For my first dinner out in our new hometown of Austin - I picked the Starlite and took my (super picky) friend. I checked the menu online before we went just to get an idea of their cuisine and it everything sounded fantastic - creative and inventive, but not too strange. We got there a little early and figured we'd have to wait at the bar until our reservation, but the very nice hostess said she could seat us right away. I immediately liked the overall vibe - cool and understated. I should mention we moved here from Dallas and I have an extremely low tolerance for anything that smacks of pretension. Service was attentive and smart. My friend has very specific likes/dislikes and she was looking for a certain tasting wine. Our server suggested one for her to try and it was right on the mark. We started with two appetizers - the heirloom tomatoes & the mushroom risotto. Both were fantastic. We shared the salmon entree - it was just seared on the outside, nice & tender on the inside - yummy! Fresh peach cobbler topped off the meal. Overall, Starlite exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be back!
