Was referred to Lena by my friend Rafael. She is GREAT!!! Strongly recommend to see her for a great cut. Will refer others. Thanks, Lena. Great job! Next time, you teach me R...

I went here after reading the near-unanimous praise heaped upon it here and was sorely disappointed.

Fantastic Men's Haircuts - You Won't Be Disappointed 11/18/2008

I've gone to 3 different guys here and they're all great. My favorite guy, though, is Max. The service is quick, and the staff is personable. Most importantly, the cuts have been excellent. I used to go to an expensive stylist in Beverly Hills, but Shorty's is so convenient and so much less for the same quality. They take cash or credit, unlike other shops nearby, and I always leave feeling like I got a really good-looking cut. Pros: Convenient location, plenty of free or metered parking, quick and EXCELLENT cuts, cash or credit Cons: Can't think of any, honestly. I really like these guys, and I get exactly what I want. more

R U Cut?? 11/13/2008

Earl is the best men's cutter there is...hes worth traveling for and Shorty's is a great shop with a cool atmosphere. The whole crew at shorty's is fun and it is a circus worth watching...great people. Enjoy. Pros: hair cuts Cons: parking more

Worth travelling for!!!!! 11/13/2008

I always get Earl to cut my hair and make me look human again every time I am in town. He has an amazing ability to know what I want without me telling him! Definitely a miracle worker and definitely worth flying to LA for. I recommend him to anyone who needs a great cut and general manscape! The store is also a barrel of laughs, never a dull moment. Pros: Great staff Cons: Parking sux more

I am a cosmetologist not a barber, i have been in the buisness for 26 years.I pay attention to detail, I do gerat color services for men and women,I do relaxcers, great finishing work ,very good with the flat iorn.I enjoy everything from to conservative to progressive.I work with ALL ethnic hair textures.I am neither slow or fast.I like BEAUTIFUL work,I feel if you are wearing my work it is a reflection of me, advertisement for me , so I allways do my best.I am dependable and reliable.I am an expert with the clippers,or shears and I have a Master Colorist certificate from WELLA Institute USA.I love doing color,I am neither fast nor slow, whatever it takes to get the job done to everyones satisfaction.I dont talk a whole lot, not the overly chatty type, however I do love to sing while I work, and sometimes I break out in dance, Yes. I love what I do, so come on in and let me do your hair! See you soon. Miles more

Bad butcher job by inexperienced barber 9/22/2008

My fiance needed to get a haircut. He has curly hair, so it requires skills to cut his hair. I found Shorty's to have good review on citysearch, so I told him about it. I called ahead to put his name on the list and told the person on the phone that we needed someone who was good with cutting curly hair for men. When we got there, they gave him Maria, who is a really sweet 23-year-old girl, but completely inexperienced. She did not do whatever he instructed her to do like not cutting too much off on top. She made his hair uneven around the crown. The haircut was $23, and out of pity for a young girl, my fiance still gave her $5 in tip, so she probably had no idea he hated his haircut. When we got back to the car, I asked him how he liked the cut, and he said he was angry that he got a hatchet job. He said he cringed every time she started to cut his hair as he could see she was taking out too much. If you want to insist on trying Shorty's, you should ask for an experienced barber. Avoid Maria or any other like her like the plague. I have nothing against Maria, and like I said before, she was very pleasant and sweet. However, who wants to get a bad haircut in exchange of having some small talk with a sweet girl? Not me! I will never try Shorty's since I don't want to get a butcher job. It might not be fair for the rest of the barbers there, but when you don't know who to pick, and you can't make an appointment, then you're at Shorty's mercy. They might give you someone who is really bad, and then your hair pays the price. Men's hair is not as bad since men have to get a cut every 3 weeks anyway, but for women's hair, a bad butcher cut will result in 3 months of bad hair days. Yikes! By the way, so many people recommended Travis on here, but I found out that if you want to have Travis cut your hair, it will cost $100. For him, you can make an appointment. more

Won't take my hair anywhere else. 8/26/2008

I've had one short experience at shorty's but well worth my time is an understatement. i signed up with citysearch for one reason and one reason only; to praise the stylings of one Mr. Travis. I walked in with hair that remained untouched by professional hands for about a year. The choice wasn't made out of desperation, rather a string of bad hair-cuts. I came in off a referral from someone who has had their hair colored and cut by Travis for years, and her hair color is the best I've seen. Natural to a T and completely complimentary. Pros: Incredibly skilled stylists Cons: If you want the Beverly Hills Hotel, go there. more

Choose your stylist wisely, recommendation enclosed 8/21/2008

I recently read a bad review of Shorty's (among the many good ones). And I must say I've had both good and neutral experiences -- all depending on the stylist you get. Pros: One of the best stylists in town works here, fun atmsophere more

5 stars? I don't think so--one's more like it. 8/12/2008

Wow--where have all those 5 stars come from? Tried this place because my regular guy seem to be slacking off a little--now I'm going back to him. Went to Shorty's based on this site and took my passport Pros: Quick in and out Cons: Maybe to too quick in and out more

Miles cut my hair and he was great! 7/10/2008

There's rarely much of a wait and it's just a cool, chill scene without any attitude. Sort of rocker and comfortable. Miles gave me a good cut-- very attentive to detail. Pros: Chill scene. No pretense. more

