Fish to See, not Eat, Right on the Seattle Waterfront 8/4/2007

Nice to have the Seattle Aquarium right on the Waterfront. It is packed full of different exhibits AND hordes of tourists/families/kids. Rather confusing lay-out, like a rabbit-warren. Claustrophobic. I liked the Dome where divers feed the fish at about 1:30 in the afternoon, as well as the otters and seals. And the hall in which one can actually touch and feel the sea-slugs, starfish, and the stunning, chrysanthemum-like anemone. But for my money, a trip to the Woodland Park Zoo--mostly out in the open--makes the Aquarium pale in comparison, especially in summer, though, of course, we shouldn't be comparing... more

Showing it's age 5/9/2006

It's actually embarressing that Seattle - a major seaport city - has an aquarium like this one. Not even close to the caliber of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, located in Monterey, CA - a much smaller coastal city. The good news here is that the Seattle Aquarium is currently in the middle of a multi million dollar renovation and from the outside - it looks like they're making some major changes. I hope that they will gain space and better, more interesting exhibits. more

Seattle Aquarium 4/23/2006

They have a free exhibit that's just great! Walking along the waterfront, it's entertaining to just stop and watch the HUGE fish aquarium outside their entrance area. It's very enticing to go inside. Once inside, the admission is well worth it. There's a large variety of creatures to see. It's very informative, well presented, and a joy to be in. Prices are a buck well spent. Atmosphere is a-ok. more

Dont waste your money 4/6/2006

I know many people will probably not agree with me but I was not impressed at all with the Seattle Aquarium. We went there with the Citypass and were so happy that we didn't pay the full price for it. We got there at 4pm, which was 1 hour before they closed and we were in and out in no time. I think the best thing about the place was the gift shop. They do have a lot of fish so if thats interesting to you, you'll be happy. So my advice is if it's included with the Citypass, it doesn't hurt to look. If you have to pay full price. Skip it. more

aquarium 4/4/2006

I enjoyed my visit to this aquarium, but I did wish there was more to it. I was able to make my way through the aquarium quite quickly, but I always went first thing in the morning so there wasn’t a large crowd to contend with. One of my favorite things about this aquarium is that they allow you to touch certain animals; sea cucumbers, starfish and other types of anemones. Very neat! Also, I thought it was neat that it was right on the waterfront and incorporated the inside and outside together. more

Wonderful for kiddos. 4/1/2006

I love the otters, so that's where I spend most of my time when I go. There are fish, eels, octupus, etc. but I really don't see the Seattle aquarium as anything special. more

Not my favorite, but kids like it! 4/1/2006

We've been to the aquarium on many, many occasions. Great exhibits, but AVOID the summertime crowd. If it is a nice, sunny summer day, steer clear of the aquarium. It is PACKED. You will NOT enjoy it. On summer days, it is an assembly line of people filtering through the exhibits. On off season times, your kids and guests will really enjoy it. Make sure to check out the outside exhibit! more

The Safest Way to Introduce Your Kids to the Ocean 3/18/2006

This has been one of my favorite tourist traps since I was a small child. Because it is cheap and educational, it's a favorite for school tours, but it's best to go without being herded about with such a group, its best to go with your family. Tell your children what it means for you to see these creatures and to understand how they live. Let them spend more time than is necessary to see things, so that they may take in the experience and perhaps grow to love what they might not otherwise see in the ocean, and what might not be around for their children if we continue to destroy it. more

An Oldie but Still a Goody 3/18/2006

The Seattle Aquarium is no Monterey Bay but it is ours and even though it is showing its age a little kids still love it. There is remodeling going on now with parts being demolished for building a new structure. Also in the plans are moving the entrance, expansions and new exhibits. But don't worry, they are still open for visitors. Check their website for more info. more

For a great time with the kids 1/26/2006

This is one of Grace's favorite places to hang out. It isn't spectacularly big and you have to ignore the big stains on the floor and so forth, but because it is really just about the northwest, it is a fine place to go. What makes it super great is the location on the waterfront. The ideal day we've found is to head over there early, then over to Steamers for fish and chips (how ironic!), then there is a merry-go-round in the pier immediately to the south through the waterfront park. Play a few games of ball, then hitch a ride on the trolley (when it reopens!) and you have a great afternoon. Or head up to the Pike's Place market. This aquarium can't hold a candle to a true world-class site like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but it is great nonetheless. The best thing that I like is the part that explains the life cycle of the Salmon and they even have their own hatchery. The second best are the sea dragons. They are pretty amazing. more

