terrific steak to offer. However, Taste of Texas is remarkable. You can select your own steak or allow your serve to make the selection. Everything my party (4 of us) tried was exceptional. As a matter of fact, their menu states that they bet you have never had better (and can prove it). more

DOESN'T TAKE RESERVATIONS--PLEEEASE! 9/11/2002

I just can't believe someone would go to a place and get TAKEN like this. A great steak is wonderful but a great steak at these SOOOO stick-it-to-you prices and WE DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS attitude ---no thanks! In fact I'm a good cook and I can match these flavors for....oh lets see 10% of what they charge! I can't beleive they are even in the top 10!!! Pappas, Ruth Chris, Mortons--all take reservations and don't abuse your time!!--all beat out TofT hands down!!! A restaurant that doesn't take reservations says a lot about what they think about their customers!!!--Arrogance Okay the steaks are good but NO place is good enuf to make me wait 1-2 hours!! A managers apology doesn't give me back my 2 hours wait time! Pros: location, great scent Cons: over-over-over-priced, THE WAIT! PLEASE!!!, A has been--boring! more

Ambience means best steak? 9/11/2002

I am a fan of Taste of Texas and have enjoyed their Texas ambiance for entertaining guests for a long time. However, to say that their steaks are the best in town is just not true. They do have good food and the salad bar is impressive but the quality of meat isn't what you would fine at the more traditional high-end steakhouses i.e. Ruth Chris, Morton's, Pappas etc. I would also say that I've gotten cuts of meat at Outback that have been much higher quality than the ones at Taste of Texas. Good place to eat, yes. Best steak in town, no. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Price more

Bad night at the NOT SO Taste of Texas 9/5/2002

I went with three friends. I had a short wait with a helpful bartender. We ordered. Forty minutes after finishing our salads, our waitress finally explained our meal was late due to large parties. Ten minutes later, a manager noticing our delay offered complimentary desserts explaining our meal would be another 8 minutes. Ten minutes later, we caught the manager and our food was delivered after this. One steak was over-cooked, another under-cooked, to be sent back and was still unsatisfactory. The others were bland. The food was mediocre, the staff was inconsiderate and rude. I will never dine in this facility again. Pros: good bartender Cons: mediocre food, rude staff, untimeliness more

steakacious 9/3/2002

There has never been a time in the 10 years we've been choosing the Taste of Texas as our favorite restaurant, that we did not have a delicious meal. We stop at the Taste of Texas on our way to the ballet, birthdays and just because...We go there for any and every occassion we can think of. The atmosphere is out of this world. The Wait-staff are quick and eager to help, so you feel good leaving a decent tip for the college-age adults. We love it at the Taste of Texas. Better than the steaks we make at home. Pros: you can bring kids, delicious steaks, fresh salad/bread Cons: closed during lunch more

Its the best steak in town 9/3/2002

The steaks there are great. They have great taste, and are cooked to perfection. This steak house sould be number one on anyones list. Pros: great food, great setting, great service Cons: expensive, bad parking, crowded more

Out of site!!!! 9/3/2002

Love the service. I know it takes awhile to be seated, but it's worth the wait. more

Of course it is! 9/3/2002

Ever since I've been in Houston for the past 14 years I've always considered The Taste of Texas to be the ultimate in steak dining. When I was younger I knew a few people that worked there, so I knew what went on behind the scenes. To this day I love The Taste of Texas and hope to return there soon! Pros: great food, great workers, great management Cons: a little noisy, parking more

What a loss 8/30/2002

Inconvenient; less than pleasant clientele and waitpersons. In general, not an acceptable venue for dining. more

By far the Best of Texas 8/30/2002

You will not get any better service than at Taste of Texas. It is well worth the wait no matter how long it is (enjoy the bar area with popcorn, nachos, etc.) The steaks are the best in Houston and the state for that matter. The atmosphere is beautiful (especially at Christmas). Their salad bar and bread are beautiful and massive (be sure to save room for the main course). Don't forget that special person...order gift certificates for the holidays... Pros: salad bar, steaks, atmosphere, adequate parking more

Best in the west. 8/15/2002

We have never had a bad steak or bad service.Servous is obviously first on the Manager's list. more

Can't be beat! 8/13/2002

I've tried all the high priced, ala carte steak houses that claim to be the best, but they are no better than Taste of Texas. This place is twice as big as the rest, have huge crowds, and still manage to turn out a great steak at a decent price. While I can't quibble that some places are fancier and have cigars and such, this place serves a quality piece of meat at a fair price. Try it...you won't be disappointed! Pros: quality of food Cons: crowded more

Yummy! 7/30/2002

Waited about 1hr 15min for a table, but free chips/salsa, popcorn, soda/tea were great (even if the chips were waaaaaaay greasy!). Our waiter was superb. The salad bar had something for everyone and the bread bar was delicious. The melba toast they brought to the table was a bit confusing, but forget that... there are... the steaks! We split the porterhouse for two, served SEARING hot on a cast iron plate. Tasted almost too clean, though, and could have used more seasoning. Pecan Pie to DIE FOR! Birthdays and anniversaries get free dessert w/ sparklers! Pros: great ambiance, not stuffy Cons: pricy, nightmare I-10 more

Even waiting for your table is good! 7/24/2002

Con: Don't take reservations Pro: Get FREE chips, popcorn, and soft drink while waiting for dinner! Oh ya, and the steak is great too! I took my fiance there, and we shared a porterhouse to make this experience great in our tummies and my wallet! Pros: Food, Salad Bar, Bread Cons: No reservations, a bit noisy at times more

What's missing? 7/10/2002

The food is good. The service is good. The atmosphere is pleasant. But somehow it is always a very sterile experience. Pros: food is good, service is attentive, nice facility Cons: a little bland, sterile more

Restaurant Connoisseur 6/27/2002

Best steak for your money, excellent service. People that write they had a bad experience should get a manager and I assure you they will make you happy. I have known the owners, Ed and Nina Hendee, for years and they will not let an unhappy customer out the door, they will do whatever it takes to make them happy. Neat experience, huge place inside w/ nice TX decor, huge waiting area with free drinks and popcorn, excellent steaks, what other restaurant has all that? Pros: Great service, Great Steaks Cons: Long waits, No reservations more

Well worth the wait..... 5/29/2002

Taste of Texas fits the classic Yogi Berra saying, ""Nobody goes to that restaurant anymore... it's too crowded."" The place is always packed for good reasons -- great food and probably the best service you'll find on the West Side. This is a big place and the quality is comparable to Brenner's or Sullivan's, but it's not as cozy. A good place to take in-laws who don't like you -- it won't change their minds about you, but it will give them one less thing to criticize. For a business lunch, get there at 11:00, or be prepared to wait a while for a table. Approach from the I-10 inbound feeder east of the tollway. Don't try to take the Gessner exit from I-10 inbound to make the immediate right turn into the Taste of Texas driveway, or you'll get killed by the heavy traffic on the feeder. more