SEE ASHLEY! 4/17/2008

I saw a stylist named Ashley yesterday and she was amazing! The place is fantastic, chill and unpretentious and quite a bargain. I asked for a clean cut, conservative, but not too conservative (I work in a rather conservative environment) and voila! I love it! Slightly edgy, but still classic in shape. It's a no nonsense salon. I love that. I've been looking for a good stylist in LA that wouldn't rival my monthly grocery bill and I believe I found it. Ashley is professional, welcoming, thoughtful in her work and just talented. She's got quite an eye. If you're looking for a good haircut, I believe this is the place. I couldn't care less for the uppity atmosphere at various places in Beverly Hills. See Ashley! She's so chill. Pros: Talented stylist, down to earth, no nonsense place more

Not at all what it is hyped up to be 4/16/2008

I went here after reading the near-unanimous praise heaped upon it here and was sorely disappointed. more

Love this place and especially hair dresser named Michelle 3/24/2008

came here yesterday for the first time, wanting a big change with my hair. I called ahead asking for someone who could do bangs and was told they had just the person. got to shorty's, had to wait a little bit but the wait was worth it. Michelle was my stylist. I told her i wanted bangs, and she took it above and beyond and I ended up with the cutest cut I've ever got. She totally didn't try to upsell me like so many places did, instead agreed that if I didn't get my hair blown out, it'd be much cheaper, and told me upfront how much my cut would cost (it was $35 which was well worth it). Loved this place and the ambiance. will definitely be back. Pros: Friendly, talented staff, big space, felt like they cared what I wanted Cons: could use air conditioning--was really hot more

The Only Salon ANYONE should go to. 3/21/2008

I love this place! It has not only the best stylists, colorists and receptionists! It has a great location, look, feel, environment, reputation and hot owner! Pros: Location, Staff, Price, Look, Feel, Environment Cons: There are none! more

GREAT cut for a great price - Kristie is my favorite 3/6/2008

Kristie is a rock star. Love this girl - great haircut EVERYTIME. Used to spend $100 or more for a cut at places around WeHo, but her cuts are better and 1/4 the price. She totally listens to what you want and does that, or if you don't know, has made some great and fun suggestions. Pros: Good stylists but still cheap. Fun ambience, Pretty gay, but doesn't matter if you're not. more

Great Place! Ask for Michelle! 2/13/2008

I stopped by as a walk in for a hopeful quick trim and ended up staying for highlights too! I didn't know they did color but Michelle gave me the greatest haircut and did an amazing job on my highlights! I'll definitely go back!! Shorty's is a great place for men and woman, hair cuts and styles of all sorts! more

Brilliant ladies cut - ask for Paul! 1/31/2008

I'm new to town and was completely lost picking a new salon. So many pompous overpriced salons around LA! But I walked past Shortys one day - was the only girl in there too - and asked for a cut. I was sent to Paul and I am so so glad I was! He gave a wonderful cut, it grew out beautifully. He's professional and gets down to the business of cutting your hair rather than chatting endlessly. I can highly reccommend him! Pros: Great cuts for a low price Cons: Mens cuts can be off epending on who cuts it, my husband got butchered. more

Fast, inexpensive, helpful and stylish. 12/3/2007

I'm new to LA and needed a cut pretty bad. Not that my hair was super long, because it was by most people's standards pretty short, but it just lacked any discernable shape or style. I kind of looked like a Lego man. But I digress, I went to Shorty's because of the reviews here and I'm very glad I did. more

Ask for Michelle 11/16/2007

Got a great walk-in haircut on a Friday from Michelle. She completed a men's scissor-cut in less than 20 minutes and didn't even threaten to use clippers on the back and sides. For $20 you really cannot beat this level of quality and speed. Parking on Willoughby is not permit, so need need to pay for a meter either. Pros: Cool stuff to stare at on the walls Cons: The music is a bit loud (which makes talking to your stylist hard) more

ask for MAX and you can't go wrong 10/23/2007

This place lives up to the vibe of being comfortable and affordable with a funky shop that fits anyone's personality. The other thing is that you can get in and out quickly and get on with your day. Other shops of interest are just steps away. Ask for MAX, he gives great cut. more

Great haircut, fun people, a bargain at twice the price. 9/4/2007

I snuck in here wearing a pair of Gap jeans, some worn down D&G boots with a ratty t-shirt, figuring I?d get no love, I was SO wrong. I left feeling cute, fresh and happy - a bargain for $20! Pros: Fun people, nice atmosphere, rockstar haircut, didn't feel like a dork trying to explain how I wanted my haircut Cons: No valet parking (hey - I had to think of something :) ) more

Owner Message
  • You can get a stylish 'do, the hottest color, or just find out what's going on in town at Shorty's Barber Shop.

A men's regular haircut is only $25, which is about the same price as the big haircut chains, but the industrial style ambiance (graffiti-covered walls, pulsating music, and tattooed and pierced staff) adds so much more to the value of your haircut. At that price, you can go every few weeks and maintain the perfect look.

Shorty's has won three WeHo Awards, been listed in the "Best of LA" guide from LA Weekly, written up in CARGO Magazine, and feature worldwide on CNN. The shop is high energy, exciting, and offers a hip atmosphere. Call when you're on the way to get your name on the list or just stop in!

Editorial
  • With its retro sign and candy stripe barber pole, this barbershop might look like an all-American throwback to the '50s, but step inside and it becomes obvious that this chop shop is far more than...
