LOVE T.o.Tx. My favorite steakhouse in Houston. The meat is always super juicy and cooked to perfection! I cut my Filet with a fork last time! Waiters really know the menu and can...

Taste of Texas is good food but for a steak I would recommend Lynns STeakhouse off of Dairy Ashford. It is excellent service, food, and the setting is quiet. Alot of companies a...

Too long of a wait for too tough of a steak 2/21/2008

I'd heard about this place for years and finally had a chance to dine there with friends and was sorely disappointed. We were there on a Tuesday night and it was very crowded and loud. Cocktails were watered down and the service was chaotic (waiter was watching a movie on a child's laptop at a neighboring table). I ordered the porterhouse which was the toughest steak I'd had in years. I would have a very hard time recommending this to anyone and probably won't go back unless someone else who is paying the tab insists. Pros: Good wine list. Cons: No ambience, like dining at McDonalds. more

No reservations and not TRUELY natural tender steak 2/20/2008

I use to be a big fan of this place.. I love the salad bar and soups and my husband loves the steak. The customer service is usually great except when i called to make reservations for 2 for 730 the hostess was like you dont need to make reservations then when i asked her ""are you sure? is it normally slow?"" she yeah its busy but you can come in and wait, and im like i just asked you to make reservations. shes like well were bz at that time but if you could come in around 5 that would be great. im sitting here thinking to myself i get off at 5 and on top of that that is 2.5 hrs earlier then i planned to eat then shes like well if not we close at 10 so come in around 930 and there is no wait. then finally shes like we dont take reservations for under 10. i even offered to put down a deposit to guarnteed that we would be coming. i know this place isnt romantic but geez give me a break. i told her dont worry about it. in all honestly there salad is great but there steaks are not that gooD. IF YOU GET IT ON THE SIZZLING PLATTER GET IT UN KNOTCH MORE RARE BC THE PLATE COOKS IT MORE. (TEHY FAIL TO TELL YOU THIS) ALSO I COULD MNEVER UNDERSTAND WHY THEYRE FOOD GAVE ME THE CRAPS UNTIL ONE DAY I ONLY ATE TEH SALAD.. TEH REASON BEING---THE PUT MEAT TENDERIZER IN THEIR STEAKS! SO THERE STEAKS ARE NOT NATURALLY TENDER. I AM ALLERGIC TO IT AND BREAK OUT IN HIVES AND ITS LIKE MY STOMAC IS DYING OF FOOD POISIONING BC OF IT BUT THEY DONT TELL YOU THEY PUT THAT IN THEIR FOOD ETIHER. THIS PLACE IS GREAT FOR VEGANS.. FOR THEIR SALAD BAR AND IF YOU HAVE A BIG PARTY, NOT GREAT IF FOR ONLY 2 PPL. Pros: GREAT SALAD BAR Cons: NO RESERVATIONS FOR COUPLES AND THEY PUT MEAT TNDERIZER IN THE STEAKS more

Awesome!!! 2/11/2008

This is one of the best steak houses in town serving Angus beef. The salad bar is second to none. The atmosphere is more family style than stuffy steak house. more

Used to be good - now it's a rip-off living off of a formerly good name. Avoid. 2/7/2008

More than $10 per drink is simply ridiculous. It took the guy about 12 minutes to make 2 margaritas and a pina colada-that's inexcusable. That ice shaving machine you've got is silly, slow, and loud, especially since bartender is inept. My wife complained that her drink tasted like ice water, but when she saw the look of disgust in my eyes when I thought of going to get the drink remade and missing another ten minutes of my birthday party, she backed off. Mumzy complained that her pina colada had no liquor, and my margarita was bland and had no liquor. Pros: Beautiful, impressive place, museum decor. Cons: Waaaaay overpriced, lousy, slow, inedible. more

Great Food 2/4/2008

The food, the service, the atmosphere is very very good. The salad bar gets a little crowded, but the wait is well worth the array of choices from salads, cheeses, and my favorite, breads. The waitstaff was polite, very helpful with selection choices, and very attentive. Worth the price. more

Yet to be disappointed. 11/8/2007

We first tried Taste of Texas when a friend from out of state visited and wanted to go. We were pleasantly surprsied then, and have been thoroughly pleased ever since. Being a meat eater, and a huge fan of steak, I won't settle for the run-of-the-mill (fill in your own chain steak house here) steak. The steak is phenomenal, and the rest of it is great (but you really go for the meat). It is expensive but well worth it. The desserts are awesome too; but with hardly enough room left over after our meal, we usually take it home for later. (just a note: you get one free desert if you are celebrating a birthday...including a polaroid of the birthday person) more

DO NOT GO AFTER 9 BETTER YET EVER THE CS IS TERRIBLE 9/11/2007

I have been to this restaurant before and had a fairly decent experience, this last time I do not know what happened. The service was good and the waitress was really attentive, however I have had better FRESHER food at a steak house. The lobster sucked, was over cooked and had a nasty charbroil taste to it. The steak was full of fat and not cooked properly. Lets not talk about the stuff they try to pass off as butter (think heart attack to-go) it wasn't melted and didn't melt with a little help. Basically what seemed to had happened was someone ordered the same steak and lobster (earlier that day) and they did not want to get rid of it. Pros: The waitress was very attentative Cons: The customer service is not good, the food is expensive and prepared good. more

