Horrible Service and Overcharge many times Before Found 6/26/2009

As a frequent customer, I can't believe that they overcharged me many times before I found out. If you are millionaire, go ahead. They try to flutter you before you pay. The owners of the sun-ya won't like you if you pay according to your bill. I never go back this place again, NEVER! I am surprised they still open the door. \r CHEATING !! AVOID!\r Pros: food ok Cons: Horrible Service and Overcharge many times Before Found more

Good service, decent food 3/30/2009

Sun-Ya is, sadly, one of the few decent places to get dim sum in the International District. I've been here many times, most recently last weekend, and I've had nothing but good service every time. Perhaps the other reviewers simply had bad luck? It HAS been two years since the last review was posted. The food itself is merely good, not great, but it's dim sum so I won't complain too much. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Great service 5/5/2008

First time I've been to this restaurant was 2006. I went there with my parents and we were kind of happy to spend two hours in this restaurant because people who work in this restaurant are really friendly. Two years later, I come back to this restaurant with my husband, everything are still the same except they have some major re-modeling inside the restaurant. Honestly, chinese dim sum are all taste the same as long as they are hot and fresh, the only thing I love this restaurant is because those people in this restaurant are really friendly especially the old manager, he always try his best to help out his customers even if he couldn't speak in English. Also, this restaurant has their own parking lot, so that you don't need to search around to look for a street parking any time. more

Worst Service ever!!!!!!!!! 5/9/2007

I've been here 3 times. First time was for my uncle's wedding and the service was quite well and the food was delicious also. So we decided to come in for a second time. Turns out they only give you good service during special occasions like wedding. We got our seats and they threw the napkins on our table and instead of placing down the chopstick slowly, the guy slammed it on the table and shoked my whole family. We were sure that we had not done anything to him pisssed because we were just seated. But we sorta turned it away and try to enjoy our lunch. Then we decided to come again the third time for my nephew's birthday party and this time no one seated us. And we came in at a non busy time and there were tons of waiters doing nothing. So we stood at the foyer waiting to be seated for more then 5 min, then we decided that we would seat ourselves. We waited for another 10 minutes and no one showed up to help us at all. The waiters 8 waiters were just setting up te dining area. So we decided to get up and leave. And when we left 5 people also left with us who came before us and had gotten no service either. If you like the food at Sunya you might just want to go to New Kowloon, much better tasting food for cheaper price and definitely 10 times better serice. I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE EVER EVER EVER AGAIN! Pros: Ok food Cons: noisy, bad service, dirty more

Disorganized dim sum 1/29/2007

After a dismal dim sum experience the day before, my husband and I were looking for a ""do-over."" We came across this bustling place and had high hopes. Overall, the food was ok to pretty good, with good variety. There could have been more flavor. I don't know if there were new cart pushers or what, but the experience of getting served was almost comical. The carts only went down one section of the restaurant. Just when you thought that steaming cart full of food was headed down your aisle, it disappeared into the kitchen! Many grumpy, hungry folks on our side of the place. The cleanliness factor left much to be desired and was a real turn-off (dirty tablecloths, floors and a really grungy bathroom). With more attention to aesthetics, cleanliness and service, this place could have scored higher. It has potential. Pros: variety of dishes Cons: ambience, cleanliness, service more

Want GREAT SERVICE? Come here!! 8/17/2006

I'm a big fan of chinese food and dimsum and have tried MOST of the chinese restaurant in seattle chinatown. I can say for sure that SunYa has definitely given me the best service EVERY SINGLE TIME i go there. Which is really good compared to the other restaurants i've been to continously, no matter how busy they are they always make sure your glass is always filled with water and your requests executed efficiently at a short amount of time. Parking is a hassle during lunch hour around ChinaTown but this restaurant has it's own parking lot and a very nice and friendly valet who will be more than happy to park your car for FREE. \r \r When i want to catch some dimsum before going to work, I always go here because i can count on the fast service in order for me not to be late. I've had horrible experiences with restaurants taking forever to get to your table and bad service. \r \r The food is great, almost the same as around the chinatown area but the dimsum portions are bigger than normal. Bigger siomai, shrimpballs than honey court and house of hong for sure. The prices are realy good too, we had 4 people and paid around 30 only. Pros: Excellent Service, Good food portions (dimsum), Good Parking Cons: Needs a little remodeling. more

so-so dim sum 1/7/2005

Felt the dim sum was average at best- Nothing was special, and some was downright blah..and served not warm. In all fairness, we tended to grab everything they brought by early, instead of waiting for better things to come along. My advice, pace yourself and something good will probably arrive. The atmosphere is pleasant, but the place could use a deep cleaning! Pros: Nice atmoshphere, Friendly staff, Affordable Cons: , A little grimy more

The Best Dim Sum 12/31/2004

I have had plenty of bad experiences with Chinese restaraunts, and with Dim Sum, but I found Sun Ya to be a welcome change of pace. The building itself is kind of old, but the dim sum was fantastic, and for 2 people, we ate for $20! The old man who works there is very sweet, and really helps customers out. This restaraunt is the first choice we go to for Dim Sum now. Pros: price, food, service Cons: , crowded more

Outstanding Live Seafood! 5/15/2003

This place is a gem! In addition to having really swell dim sum, Sun Ya has incredible live fish and the best service in Chinatown! A team of highly professional, very nurturing waiters will take care of you all evening. Ask your server to escort you to the fish tanks and suggest something delicious! I highly suggest that you try the Geoduck (giant Northwest clam). It comes in two courses; salt and pepper with deep fried tofu and poached on a bed of steamed bean sprouts. The lobster is also to die for. Try course one as sashimi and the main course steamed and fried in ginger and scallions. Sometimes they have exotic live crabs flown in from different parts of the world. They also have eel, turtle and fabulous live steamed shrimp! Enjoy this best kept dinner secret. Great bar to boot! Pros: Outstanding Service, Outstanding Live Fish, Superb Dim Sum more

fab dim sum! 11/25/2002

The foyer looks a little scary when you first get there, and dining room itself is a tad run-down, but eating there is worth it. The food is very good, especially for a first-timer like I was. We have since tried other restaurants in Seattle that also serve dim sum, but we keep coming back here. Three people can eat themselves silly on a Sunday morning, and still get out of there for about $35. In other words, dont let your first impression be your last! And let them park your car, otherwise you'll never find a spot if you get there after noon. more

Excellent and real dim sum... 8/25/2002

The seafood is very good (ranging from flash frozen to just fished out of the tank on the freshness scale) and the dim sum is very authentic as evidenced by the number of Chinese that you will see here. I'm surprised there aren't more reviews of this place because it is the best dim sum so far that I've found in Seattle. Not the level found in Toronto, Vancouver, or Hong Kong but on par with Ottawa. Pros: Authentic, Fresh seafood, Good Parking more

Eww... I'll never come here again!! 5/28/2002

The place is dirty. The last time i went...there was someone's lipstick on the cup. Do they dun wash the cups??? This is sick...Dun come here!! more
