Best

the upstairs room is fancy. This is a test page. I'm checking out your application. Trying to get 100 words. Pros: love the pizza Cons: expensive

Worst

Out of a group of nine of us, only 4 were happy. The pork tenderloin was dry, we were given the wrong drinks (Makers Mark instead of Frangelico -surprise, ack!), and the bill was ...

the place to go for fab food+ service! 2/28/2007

I recently had an amazing time at starlite. I frequented their last location and was excited to check out the new space. I was thrilled to find it was even better than before. The salmon was cooked perfectly the waiter was helpful and the hostesses were friendly, gracious, and fabulously dressed! I'm looking forward to having my birthday dinner there in one of their private dining rooms. Love it! Pros: staff, service, great ambiance Cons: i wish there were more more

Brunch was good 1/26/2007

We went to Starlight for brunch on Sunday during our trip in town and it was good. I was a bit miffed when the hostess wouldn't seat us when there were empty tables in the back of the restaurant. She also looked like she just finished working out to the 80's. None the less, french toast was good and the eggs benedict were to standard. We also has some bancock eggs which were interesting. The food is a little over priced but a nice atmosphere once we go through the door. Pros: Good food Cons: Little pricey, hostess was not a good first impression more

EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE FOR FOOD COMING OUT OF THE KITCHEN 10/31/2006

Extremely slow. Seems to be the kitchen. They can't get food out. If they are having a private party, the rest of the diners suffer. We had reservations at 8:30pm on a Thurs. About 4 other tables were occupied. Ordered at 8:45pm. At 10:10pm finally asked where our entrees were. The waitress apologized and said there was a party upstairs which was causing the delay. Entrees finally showed up at 10:20pm along with the manager who told us he was sorry we didn't know Starlite was a ""slow dining restaurant and to expect to spend 3-4 hrs. there"". I don't mind lingering over dinner, and I hate being rushed, but any place that forces me to wait for my entree for over an hour is not a slow dining experience, it's just slow. Pros: Good food and small portions Cons: Kitchen very slow getting food out; do not take a group there they are not equipped for groups more

Delightful menu and if you love gourmet cusine! 9/3/2006

My friend and I were seated which is quite romantic with lighted tables. We sat and ordered the special which is a cold type of soup delicious and Lamb dish. The waiter is knowledgeable about the menu and suggest the salmon. It is a friendly and warm. Pros: wine Cons: parking more

This type of place is why I love Austin... 6/14/2006

Starlite has inventive, sophisticated food without a hint of stuffiness. We went on a Thursday evening with my parents to celebrate a special day. It was our first visit. We were all impressed. Our waiter, Michael, nailed his recommendations. Be sure to ask for him; he was outstanding. My only quibble is the wine list - it seems extremely heavy on the pinot noirs, but has only a couple of cabs. Not that I don't like pinot, I just think the wine list isn't well balanced. Food was delicious with interesting little twists to keep things exciting. We will definitely be back! Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Food Cons: Typical Warehouse District parking hassles, just valet more

Exquisite Environment 5/16/2006

I ate the tastiest soup at Starlite last night. It took everything in me to keep from licking the bowl. The crab appetizer was delightful. The wait staff is not only knowledgeable but also fun and sexya beautiful redhead helped me find the perfect wine to complement my meal. My sister and her friends enjoyed the exquisite private dinning area. My sister had a very memorable Birthday Dinner. Pros: Fantastic Food, Good Drink Selection, Divine Design Cons: Valet is a must more

still really great 5/15/2006

I have been dining at Starlite for years now. I am one of the many that was sad to see them leave their old location, but I do have to say that everything there is still wonderful. The food is some of the best in Austin and while the restaurant is a lot different overall, I have had nothing but great experiences there. My waitress the last time was highly knowledgeable and a sweetheart to boot. The main dining room can get a bit loud, but try the lounge upstairs if you'd like something more intimate. All around one of my all time favorites. Pros: food, service, wine list Cons: noise more

Lowered Expectations 4/29/2006

If you enjoy overpaying for mediocre food and getting some of the worst service available downtown, this is the place for you. One piece of advice though...bring a snack and a flask with you because the food takes forever and the drinks are short poured. Pros: Location, Fast Seating Cons: Service, Food Timing more

Our worst meal in over 2 years 4/25/2006

Getting drinks was very slow. Menu was not as planned. There was only one waitstaff to take orders and with 26 people that took about 25-30 minutes. There was a major delay in getting food out, which was compounded by the fact that there was some kind of crisis in the alley that the chef had to get involved with. The salads alone were delayed for approximately 45 minutes (after the orders were taken). The Romaine salads were considered bad, the cod was not hot enough, the pork chops were tough, and the potato dish with the pork was just bad. The dishes used to hold the appetizers were very heavy and were difficult to pass. Cons: Long wait, Bad Food, Complaint not handled more

