Best

Was referred to Lena by my friend Rafael. She is GREAT!!! Strongly recommend to see her for a great cut. Will refer others. Thanks, Lena. Great job! Next time, you teach me R...

Worst

I went here after reading the near-unanimous praise heaped upon it here and was sorely disappointed.

Great Value and Kristie is the Best! 8/24/2007

Just walked in for a quick trim and Kristie totally hooked me up! The place has a great vibe and fun atmosphere! She gave me a great cut and it was very inexpensive! Best Value in Los Angeles!!! Pros: Awesome Value! more

Awesome place! 8/3/2007

I stumbled across Shorty's when I first moved to LA about 4 years ago. I have never been that into my hair but now I won't go anywhere else... Earl ROCKS!!!! Cons: Parking more

Awsome stylist, great cut, fun and friendly place!! 7/20/2007

I went to Shorty's the other day, because my boyfriend goes there and recomended it. I loved the atmosphere: cool 80's music pumpin (U2 was playing), very urban industrial design, and EXTREMELY unprentious. I felt relaxed right away. I wasn't sure they did women's hair, but was I BLOWN AWAY from my experience. My stylist was Michael Colletti, a guy from Chicago, very good looking, VERY NICE, very accomplished as a stylist, and hands down...the BEST haircut and style I have ever recieved. Very precise and miticulous. He listened to what I wanted, gave me his take on how to achieve a great look for myself, and absolutely impressed me, plus a good conversationalist. I am for sure going back for color! This place is the best kept secret in Los Angeles. Girls....if you are tired of the attitude most salons offer, BUT, want a killer cut and color, and a great and FRIENDLY stylist...go to Shorty's, ask for Michael, and enjoy yourself. By the way, Shorty's client base is full of amazing looking, hot gay men....GREAT eye candy!!! Oh...this is big...IF you are a diva...stay in Beverly Hills. Pros: Don't need an appointment.. open late....you will have a great time Cons: didn't really see any more

Casual, gay-friendly style 7/9/2007

I'm probably an easy haircut as I'm not too particular, but that's fine for this place. Shorty's looks like a garage, on purpose, and the casual atmosphere extends to the greet staff as well as my favorite stylist. Good, standard haircut place for me. And they're cute too. more

Everything I wanted and MORE!!! 6/8/2007

Decided to check out Shorty's because of the word-of-mouth I'd been privy to, and I wasn't disappointed at all! I made an appointment, got there, needing a color, highlights, lowlights and a cut, and was promptly seen by Cherie. She was awesome...we tackled the color first, and she was quick to point out how much she liked my natural lowlights, and that it would simply be a waste of money to ADD them. Huh? When does a stylist try to SAVE you money? After getting EXACTLY the color I wanted, beautiful and shiny, she proceeded to give me the most gorgeous shag haircut I've received in my life...not an easy prospect because of the fact that my head is shaved underneath. She explained that she had once had the same hairstyle, so she knew exactly how to cut it, whereas every other stylist I've gone to has shied away from trying to give me what I asked for. Beautiful. Simply awesome. I was in and out in an hour and a half, she was great, and I paid $25 for the haircut and $90 for the color. A veritable STEAL, considering this may be one of the best haircuts I've had in my life. Pros: Great atmosphere, insanely low prices for what you actually get Cons: none that I can think of more

WOW 5/22/2007

Walked in the door of Shorty's after having my boyfriend tell me to get it my hair fixed after I had been to another salon. I was asked if any particular stylist, I didn't know anyone, so I was greeted by Paul, great experience, he knew exaclty what to do since I am helpless at my own hair. He even told me how I could get it to work every morning very simply. Great cut. Great Experience. PAUL'S GREAT!! Pros: quick and easy, cool atmosphere more

