Best

The Traditional Steak house atmosphere is preserved in such a comfortable way. It looks effortless but I think it is thru a lot of effort that their professional restaurant style...

Worst

Quality of beef is not great.... beef is a bit tough - but edible... and you get LOTS of it. Definitely not a ritzy place. Pros: quantity Cons: quality

Although the food was good, I was very disappointed based on what people had said about this restaurant. 11/2/2007

I am from Georgia and have been in Oregon for the last 3 weeks on business. During the last three weeks the majority of people I have asked about a steak restaurant have mentioned Saylers. I went there tonight 11/2/07 and ordered the 20 oz ribeye. Both the food and service were good, however I was disappointed. I asked that my steak be cooked at a medium, however it came back med-rare. I then sent it back and it was returned with 1/3 being cooked the way I wanted, 1/3 of it under cooked and 1/3 overcooked. Ryan's Steak House from the Southeast ought to move out here, then the people of Oregon would see how good steaks should be cooked. Pros: Iced Tea Cons: Thick steaks not cooked correctly more

Expensive prices, mediocre food. 8/22/2007

My boyfriend and I decided to go to Saylers because it was recommended by friends. Before we left, I did a little research. Out of all the restaurants, Saylers had the most reviews. Most of them were bad reviews but we decided to go anyways and experience the restaurant for ourselves and disregard what we read. We were seated right away and were given the relish tray and our drinks. I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon with a baked potato. Meantime, the waitresses did the swithcheroo on us without telling us. The new waitress gave us wrong salads to each of us. We both got plain baked potatoes with our entrees while I asked for mashed potatoes and he asked for a baked potato with the works. My prime rib was cooked medium rare and it was probably cooked for a mere 5mins. It was flavorless and I had to use A1 steak sauce which should not be needed for a prime rib. My bf's steak was just as flavorless. I tried adding the steak seasoning but that was tasteless. Overall, they give you a lot of food but the steak entrees were not worth the expensive price. I can get a better Prime Rib elsewhere for a lesser price. The food was mediocre but the waitress was very nice and helpful. Everyone makes mistakes but I was just not impressed with the food. The reviews were right about the soda refills. It took about 10mins for his refill while they asked me for a refill when it was too late. I had already polished off the water When I see a expensive price attached to a meal, I expect the food to be very tasty and worth it. Not sure if we are coming back in the future, but we'll see. Pros: Good service, leaves you feeling full, great ice cream by Sunshine Dairy Cons: Overpriced prices, mediocre food more

GREAT FOOD! WILL BE BACK! 6/24/2007

I was in Portland for business, and the Holiday Inn recommended Saylers. We went and had a wonderful dinner. THE STEAK WAS AWESOME! The service was great, and the seating was quick! Next time I am Portland, I will be making a stop at Saylers! more

Poor Service, Mediocre Food, Unconcerned Management. Avoid this place. 6/10/2007

After spending a four years out of the Portland area serving in the military, my family and I decided to visit Sayler's Old Country Kitchen at the recommendation of the Citysearch site. Boy, was this a mistake! Service at this restaurant was abysmal. Pros: Ample parking, fresh bread Cons: Poor service, unconcerned managers, mediocre food quality, dated more

Best Steak & Trimmings around! 4/25/2007

We really like this steak house! We keep coming back and back. When you want to feel like your getting enough food for your money, come here! You WILL NOT leave hungry! more

Hopping Service 4/1/2007

We were greeted with a server in a hurry. Greeted us with a dirty tray with our drinking water, silverwear, relish plate, sour cream, and butter. Asked us if we wanted something to drink or an appetizer. We ordered onion rings and a drink, and got our salads before our onion rings came. We had hardly touched our salads, when our steaks came. We felt rushed through our whole dinner. This server needs to learn the meaning of casual dinning. Great food? Did'nt have time to enjoy it! She also needs to learn at her ripe age, service with a smile. Will probably return. Pros: Good food, good prices. Cons: Felt rushed through dinner. more

Never had the pleasure 1/19/2007

I am so glad I found this review site!!! I can't review about the food because we(my husband and daughters) were not able to dine there. Pros: Close to Taco Bell Cons: The worse service I've ever encountered more

Great steaks! Many choices, cuts and varieties. 11/20/2006

I really like this steakhouse. Sometimes the wait (Fri/Sat. nights) is a bit long, but once seated you will get good service and great food. They also offer shrimp with you steak. Try it. It's very good. more

Wonderful! 7/6/2006

I was on the lookout for a good American restaurant. I was recommended this place by a friend and was very pleased. The customer service is always friendly. The dinners are very filling. I recommend the chicken fried steak it's the only thing I will order. My husband has tried several of their steak options and has enjoyed them all. They are known for offering a 72 ounce steak challenge. And last but certainly not least the meal is started with a tray of small corn, celery, and carrots that comes with a delicious dip. more