Nice Aquarium 12/28/2005

The Seattle Aquarium is certainly one of the smaller aquariums I've been too. Understanding this the aquarium has done a great job of not trying to cover every possible aquatic species or area. Instead the Seattle Aquarium concentrates on the marine life of Puget Sound and the Northwest. They even have an exhibit on shore and tidepool birds. Yes, you don't normally find a bird exhibit at an aquarium, but it fits in nicely with the Seattle Aquarium theme of covering everything related to the Northwest marine life. Plus, they have the always popular sea otter exhibit. Check it out if you're looking for something to do one afternoon. more

I went to the aquarium yesterday and I must say that I was quite impressed with the exhibits and staff. There are tons of exhibits and hands on type things. A huge underwater aquarium, and tons of fish tanks and information about our native animals. This place was totally worth the money and I will be sure to come back! more

the best around. theres nothing else around 12/22/2005

its ok if youve never been else where. definitely overpriced, ive gone through the whole thing in under 1.5 hours. not that big either. plenty of parking across the street. no signature exhibits, not even much of local animals. gift shop well stocked and reasonably priced. About $12 to get in i think. more

Sea Creatures Galor 12/10/2005

This place is packed with sea creatures and you will fall in love with them the first time you set your eyes on them. It is crazy how you have this gap of interest in the aquarium, from 13-19 but when you get past that gap the excitement just comes rushing back! You will love the new additions to the aquarium, especially since they are going through a massive remodeling. more

Wow, I've gone here several times as a kid. Ever since the 3rd grade! It's an awesome place for kids. There are lots of hands-on activities and the animals are great! They also have a theater which is a plus. Admission is not expensive at all. It's located on the waterfront and is very easy to find. They have sharks, sea otter, octopus, and sea stars. Just great for kids in general, great for adults too. The staff is great, and it's pretty to navigate the aquarium. Check it out and write a review once you're done! more

nice aquarium 10/29/2005

There are lots of tanks to look in at the aquarium and little ones' interest can quickly wain. There is a discovery pool where kids can touch some of the marine animals. My kids love watching the octopus and the jelly fish. Their movements seem to be hypnotizing. Another good area for little children is a spot where kids can try on clothes divers wear. My favorite part of the aquarium is the underwater dome where you can see lots of marine animals native to the Puget Sound. It's also neat to be there to see the otters get fed. I think it's interesting to see how big seals are. I'm used to seeing them poke their heads up in the Sound. Their heads are tiny compared to their bodies! One drawback of the aquarium that I think is the nature of the beast is the fishy smell. more

Great! 10/27/2005

I love the aquarium that we have here in Seattle. This place is really the neatest place to go, whether you are a traveler or you live here. They have lots of different exhibits, including a hands on tide pool where you can hold the different sea creatures. My favorite part of the entire place is the seals/sea lions. They have the best personality and they will show off for you all day. I also like watching the surrounded circle of fish where you can actually go underneath the water level in a tunnel kinda thing and watch the fish interact. It is a great place for children as well as adults alike! more

very nice aquarium 10/8/2005

I love aquariums and zoos and I think that seattle has the best of both of them. The aquarium is located downtown on the Waterfront, overlooking beautiful Elliott Bay. There is a vast array of different animals and sea creatures here, including a giant Pacific Octopus which seems to hover in his tank, eyeing everyone with his oversized eye. The otter exhibit is fun and exciting, as are all of the tanks and reefs. Highly reccomended especially since it's on the wonderful waterfront, a place you're sure to spend inordinate amounts of time if you're visiting Seattle. more

your kids will love it! 9/24/2005

When I visited the Seattle Aquarium a long time ago I remember being not very impressed. However, I went back recently and had a very positive experience there. If I lived closer I would get a yearly pass, because it is a kid-friendly (mostly indoors) place to visit and revisit. There are summer family programs offered that sounded interesting, as well as the regular exhibits. The price is very reasonable. more
