Best

the upstairs room is fancy. This is a test page. I'm checking out your application. Trying to get 100 words. Pros: love the pizza Cons: expensive

Worst

Out of a group of nine of us, only 4 were happy. The pork tenderloin was dry, we were given the wrong drinks (Makers Mark instead of Frangelico -surprise, ack!), and the bill was ...

Is Definitely Closed - Sad for All 6/16/2009

You probably shouldn't try to have dinner here considering that this restaurant no longer serves customers. :( Pros: Used to be awesome Cons: Now is closed more

Still Open? 6/2/2009

Isn't This Place Closed Now? Am I wrong? I enjoyed their cocktails............... I also liked the raw wood bar. more

Fantastic Bistro menu with a Twist. 2/2/2009

Great ambiance and friendly staff at this downtown Bistro. The menu is creative and changes regularly but the best aspect is the price. You must try the Mushroom and truffle risotto. more

Always great food 10/9/2008

You must try the risotto! It is amazing! Always find something new on menu that appeases my palate. If restaurant is full try the bar. They serve food as well. more

above and beyond..really 7/28/2008

me and a friend of mine were trying to decide where to eat on friday night and i mentioned starlight. she thought we would have a problem getting a table but i talked her into it. soo glad i did. it was the best dinner i have had in so long, simply perfect. my friend started off with the warm spinach salad, i had the mussels. it is so nice for a chef to do something different with mussels, everyone does the same old white wine garlic shallots lemon juice, witch don't get me wrong i love, but these were amazing. they were steamed in heffewizen and goat cheese with a little tarragon, wow. after that we ordered a bottle of wine witch our very knowledgable server recomended, he was great and very handsom by the way, anyways the wine was perfect and just like he described it.we finished off splitting the grouper that the server said was brand new to the menu and it was perfect, summer vegetables citrus butter and jasmin rice, really good. we did not have room for dessert after that but we did move to the bar for a night cap and had a delicious fresh kiwi martini. over all we loved the place and ill be back next time im in town. thanks starlite more

Really good food and a nice place 7/22/2008

We were happy (and suprise) on Sat night I called at 730pm and got reservations at 8:30pm. Sure it's summer but the economy has definitely opened up seating in our favorite places. more

Delicious! 6/21/2008

For my first dinner out in our new hometown of Austin - I picked the Starlite and took my (super picky) friend. I checked the menu online before we went just to get an idea of their cuisine and it everything sounded fantastic - creative and inventive, but not too strange. We got there a little early and figured we'd have to wait at the bar until our reservation, but the very nice hostess said she could seat us right away. I immediately liked the overall vibe - cool and understated. I should mention we moved here from Dallas and I have an extremely low tolerance for anything that smacks of pretension. Service was attentive and smart. My friend has very specific likes/dislikes and she was looking for a certain tasting wine. Our server suggested one for her to try and it was right on the mark. We started with two appetizers - the heirloom tomatoes & the mushroom risotto. Both were fantastic. We shared the salmon entree - it was just seared on the outside, nice & tender on the inside - yummy! Fresh peach cobbler topped off the meal. Overall, Starlite exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be back! more

great desserts 6/12/2008

The desserts here are really good. the place is beautiful and the staff very friendly/ I would recomend this place to anyone Pros: great desserts Cons: crowded more

Very nice.... 3/11/2008

I took my daughter out to eat on a Saturday night, but we didn't have to wait very long for our table because she had made a reservation. It was disappointing to be seated in the back room at one of those tiny two-people tables pushed up against the wall. The fact that I could see one man sitting in the main dining room at a big fat four-top all by himself for a whole meal made me wonder if he had better connections than I do. Plus, he was almost the only thing I could see from my vantage point, but whatev. Our server was helpful and attentive. The manager was nice and made sure that we got the exact kind of wine that we wanted. We did drinks, apps, entrees, wine, and yes even dessert....hey it was her birthday dinner. If I go back, I will DEF request to be in the main dining area. It's a beautiful place...from what I could see. more

Amazing Dinner 3/5/2008

My wife and I were celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Starlite last week. We had been to their old location on 34th street, but we don't go downtown a lot. The new location is so elegant, with the wood planks above the bar and the chandelier in the dining room. We called ahead and asked for an intimate table, and the manager recommended the upstairs lounge. It was just what we wanted for a nice, quiet dinner. They have another bar up there with couches to relax and enjoy an after dinner drink. Now, the food. For starters, we tried the risotto, which is one of the best in town. After that, the warm spinach salad, which I have to say thankfully hasn't changed since the old location. The main course we tried the Striped Bass, recommended by the waiter and the Beef Tenderloin, which rivals any steakhouse around here. The dessert we tried was a flourless chocolate cake that melted in your mouth. I can see why they moved up on the top ten list. Our dinner was exactly what we were looking for, and we are going back, not just for a special occasion. You will love it as well. Pros: Amazing Food and Cocktails Cons: Use Valet Service more

Yeah, the food was alright 2/25/2008

To make the story short: My fiancee and I went to Starlite. Sat at a table in the bar, just wanted some apps and a glass of wine. Waited nearly 10 minutes for someone to come over (many employees walked by many times). When bartender came over and asked what we wanted we had to ask for menus. He walked away and did a couple of jobs before coming back a few minutes later. We ordered 2 apps. They came out. We asked for silverware. We waited a few more minutes. The risotto was better than most. Pros: ambience, food is good, wine list more interesting than most Cons: amateur staff/service more