Great reasonably priced ladies trim.. 5/21/2007

I needed a trim today desperately...but didn't want to spend 80 bucks or more on it. I just need the dead ends yanked off the bottom. So, I looked on Citysearch and found Shorty's,...not too far from home, so I called and the nice gal on the phone told me that a couple of people were good at ladies hair and Trey happened to be working today and in I went. Well, I am really really really really happy. Trey did a great job! All the dead ends are gone...and my hair once again looks healthy and fabulous! And for $45 and no hassle with parking or anything of the sort, I got a great trim and blowout! Shorty's is my new hair spot! Thanks! more

Gilbert B. Works It Out 5/15/2007

So, I have that Asian hair that can be a challenge for a lot of haircutters in the Hollywood/West Hollywood area. Gilbert B. hooked it up. Knew just what to do. It's rock & roll, it's fresh, it's tight. I honestly havent liked a haircut this much in a long time. I can definately recomend this barber/stylist. You can make appointments with him in advance too which is cool cause I dont like to wait around. Props to G. ! more

Gilbert ""B"" rocks! 5/7/2007

Okay, so I have to agree with another post regarding Gilbert. After moving to L.A. 5 years ago, I trolled the basin for my new hair cut person at countless salon's and barbershops. After a friend recommended Shorty's, I was amazed. Gilbert knew exactly what to do and how to work with my hair, and I consistently walk out feeling confident and knowing that my hair looks great. The atmosphere is fun, the people are always nice, and besides getting a great cut, I get a great diversion too! I could go on and on, but I'll let you read other reviews. Cons: Parking may be challening with the new construction beginning across the street, but that shouldn't deter you. more

BEST BARBER IN WEHO!!!!!! 5/5/2007

I MUST SAY I HAVE THE BEST BARBER!!! GILBERT IS THE MAN. I HAVE VERY DIFFICULT HAIR TO CUT SEEMS NO ONE COULD GET IT RITE FROM THE $8 SHOPS TO THE $ 50 SHOPS. I WALKED INTO SHORTY'S AND ASKED FOR A SENIOR STYLIST AND GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH GILBERT. SAT DOWN AND WAS A LIL' NERVOUS AND HE PUT ME AT EASE! THE CUT CAME OUT PERFECT!!! THANKS TO GILBERT I HAVE AWESOME HAIR!!!! Pros: GREAT ATMOSPHERE,GREAT MUSIC,FUN WALLS more

GREAT CUT 4/30/2007

Hi all!!! Pros: Good, friendly, quality, professional more

SHORTY's ROCKS!!! 4/19/2007

I've had the rest and SHORTY's is THE BEST! After spending small fortunes at other, supposedly high end facilities (from exclusive, one chair, private, appointments-3-months-in-advance operations to the best in Beverly Hills) I've found my home at SHORTY's...Do the ""DO"" and ask for DEE..... she is awesome! Precision cuts and reasonable prices - free yourself from Freudian delusions of BIGGER BUCKS (on hair) GETS MORE LOOKS! DEE Delivers - professional, consistent, and always HIP!. Pros: Best Value in town... skills of staff are equal to or better than places charging 4 times as much for a cut Cons: Front Desk could be more pro active in engaging new customers upon entering more

Great haircut, great vibe, great price 3/5/2007

This is an awesome place. It's always hard to find a hair stylist that you can count on in a big city and skimming the ads on citysearch isn't always the easiest way to find someone. But if you have the time and nothing to do, you may be lucky enough to stumble on a find like Shorty's. A totally hip, rocker spot a little north of the Melrose strip, metered parking is available. I called ahead half an hour and didn't have to wait. Lena cut my hair and she was amazing. Totally nice, competent, and friendly. The music was good. Cool pictures all over the walls. Just a chill and relaxed atomsphere. No hoity, toity people. I'm definitely going again and telling all my friends about it. more

KRISTY ROCKS! 2/13/2007

I have been going to Kristy for about 2 years now and always am happy with my cut. The cut always grows out well and I am always getting compliments on my hair. It is a very cool unpretensious atmosphere! Check it out! Pros: easy to get in more

