Best

This new Greektown restaurant (great decor, warm setting) has a nice menu and even nicer service. Portions are very large, and they're great about sharing plates! Pros: seafoo...

Worst

Have been here many times and has been consistant. Last night was the exception and we will not return. Waited 50 minutes for a reservation. Seated at a table with no silverware...

Great Greek! 2/18/2008

This place was fabulous! Grilled Octopus apptitizer was the best I've had and the belini's are great too. Nice warm place to go over the winter months. Very cozy. The service is wonderful and very knowledgeable. more

Great seafood & service 1/15/2007

This new Greektown restaurant (great decor, warm setting) has a nice menu and even nicer service. Portions are very large, and they're great about sharing plates! Pros: seafood, service, quality, portions Cons: entrees can get spendy more

Excellent experience! 7/13/2006

My first time dining at Santorini was at a company holiday party. At first I was not very thrilled because I am not a seafood lover and they are famous for their seafood selection. I ordered the Chicken Halsted not expecting much. I could not have been more wrong! The combination of chicken, alfredo sauce and past was incredible! I definitely did not expect this from a Greek restaurant but now I know better. I will definitely be going back soon! Pros: Food selection & service! more

User review by destry1 4/23/2006

When one makes a reservation for 8:00 PM one does not expect to wait until 9:15 PM to be seated. Indeed, it would have been better had the Maitre' D advised us of the wait upon checking in rather than stringing us along for the hour and fifteen minutes. We could have gone to any number of other restaurants and been more welcomed and found cuisine as good or better. Having set a rather negative tone to the evening the entrees varied from excellent to just ok. See bass ranked up there with the best we've had. Shrimp scampi was good, shrimp Santorini was really nothing but a modified Scampi smothered, and we mean smothered, in parmesan cheese...yuk. For the money we paid, and it was a lot, we would have expected a lot more. In summary, there are better places to spend your cash. more

Greek dinner on St. Patrick's Day a great choice 3/19/2006

Went to dinner on St. Patrick's and had a great time. We arrived 25 minutes early for our reservation, escorted to small bar and the bartender created a green martini concoction, it was great. We barely got the drinks and were seated at a table. We tried the grilled octopus, it was very good. I had the shrimp santorini-the shrimp were very large and the garlic/oils were fabulous. My date tried the sea bass, our waiter filets the fish tableside. It was very nicely prepared. We enjoyed a bottle of greek red wine. Our waiter, who was from Bulgaria, was very engaging and treated us to a complimentary drink at the end of the meal. The host who greeted us at the front door came up to us several times to ask how our meals were, and sent us off very warmly. more

Good choice for Greek cuisine 8/28/2005

Greektown restaurant features good seafood in a pleasant setting. Start with the excellent octopus lightly grilled with olive oil and lemon. Also good is the charcoal grilled loukaniko (greek sausage). We wanted to try the grilled whole snapper and black sea bass but both were not available so we tried the salmon and the grouper, both of which were above average. Both come with choice of steamed mixed vegetables that seemed prepackaged and were tasteless, rice pilaf, or very good lyonnaise potatoes. Meals are served with good crusty bread and olive oil. Desserts include a decent sokolatina chocolate mousse. Good service, and outdoor seating is available in warmer weather. more

Big Disappointment 7/17/2004

Have been here many times and has been consistant. Last night was the exception and we will not return. Waited 50 minutes for a reservation. Seated at a table with no silverware, napkins, plates, etc. Had to go beg to have a waiter stop by the table (another 20 minutes). Never once did the 3 hosts offer an apology. They could have made it right by a simple, ""I'm sorry for your inconvenience"" or perhaps bought us an appetizer or dessert. Too many other good Greek restaurant in town - we will not be back. more