Overrated - Good Food, Slow Service 3/31/2006

This upscale-wantabe place has an interesting ambience. Theseating was good, the food good, once it got there. I went at lunch time and it was not busy and it took a long time. We only ordered salads. Maybe they were understaffed in the kitchen. more

New Location, Still Great 3/7/2006

I really enjoy Starlite's new location -- the space is amazing, plus they have a great upstairs bar. I do miss brunch, though! Pros: Inventive Cuisine, Ambiance Cons: Parking more

Never Disappointing.... 11/15/2005

I've had the pleasure of dining @ starlite several times and I have to say, it is my favorite place to take people or suggest when asked for a dinner recommendation. True, it is a little pricey but definately worth it and even when the service is not exceptional (as is the case with ANY restaurant) the ambiance and food will make up for the wait. Try the spinich salad (unbelievable) or any other menu item and I know you'll agree. The drinks rock and are made with ONLY fresh juices/ingredients. I LOVE STARLITE and cannot recommend it enough..... Pros: Quality of food, drinks, atmosphere Cons: Kind of pricey.. more

good food, but tiny portions 10/13/2005

The food was excellent, but there was not enough of it. For $12, I expect more than 5 ravioli. Service was pathetic. Decor is nice, but it was loud (former Gilligan's location). Pros: Great food Cons: Expensive, Tiny portions more

A celebration of food. 12/22/2004

This was my fourth visit to Starlite. Never a disappointment, this most recent visit left my companion and myself in awe. We indulged in the Fried Oysters for an appetizer..superbly paired flavors and textures. The Maytag Salad was priceless; perfectly dressed. Both entrees were superb. The Ahi Tuna paired and a delicious cassoulet turned out to be the perfect marriage. Our server was prompt, attentive but not obtrusive and provided helpful information in our choice of wine. We would give the chef and the staff a standing ovation. Pros: excellent menu, great service, pleasant ambience more

excellent food 5/20/2004

The food at Starlite is excellent! The portions are not huge. It was enough to fill me up but the protions were small for my husband. The setting can either be romantic or loud...depending on who else is dining. The dining rooms are small, it is an old house, after all. Dinner for two was over $100. This is a place we reserve for special occasions. Even though the food is wonderful, considering the portion size, Starlite is not an every day kind of place. Pros: excellent food more

Wow :( 9/14/2003

Imagine a middle aged family group, a group of 8 rather boisterous thirty somethings, and us..all in the size of a small bedroom. I didnt know who to be more angered at...1. the restaurant for assuming that a couple would appreciate sitting in the lap of a group of rowdy's or 2. the fact that these people were out of hand. Seems like they would know to NOT seat a couple next to a large group who will usually be loud by nature.... The food by far is the draw for me here. I am somewhat non impressed by the intimicy of the dining arrangement. You have to remember you are eating in a small house so I guess you cant escape noise if its there... All in all, service was good, food was good. Just be wary of your dining area :) Pros: Food, Service, Romantic Cons: Portion Size, Noisy if near group, Mojitos...alcohol? more

Starlite 9/9/2003

After hearing about Starlite for years, I finally was able to try it out for myself. The vegetarian lasagna was amazing. However, I thought that the portions were too small for the price. And I usually appreciate smaller portions, but when I'm shelling out $70, I'd like to leave with a full satisfied belly. It was really good, I just wanted more of it! Pros: changing menu, great tasting Cons: too expensive, portions too tiny more

GREAT food 4/12/2003

it was the best EVAR!!! everything was perfect...yep. thats really all i have to say. Pros: company, food, service more

Nice Place But... 3/17/2003

Out of a group of nine of us, only 4 were happy. The pork tenderloin was dry, we were given the wrong drinks (Makers Mark instead of Frangelico -surprise, ack!), and the bill was inaccurate, even after several revisions. Plus the SXSW-ers are made to sit outside and givin slow service. Very dissapointing. Pros: nice atmosphere, clean bathrooms Cons: overpriced, small portions, slow service more

small small small 2/25/2003

I ordered the New York strip with fois gras butter and expected a fabulous meal. When the steak arrived, it was not a New York strip. IT WAS HALF OF A NEW YORK STRIP! What nerve. I guess if they said ""1/2 New York strip"" on their menu, nobody would order it! more