Marginal Food and Poor service 6/22/2006

I remember always going here when I was a kid, and really enjoying it, but I returned recently and had a below average experience. I got the salmon, the texture was more or less perfect, but it didn't have much flavor. My wife got the gardenburger, (her being vegitarian, and it being the only thing on the menu) and she said it was one of the worst ever. The service was bad. Drinks never refilled until we asked, server was not eager to help, and had an obviously fake niceness about her. The restaurant is also a bit too dim, hard to read the menu. Atmosphere was marginal, yet somehow they managed to be extremely busy. I will not return, even though this restaurant has sentimental value to me and my family. Pros: Food is not terrible Cons: Bad service, overpriced, very busy more

Run don't walk away 6/7/2006

Absolutely PATHETIC. more

a very good steak 4/16/2006

My family has enjoyed Sayler's for several years--if not decades. Sayler's is a well-known and well-respected steakhouse in Southeast Portland. To some, this area of Portland may be ""iffy,"" but please do not let that dissuade you. Outer Southeast Portland has some real gems--and alot of great people. You'll pay less for your steak dinner with all the trimmings than in some fancier, southwest-Portland restaurants. (I've eaten in those too. I'm fairly impressed by ambience, though I'm not always happy to pay the extra for it!) Sure, Sayler's does not offer the finest in lobby accomodations, and you will have to wait if you want a weekend dinner, but I've found the fare well worth the wait. And if you are with family and friends, plan on waiting and enjoy one another's company while doing it! If you are looking for a happy hour treat, Sayler's bar can't be beat. Pros: family friendly, good food, friendly Cons: long waits (weekends), no reservations, busy bar (weekends) more

disapointed 4/16/2006

Years of good food, friendly service has been replaced by fast food in the Beaverton Location. They utilized a reputation of quality steaks well beyound it's life span. How about a re-tooled new location, accepting reservations and a return to the County Kitchen we grew up knowing? Pros: Great Relish Dish, Ample Quantity Cons: Long waits, Reduced Quality, Same old menu more

Current Status: Pathetic 1/17/2006

Part 1... This used to be a good restaurant, but we're simply finished eating here. Forget about them not taking reservations for a specific time - they won't even allow you to put your name on the list over the phone, which is an absolutely stupid policy... What's the point in waiting in a crowded lobby for 45 minutes to an hour when you could simply call up over the phone while you were on the road and put your name on this list, so that by the time you got there, you wouldn't have to wait as long? And if you didn't show up for some reason, they could just simply cross your name off the list and go to the next one. The restaurant wouldn't lose a dime. Pros: What Pros? Cons: Service, Food, Environment more

Big, Expensive Disappointment 1/3/2006

I was expecting an amazing steak for $21, but what I got was a bland, tasteless steak that had absolutely no seasoning on it whatsoever. Luckily Sayler's serves their meals with a relish tray and a ton of bread that I wasn't all that hungry when the entree was served. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer, and they came out cold and equally tasteless. Our waitress was outstanding, though their hostess was snotty and completely peeved that she had to end her personal conversation with the cashier to seat us (she sighed and rolled her eyes when we walked up). A total of 4 drinks from the bar, an appetizer and 2 steaks and 2 side orders of prawns cost us $100... highly overpriced, especially considering that the ambience was similar to a Shari's or Village Inn and it's located on the edge of the ""iffy"" part of town. Pros: Service, Large portions, Tasty drinks Cons: Overpriced, Bland food, Location more

Best Prime Rib - But 12/12/2005

Had the best prime rib I have EVER had, but only after sending back the overcooked one they offered me first. Also had to keep asking for refills and service. They would walk by and avoid eye contact. Busy place on weekends, I recommend reservations if they are available. Even though I still recommend it because the prime rib was just that good!!! Pros: Great Prime Rib, Giant Steak Cons: Service Lacking, Busy more

Good food 11/24/2005

I love their Hamburger steaks. The onion rings are really good. Their sourcream is very different and very good. Pros: good food Cons: always crowded, do not take reservati more

Excellence everytime 3/8/2005

I have been enjoying Sayler's Country Kitchen for as long as I can remember. We used to go every year for my Birthday since I was a small child. I live in Las Vegas now and miss it sooo much! Every year when I go home, my Mom and Sister and I make a point of having 1 night out when we all 3 celebrate our birthdays for the year and stuff ourselves until we can eat no more. The service has always been nothing but friendly, fast and efficient. If I could eat at any steak restaurant anywhere, it would be Sayler's. The chicken fried steak is my absolute favorite. I love Filet Mignon but when I go to Sayler's I have to have the chicken fried steak it's like nothing else in the world. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to dinner at Sayler's. Pros: Great Food, Great value, Excellent service Cons: No reservations, Too long a wait more

Big uninteresting chunks of meat 11/16/2004

The menu at Sayler's is nothing but big chunks of meat: steak, chicken, fish, or shrimp. All with very little seasoning -- no wonder they put six kinds of sauces, plus a shaker of MSG, on the table! (I had the country fried steak, and even that was basically just a big hamburger patty with a meager, greasy breading.) Only go if you're in the mood for an old-fashioned supper-club carnivore experience. Pros: Lots of sides, Free ice cream Cons: , Pricey more

Great Stuff! 9/19/2004

We have been going here for more years than I care to admit - the food and service are always good and consistent. No flash, no fads, no yuppie food...Fried chicken equal to many ""classic"" places in the Old South. Pros: Steak, Fried Chicken, Good Service more