Big disappointment! 8/9/2007

I'd been wanting to try this place, but am so sorry that I did. The experience begins with a nightmare of a parking lot. It took my husband 20 minutes to find a spot. The worst part, though, is the food...it is flat, boring and completely without flavor. The salad bar is tiny and uninteresting, the prime rib thin and leathery, and the sides completely tasteless. Even the cheescake tasted frozen. For the same price I'd go to any of the other fine steakhouses in town, Pappas Bros., The Striphouse, or even Smith and Wollensky. One mildy redeeming thing was the wine. We had a nice reasonably priced cabernet that we enjoyed. #36, I believe. The service was also slow and borderline rude. After an hour wait, we were shown to our table and I asked for a highchair to put my infant seat on. The hostess chastised me and refused to give me one saying it would tip over and pushing two chairs together was safer for the baby--fine if that's their policy, but don't comment on my parenting choices please. There was a much nicer way to approach this. Overall a bad experience we won't be paying for again! Pros: Nice wine list Cons: Awful food, way too expensive for the quality more

Amazing steaks without the pretense 7/23/2007

I hate getting dressed up to eat but I love excellent food. Taste of Texas is the answer to this dilemma. It's so good, I stopped swearing off red meat. The prime rib is divine. DIVINE. It's perfectly roasted, tender, juicy, and melts like butter in my mouth. I don't understand how people order an appetizer, with a salad bar and bread bar, it's enough to almost make me full. I can never finish the side item that comes with the meal. I've only been here twice but it's been consistently good. I waited an hour (in their convenient waiting room) without complaining because I was more than happy to waiting longer for the taste of perfect steak. Pros: Fantastic food, nice waiting area with snacks, Cons: Parking during busy times, more

Taste of Texas 12/4/2006

If you are looking for atmosphere and an excellent steak, Taste of Texas is the place. The decorum is Texas flavor with a flair. This place is a wonderland at Christmas. I absolutely love it!\r \r The food is exceptional quality with home baked breads, fresh salad, fantastic burgers and totally attentive service. You can even choose your steak from a special display window at the back of the restaurant. The have many fine wines to choose from and a bar where you can sip your drinks before dinner.\r \r It's somewhat more elegant than an average steakhouse and although dress is nice casual, I felt more comfortable wearing something more dressy. \r \r All types of customers are welcome including couples, families, business people and dinner parties. A slight drawback is that it is a bit pricey. \r \r You have to enter the restaurant from the feeder road of Katy Freeway and follow a winding drive into the parking lot. Parking can be difficult during their busiest times and sometimes it's best to more

awesome beef 11/17/2006

My friends and I love a great steak and we have been here a couple a times and it was good I was not all together please with the wait to be seated and we had a reservation for a birthday. the service is good once we got to our seats. I think for the price you pay that when you take the time to make a reservation you get seated when you get there not 25 min and they could make the bar more accessible for those people that are waiting or have a waitress help with taking orders Pros: The cuts of the meat was good the price Cons: The wait time is awful more

Great value 11/8/2006

This restaurant is a great value for the money. You can even choose your own steak from the display case by the salad bar. more

good food but pretty pricey 11/6/2006

I went here because I got a gift certificate- I wanted to try it because I had never been here. Walking it, it was a bit surreal- I have never seen so many people waiting in one place. That said, there is a great waiting area with snacks and drinks, and the numbers go up on a screen so they are not constantly yelling out people's names. We had to wait, but they have a nice bar area and we were actually seated before we were supposed to be, so that was nice. The salad bar was fun- probably my favorite part of the menu. Our steaks were pretty good, but priced exactly the same as the steakhouses downtown, which I thought was a little excessive. I enjoyed my meal, but I wouldn't pay that kind of money without the gift certificate at this place- I would go to one of the many many other excellent steakhouses in town. If you have someone in from out of town and want to show them something very ""Texas"" I would say this would be a good place to go . Pros: pretty good food Cons: price too much for this food more

Great food, but crowded. 10/22/2006

The food here is wonderful! We went early on a Friday night, so there was no wait. It did get crowded, and loud. I didn't mind because the food was so good. The salad bar is great, and the mozzerella bread--to die for! Didn't get around to dessert, but they looked good. Maybe next time! more

Texas Landmark 8/15/2006

This is simply the best steak in town. I love the food here and the restaurant has a great atmosphere to eat in. If the steak doesn't impress you (which I doubt will happen), then the salad bar has to. This place is one of the best places for salads. They have a very courteous staff and incredible food, what more can you ask for? Well, they let you tour the place and many schools have field trips here because they consider it a landmark. This is the stop you should not miss out on. more

Amazingly vegetarian friendly 8/7/2006

My steak-eating friends loved this place - the beef was apparently top-notch (they actually allow you to select your cut of beef if you are so inclined) and the side dishes were delicious according to them. You can order a very small cut (6 oz) if you don't have a huge appetite.\r \r I really enjoyed the salad bar they had here - it was excellent for a steak house salad bar.\r \r This is a fairly classy place with nice ambiance. PROS: Great salad bar, apparently has great steaks too CONS: more

Good but expensive 8/7/2006

This place always have great food and service. They know how to treat their customers the right way. I am a bit frustrated at the increase in the prices as I'm sure most customers are. I think I'll lay off steak for a while until the prices come back down. A great place for having a good time. PROS: Great food and service CONS: expensive price more

You get what you came for 7/22/2006

Anyone that wants to complain about a wait at the Taste of Texas, go to another steak house then and let me have your table!! The wait is long because the steaks are exquisite and everyone loves them. Nothing can compare to their filets, bacon wrapped with some garlic butter, its well worth the wait. Some people complain that their chicken dishes are sub par but guess what its a steakhouse, why go to a steak house for chicken! I would suggest sitting in the bar area, I always am well taken care of in the bar and the bartenders are always very helpful. Pros: Bar area, steak add ons Cons: service, hostesses more