The Best Seafood in Chicago 7/7/2004

is served at this Greektown oasis. I've ate it all there and the best is either the shrimp or the orange roughy. Seafood can be hard to like, but if it's done right, it's to die for. The folks at Santorini do it right. If seafood is not your thing, try one of their other dishes. As an appetizer, I recommend the saganaki, a flambe'd goat cheese. If you go on a weeknight, ask to be seated by the fireplace if it is possible. Pros: good for small groups, excellent service, modestly priced Cons: a little cozy, noisy, slow valets more

Incredible appetizers, perfect service 4/11/2004

A really fun place for dinner - very high energy and the wait staff makes the experience even better. The main dishes are tolerable, but the appetizers are delicious. We ordered the feta with olives, saganaki (flaming cheese), octopus, calmari, grape leaves, athenian salad..all of it was incredible. The main dishes (lamb, salmon, moussaka) were aveage. But the service and atmosphere keeps the night entertaining. Pros: Atmostphere, Service, Appetizers Cons: , Crowded more

The best in Chicago 2/2/2004

Santorini is my favorite restaurant for a number of reasons. I feel like I am in a Greek villa on an island while I eat, the appetizers including teramosalata are absolutely fantasitic and their lamb chops are the best I have had. Decent wine list, but the best coffee I have had outside of Italy. (Greek style coffee). Plus, I have never had to wait for anything. Highly recommended. more

Favorite Restauant. Period. 7/3/2003

The food is consistently served fresh, hot, flavorful, and plentiful. Excellent for both large groups and romantic dinners. My personal favorite, Santorini has the best quail of any restaurant in the city. Most meat and seafood dishes are served charcoal grilled and oh so good. I have dined here dozens of times and have never been disappointed. Can you say that about any other restaurant in Chicago? And they also have the best bread and taramousalata in town. They only downside is that some of the best dishes here are specials which are only served certain days of the week. Pros: ambiance, whole grilled fish, grilled quail more

Bang For The Buck 5/5/2003

I recently brought some friends who are from Italy to Santorini Restaurant in Greektown Chicago. Even though this is a Greek Restaurant, and you would expect the waiters to speak Greek. I was pleasantly surprised to find that our waiter also spoke Italian. Words can not express the hospitality we were given that evening. The food was what our guest's were used to back home, at the finest restaurants in Florence. Whenever I talk to them over the phone they tell me how much they still rave about Santorini to their friends. Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, Free Parking more

Nice experience 3/1/2003

I wish I could remember my waiter's name - he was fabulous!!! Very friendly and very attentive! Pros: Good service, Good staff, Good food Cons: Parking $$$$, Uncomfortable booths more

Romance and Greece at it's best 8/30/2002

Santorini's offers a great variety of menus items in a romantic setting (a seat by the fireplace is the best!), as well as traditional Greek servers ready and willing to read your coffee grounds at the end of your meal. The food is excellent and priced very reasonably. Pros: Romantic Atmosphere, Food, Service Cons: Parking, Promptness of seating more

Flaming cheese at its best! 6/21/2002

Great atmosphere and the waitstaff was very attentive and helpful. I was in town for business, so several co-workers and I went here at a friend's suggestion. We were feeling adventurous and let the server choose all our appetizers and wine. He, and the kitchen, did not let us down. My favorite was the flaming cheese (with a description like that, how can you not be intrigued?)--goat cheese, I think, served in flames. It was incredible! The surface of the cheese was slightly scorched which produced such an intense and incredible flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with my entree, though. Skip the fish entrees and stick to the meat if you can. more

Good for groups ! 6/11/2002

I have been to Santorini a few times with large groups of people. It is really a great place to be with a large group, order a few different dishes, appetizers, and drinks. The atmophere is great and so is the service. Down and dirty delicious Greek food. Worth a shot. more

Always fresh 5/28/2002

I eat lunch at Santorini about once a month. The service is always lots of fun, and they do truely have the freshest seafood I have ever had in Greektown. When I've brought my family for dinner, I have found the restaurant very kid-friendly. Pros: fish, hearty food, service more