Top rate cut, low rate price 1/18/2007

In sum, Kristie gave me an excellent cut, one of the best I've ever had. I usually stay home with a shaver and just buzz it with a #3, but this time I wanted to look good for an interview. I seriously didn't think there was much anyone could do with my lack of hair, but Kristie turned a #3 buzz into an actual hairstyle, one that my wife loved, and my 2 1/2 year old son keeps commenting on, ""Nice hair!""...don't yet know about the interviewers, but I FEEL GOOD with it, and that's going to count most. Pros: end result, staff, price, everything basically Cons: none for me more

Looove this place! 8/16/2006

So being a saavy girl from LA, I was a little hesitant to go to what I thought was a ""barbershop"" with more of a testosterone slant. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. I saw Travis, (my new best friend) and he definitely gave the ""Beverly Hills"" type of salons a run for their money (for a fraction of what I'm used to spending, mind you). I will never go anywhere else again! I'm hooked and tell all of my girlfriends to go. I even sent my boyfriend to see one of the barber's. Needless to say, Shorty's is our new ""spot"". Definitely check it out and you too will be thrilled! Pros: Staff friendly, no "Hollywood attitude" here. Cons: Parking my be limited at certain times of the day...bring quarters. more

best coolest cheapest haircut in LA 8/6/2006

I love this place. cool. hip. trendy. very DIVERSE. I love my girl Emma. She gives me the best haircut... she's a true artist! My boyfrield loves Caesar's cuts. Anyone you go to will let you have it with a fierce haircut though. 20-25 dollars and a very cool environment! more

A fine establishment 7/18/2006

I couldn't speak highly enough of Shorty's. They're courteous and professional and do a hell of a job with yer mop. Plus, they tell me you can't beat the price in West Hollywood, and I'm beginning to agree. Open late! Pros: Ambience, parking, service Cons: The decor may be a bit much for the uber-conservative clientele more

Cool place - great cut and value 1/23/2006

I went to Shorty's on recommendation from a friend after many bad cuts at the local Supercuts. Without knowing who to ask for I took the ""first availble stylist"". The place is very funky and cool - but clean. My stylist was very polite and after a brief description of what I wanted, gave me a cut that was more than I expected and the price was GREAT! Much better than your sterile experience at Supercuts. I would recommend them highly! Pros: quick service, fun atmosphere, easy parking more

A better-than-expected experience 12/30/2005

After spending some time on Citysearch looking at various barber/salon ratings I finally decided to give Shorty's a try (mainly because of the $18 haircuts and the fact that the Fairfax location is literally four blocks from my apartment). I called ahead to put my name on a list but was told that there wasn't much of a wait today. Upon arriving to the shop I was immediately seen by Cherie. Despite my being a complete moron in the realm of haircutting jargon I was able to fumble through explaining to her what I usually like to do with my hair. She replied with ""Alright, lemme do my thing."" Before I knew it I had a haircut I was actually satisfied with! It was even and just the right length. Cherie was very friendly and skillful. I will definitely return to Shorty's from now on. So long Supercuts! Pros: Value, Speed, Quality more

  • You can get a stylish 'do, the hottest color, or just find out what's going on in town at Shorty's Barber Shop.

A men's regular haircut is only $25, which is about the same price as the big haircut chains, but the industrial style ambiance (graffiti-covered walls, pulsating music, and tattooed and pierced staff) adds so much more to the value of your haircut. At that price, you can go every few weeks and maintain the perfect look.

Shorty's has won three WeHo Awards, been listed in the "Best of LA" guide from LA Weekly, written up in CARGO Magazine, and feature worldwide on CNN. The shop is high energy, exciting, and offers a hip atmosphere. Call when you're on the way to get your name on the list or just stop in!

Editorial
  • With its retro sign and candy stripe barber pole, this barbershop might look like an all-American throwback to the '50s, but step inside and it becomes obvious that this chop shop is far more than...