Best meal in a long time 9/1/2007

Several friends of mine introduced me to Starlite this week. I had heard mixed reviews but wanted to try for myself. I am so glad I did!! The ambiance is fantastic to start with. Good music, pretty people (both guests and staff alike), sassy bar. And then we sat down to our table. Our server, Cory was very knowledgable about the food and the wine. He offered a daily special which was a poricini mushroom dusted tenderloin. I couldn't resist. I ordered the Warm Spinach Salad which was good, but under seasoned. Following the salad, my perfectly cooked tenderloin arrived. It was tasty, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. My friends ordered the Tomato Caprese salads which were fresh and tasty. For their entrees, one friend had the duck breast and the other had the veal t-bone. We all moaned with delight at our plates. My friend that ordered the duck had never tried it before and today- she is a huge fan. We will be returning to Starlite often in the future. I hope I will be able to try something different than the tenderloin-- but it was so good that if they have it again, I might just order it again. :-) Kudos to Starlite and their staff. We had a lovely evening! more

Starlite: Great food and drinks, especially for the $ 8/30/2007

I have taken a few people to Starlite now, two of whom were my not-so-trendy parents and we had one of the best meal experiences I have had in a while. My parents seemed to loosen up more than usual, I think in part because of the great food and drinks, our knowledgeable waiter and great management who saw to it that we were as comfortable as possible. More recently, I took a friend of mine to Starlite for her birthday. We went during the 4-7 happy hour and the bartender was great and put up with our indecisiveness with no moans or grunts. We split the bbq quail and the halibut both of which were amazing. I would recommend Starlite to anyone who wants to go downtown without their wallet getting robbed. Pros: Great food, great drinks, great location more

Exquisite food and warm ambiance 8/29/2007

I love Starlite, and had never been until recently. My friends had been talking about it forever, and I now know why. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful in helping us select our entrees, which were fabulous. The menu is eclectic and awesomely creative. I would recommend the grilled tuna, which was absolutely perfect. Even above the exquisite food, my group felt welcomed upon arriving because of the warm ambiance. Great service, great food, overall a great time! Pros: Service, food, atmosphere more

Great Service, Better Food 8/29/2007

I was in Starlite last weekend and enjoyed one of the best meals I have ever had in Austin. We started with cocktails in the bar, and Ben makes the best mojito in town. When we sat down for dinner, our server Cory explained the menu and the specials. He also picked out the wine to go with our choices, and they matched the food perfectly. We had the scallops and the spinach salad, both of which were delightful. We then had the filet special and the lamb. The filet is one of the best I have ever tried, but the lamb was so unique I went to Whole Foods to purchase some. We were to stuffed for desert, but next time I will not pass those up. The ambiance of the place was elegant, but not stuffy. We will for sure be back soon. more

Appauling 8/28/2007

I've never written a review of a restaurant before, but after the experience I had at Starlite this past weekend, I feel compelled. Ambience, service, menu all started off well. After placing our order, our salads were brought to the table with a HAIR on my friend's dinner roll plate. We told the waiter and tried to laugh this off and continue to enjoy our meal only to find TWO HAIRS at the bottom of my Caprese Salad - after I had already eaten most of it. YUK! Our waiter was very apologetic and told us that he would send the manager to our table. We waited at least 10 minutes and no one came. We left. About 10 minutes after we left, the manager called my friend's cell phone (used to make the reservation) to try and apologize. His excuse was that he was in the kitchen trying to get our entrees out. Did he really think we were going to be able to eat them?? It goes without saying, we were hugely dissapointed and grossed out. more

Great drinks, dinner and atmosphere 8/17/2007

Six of us went to dinner at Starlite last Saturday night and it was a great experience. The drinks were delicious, the food was amazing and the service was perfect. There's a wide range of options for dinner from vegetarian to fish to red meat. My favorite thing was a Pimm's Martini. Not many people even know about Pimm's let alone include it in a featured drink. more

Cool atmoshpere 7/25/2007

I got to choose a place downtown for dinner and chose here because of the atmosphere and the reputation for being trendy. The place was intimate, which was great for a date, and we got a nice table. Everything is cool about the place but the service is sooooooo SLOW!!!!! We probably sat there for 20 mins before the waiter came over. After placing our appitizer order we waited another 45 mins because the waiter forgot and didn't come by once to check on us. Pros: Trendy, cool location and atmosphere Cons: Very slow service and food was only average more

What happened? 4/9/2007

I have loved Starlite, and found it to be a great option for nice, upmarket downtown dining. It's not typically too stuffy and the food, in my experience, has typically been a stand out! So, when I went recently for a 30th birthday party, I was SORELY disappointed by both the food and the service. We had called three weeks in advance to make a reservation, and were promised the semi-private upstairs lounge for our group of 11. We were very prompt, and ordered soon after sitting down. Most people ordered a started and an entree, which turned out to be a disaster. Neither the appetizer or main courses were brought out at one time, so we had people waiting upwards of 10 minutes for the entire table to be served before starting to eat, and when it came time for the entrees, one dish was just NEVER BROUGHT OUT (it was especially bad that the woman who never got her food was pregnant). We ended up having to cancel our desert order to make the rest of the night flow on time, and we were just overall very let down. The food was over-salted and not cooked well at all to boot. Pros: Trendy, fun place downtown, willing to work with big groups Cons: Spotty service & food quality more
