Best

So I orginally had been going to Tenpachi and loved all my haircuts/colors, but unfortunatly my favorite lady left and had to go to a new girl. I walked out looking like fraggle, ...

It's hit or miss with Sprout, depending on if the stylist you get deems you worthy of their time. Overall, the inflated prices are not worth the outcome nor the attitude of some i...

Horrible haircut, awful technique 7/16/2008

nice salon, decent hairwash and head massage. horrible haircut. Pros: nice decor, decent head massage and wash Cons: horrible skill, non-communicative stylist more

best haircut ever! 5/17/2008

i feel like every haircut i've ever received wasn't really a cut for my hair. but at sprout, they LISTEN. naomi was my stylist, and she was amazing. i have a friend who shampoos hair there, and she had told me i'd get a great cut, and she was SO RIGHT. not only does it look great on me- fits my hair, frames my face, etc.- it's easy to style and very cute. some of my friends literally didn't recognize me! and not only is naomi an attentive, talented stylist who listens to her clients and their wants/needs, she is very nice! the whole sprout experience was great too- i knew the whole time that everything was organic, which is awesome in itself, and i was offered things to drink and there were plenty of magazines to read. i never waited long or was forgotten about, and had a very easy time making my appointment. AND, i paid no more than what i would anywhere else. I AM NEVER GOING TO ANOTHER PLACE! :) Pros: ambience, service, staff, skill! Cons: there are none! more

Awesome Experience! Best Salon in Baltimore! 4/3/2008

Sprout is awesome! I've always had a really hard time booking appointments elsewhere. Sprout, however, was super easy to get booked and they didn't make me wait any longer than I needed to. The atmosphere is super chic and trendy. I had Leah cut my hair. Not only is she just a really great person in general, she did a fantastic job with my highlights and my haircut (not to mention the scalp massage was divine). Pros: Lots of off Street Parking, Talented Stylists, Atmosphere, Organic Products Cons: It is a bit expensive--cut and highlight was $150 (w/o tip) for me. However, this is pretty normal elsewhere so I can't complain too much. more

Fantastic haircut 2/12/2008

I finally found someone I can trust with my hair. No more ""white knuckling"" the arms of the chair. I had heard that Cliff was voted ""Baltimore Best Hairstylist "" and I can't agree more. My hair is easy to style, grows out great, no more bad hair days. Sprout is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. more

Friendly folks, bad haircut 2/10/2008

My experience at Sprout Salon was wonderful, except my haircut. I asked for one thing, and walked out with something completely different that will take a while to grow out. The products used were great, and the staff was friendly. I wish I had made an appointment with a different stylist, but it was a spur of the moment decision to get a hair cut! It seems that others have had a good experience here, but I don't think I'll be back in the future... Pros: Friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Cons: My hair is terrible right now. more

Sprout Salon 12/11/2007

I probably shouldn't admit this online but I am completely gray, and have been since I was in my late 20s. So I have been coloring my hair for many a year now, and it was with some trepidation that I went to Sprout for an ""all over"" new hair color. I went from blond to a light auburn, and have been really happy with the results. At first I was afraid that the all organic products would fade faster than conventional color products. I was happily surprised that there was no more fade with the organic product than with conventional. Also, my hair feels healthier, and the color process doesn't smell as bad. All in all, I highly recommend Sprout to anyone who wants a great cut and good color. Rachel is a doll, and so highly committed to her vision of a ""green"" salon, that her passion is infectious. So, all you middle age gals with more gray than you want - don't be afraid to go green! You'll be happy that you did. more

Fantastic salon! 12/6/2007

I loved the experience I had at Sprout yesterday! I just walked in, and Trina was able to see me right away. She took time to ask me what I wanted in the chair before shampooing me with a great scalp massage! Then she offered me tea, and gave me the best cut I've had in a few years! Pros: Great atmosphere and service more

