Best

Small, cozy, and homey with a very friendly staff and quick service. I went on a rainy Sunday and was a bit...

Worst

After coming to this place for a year now, and telling a million people about it, I went for breakfast a couple times about week ago and was extremely disappointed. Both times. \r...

New Breakfast Alternative 11/4/2006

I went yesterday for the first time, and tried one of the baked egg dishes with greens and grits. The mustard greens added just the right touch of heat; the grits melted in my mouth. I thought the portion size was perfect: not the huge mounds of food you find elsewhere. I left feeling satisfied, not stuffed. I'll definitely go back again. Pros: Lots of menu choices, Service, Ambience more

Disappointly Average 10/25/2006

I love cafes that are great for lunch and keep on serving breakfast long after usual breakfast hours so I went in with high hopes. The place has a nice unassuming comfortable vibe and our waitress was pleasant and helpful but... the food was just average, the plates of food sort of skimpy and the price was way too high for what you get. And how about this for a supposedly low key neighborhood feel: my cobb salad was served with a side of the smallest amount of dressing I've ever seen, a spoonful maybe. I tried to make due but after eating a third of it, the salad was just dry... so I asked our waitress if I could perhaps have a little more; she happily retrieved a second small helping... and guess what? An extra charge was added to the bill. For a spoonful of extra dressing! Not very neighborly if you ask me. I could reel off at least a dozen places within driving distance that I would rather have gone to, that would have been more generous, more reasonably priced and most importantly: more delicious. Needless to say I'll go to any one of them next time. Pros: Comfy and low key, waitress was helpful and pleasant Cons: average food, stingy portion for too high a price more

Truly a wonderful dining experience! 10/17/2006

My family and I have visited everytime we've been in L.A. this year. For a relatively new restaurant, Square One Dining has it together!\r \r Great soup, great desserts and great sandwiches. Try the bacon on anything...\r \r The staff couldn't be better and more friendly and I'd like to call the owner my friend.. He's that nice. Pros: Price and variety more

Best Food in Silver Lake!! 8/7/2006

I have now tried everything on the menu and it is all fabulous! Best Burger in town! No attitude here! No trendy people waiting hours for a table. Just great food and friendly service and good prices!\r \r You gotta try this place! Pros: Food, service, value Cons: Hard to find parking on the weekends more

Best Eggs Benedict in Town! 6/16/2006

My friend introduced me to Square One, and I've been forever thankful! I went at noon on a Saturday and at lunch on a weekday and there was absolutely *no* wait. A rarity for those hours at other Silver Lake eateries which serve breakfast or brunch. The eggs benedict with salmon does not disappoint, neither do many of the other dishes. Omelettes are soft and full of flavor, and the accompanying potatoes are fashioned with a crispy exterior and soft, starchy interior; cooked to perfection. The staff cannot be nicer: no attitude, helpful as can be, and extremely friendly without being too eager. Square One is situated in a pleasant little space on Fountain just west of Vermont, right across the street from the Scientology Center. Don't be surprised to see uniformed Scientologists roaming the streets...Parking is metered. Hooray for Square One, a welcome addition to the breakfast and brunch scene in the 'Lake! Pros: Delicious, friendly, moderately priced Cons: None! more

BEST BREAKFAST RESTAURANT! 6/3/2006

this place is truly amazing! i go there every weekend for my french toast with bourbon vanilla whipped cream and pecans, or delicious buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit. everything is basically to die for delicous! if you like eggs, they make great benedicts, omelettes and breakfast sandwiches, or even steak and eggs. they also have lunch options with yummy salads and hot and cold sandwiches. their muffins and cakes they freshly bake are awesome. i can't stress enough how good the food is, and it is soo cheap and affordable too. and the service is great. the people running the restaurant are so kind and polite. Pros: mouth-watering food, great service, so affordable more