Excellent haircut and a very positive atmosphere 11/30/2007

Rachel fixed an awful (seemingly unfixable) haircut that I had received in a different salon. She is truly an expert and will make sure she understands what you want before cutting. I have never received so many compliments on my haircut, which looked great by itself, without needing to use additional products to make it look nice. Pros: Service, Attitude, Experience more

Best haircut of my life! 11/20/2007

The people are uber friendly and truly know what they are doing! If you're looking for something funky/fresh go to Spout! I owe the best haircut/color of my life to Naomi! Its something different and worth checking out. more

Sprout is definitely something different! 10/24/2007

Normally, I do my own cuts. I think to myself that nobody in this world could possibly match my own vision of beauty and create something on my head that matches my personality. Well, I've just gotten shown up. There is someone out there... her name is Rachel. She happens to be the senior stylist and owner of this fabulous salon. I feel lucky to have even had the chance to sit in her chair, realizing how busy she must be. She gave me a truly short cut, like Annie Lennox, and then died a patch on the right side. They are the most beautiful organic colors... dark pink and teal. The color stays vibrant for a while and I wash every other day. The place smells like flowers and the staff treat all like family. It's a very loving vibe. Sprout is definitely something different. Check it out when your in town! Pros: superb skill, parking in the back, friendly atmosphere more

Fierce cuts, hot salon, great customer service 10/23/2007

I am extremely particular when it comes to someone cutting my hair. I have been to several salons in search of the perfect stylist. It had gotten to the point that I would have tightness in my chest before my monthly cut...and I think I'm easy going. Thank the sweet lord for Rachel at Sprout. She hooks it up every time. No more anxiety and I leave with a fierce cut. Hold up! How could I have forgotten the shampoo and scalp massage?! Unbelievable. Forgot to mention that I am somewhat of a product freak. I love trying new things. Sprout has a terrific selection of organic products. People this is no joke.....you need to check this joint out. Pros: always a sweet experience more

sprout ...baltimore's treasure! 10/23/2007

When I moved to Baltimore, I began asking around for a great stylist....Rachel's name came up 5 out of 5 times...I thought that was kind of odd actually! I guess Baltimore is a small town! I went on line and googled her and the first line that came up read.....""this woman is a genius...appt made! And I agree! more

Great experience!! 10/23/2007

I have been searching for a salon in which I can call my own for a while now and I finally found it last friday. I opted for the cheaper end and getting a stylist with lesser experience, due to the huge price difference. First off, they give you an AMAZING scalp massage with natural oils, it was so relaxing I didn't want it to end. The hair stylist I had was really nice, we had a great conversation, and she did EXACTLY what I wanted. I didn't have a picture but I explained to her what I wanted to do and it was like she read my mind. The receptionist was really nice and even asked if anyone wanted any tea or water. I recommend this place if you're looking for a hip cut, organic products and a fun atmosphere. Pros: scalp massage, friendly people, great style! Cons: parking is a bit difficult on the avenue more

I have to break up with Sprout 10/23/2007

I have been searching high and low for a great salon and a stylist who really knows what they're doing. After jumping around the area, I finally found Sprout and Rachael. I loved the concept - all organic products, recycled/natural interior design, funky stylists. I made an appointment two weeks in advance. I got a call about a week later asking to reschedule. No problem - people have lives and things come up. Went in for my cut and color and was, in a way, mocked for asking for something that apparently can't be done on my hair. $250 later, I was pleased with the cut, but the color didn't penetrate my greys at all. I'll try anything twice, so I made my next appointment for 5 weeks later. The day of the appointment rolled around and I got a call 30 MINUTES BEFORE my appointment asking to reschedule. Okay, this is getting annoying. I agreed to the rescheduled appointment for a week later. The next week I had my color done and it still didn't totally cover my grey hair. I just don't think the organic color products are up to snuff. I figured I'd have to go somewhere else for color, which is fine, but I did like the cut Rachael gave me. So I made an appointment for 5 weeks later and GUESS WHAT!? I got a call to reschedule. Enough already! I wonder how many other clients are getting the shaft? It's totally unprofessional. I don't know Rachael well, but she's more of a flighty artist than a business woman. Your customer service could really use some help. Pros: Organic products, funky neighborhood Cons: Constantly rescheduling, pricing!, hair color doesn't penetrate greys more

not a good cut 10/13/2007

An interesting concept salon, organic and such drew me to Sprout. When I made the appointment, I was told i would have a ""senior stylist"" the next day I showed up for my appointment and it wasnt the case. I was a new customer so I guess they took a little advantage and gave me a new stylist or haircutter...(or at least seemed like a new-bee). I went elsewhere to get it fixed. The exact thing I went in to have done, my thick hair thinned, the cut made it look thicker. I was going to call and see if they could fix it but didnt want them at my head again. I cant really blame the new cutter person, but management...advice: If you have a new person, that is cool...but let the customer know or keep an eye on them. Overall i was disappointed and wouldnt recommend this salon to anyone...and vibe there, is so so...the girl who washed my hair, massage was cool though. Pros: smells good inside, mohauked washer woman is cool Cons: bad haircuts more

Best stylist in Hampden...actually in Balmer, hon! 7/12/2007

Leah is WONDERFUL! I actually used the CitySearch site to find the best salon, and it led me to Leah! There had been some reviews on her work at her former salon, about her vision, her ability to match what you envision as the perfect hairstyle and what she envisions what would look good for each individual's face..and she did a PHENOMENAL job. I had straight shoulder-length hair, and now I have ""I'm-not-a-mom-of-2-teenagers"" hair anymore! So chic, so cute! Very Victoria Beckham (I brought a picture, and she nailed it!). The salon is gorgeous too: exposed brick, post-modern furniture (I agree, very Dwell), great organic products (did I mention she didn't use any products in my straight hair, and it looks gorgeous!), great friendly people. Hmmm...almost thinking about getting a tiny tiny tattoo at the new nape of my neck! Thanks, Leah, and see you in 5 weeks! Pros: Leah, clean, minimalist, organic salon Cons: yes, the parking..unless you park away from the Avenue and walk more

Absolutely FANTASTIC experience!!! 7/1/2007

Was looking for a major change, so decided to try this salon because it sounded different and unique. It was an absolutely wonderful experience from the moment I walked in the door. Pros: Clean, knowledgable, friendly staff, organic/natural products Cons: Difficulty finding parking, pricey more

Sprout is special! 6/30/2007

My sister suggested I try Sprout because she had received a great cut from the owner, Rachel, before Rachel opened her own space. This salon is in Hamden and it has a hip, friendly boho feel, like so much of Baltimore. I have naturally curly hair and so does Rachel. She wielded a razor like a warrior woman and I left with the world's cutest and most flattering bob and a brand new look. I live in Massachusetts and you can bet I'll be booking an appointment the next time I go to visit my sister. The cut is growing out beautifully-- a true sign of a great haircut. Who shouldn't go to Sprout: if you're uptight or entitled or freaked out by people with tattoos or piercings, or a right-wing Republican, just stay away. The employees will undoubtedly thank you. I'm 43, rubenesque, and without ink or anything pierced other than my earlobes, for the record. Everyone was friendly and professional. Great music, too. Pros: Rachel is a talented stylist and terrific person, great head massage while my hair was washed Cons: None really-- this was a $70 haircut and it was worth every penny more

Most talented stylist 3/28/2007

Actually, I have yet to visit Sprout Salon itself but had haircuts from Rachael when she did it from home. She's a great stylist... listens to what you want, pays a lot of attention to her cutting... makes you feel like you're getting your money's worth. more

cliff is truly the best! 3/11/2007

Cliff is forever my stylist. He just won Best Stylist in City Paper's Best of Baltimore issue and it really is the truth. From the way he handles himself on the floor with his clients, his appearance, and his gift with shears, to his tight presence as an honest to God professional. This kid knows what's up! I would suggest making your appointment now for the future- he gets booked fast. The head massage at the shampoo chair is an unbelievable bonus. Pros: top notch staff, beautiful atmosphere, Cliff! Cons: a bit pricey- but worth it more
