In love with Saltoro 3/26/2010

We live right by Saltoro. Lucky us! We are fortuned to be a block from our favorite restaurant in Seattle. The ambiance is great, the staff is very polite and well-educated on the menu. Our favorites: Truffle Fries, of course, we have to have it every time. The antipasto platter is to die for. For entrees, more truffle oil with the Shrimp Linguine and my boyfriend loves the Pasta Bolognese. We bring all our friends and family over there and they fall in love with Saltoro like us. Special occasions, late night glass of wine, Sunday brunches, you name it; we are always there! Pros: Ambiance, Quality of Food, Great Staff Cons: Let me know if you find one more

Pasta Amore! 1/29/2010

If you are looking to share some pasta a la Lady and the Tramp, choose a romantic dinner at Saltoro. This quaint restaurant, at the north edge of Seattle, is a little known gem. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but inside its warm and cozy feel puts one in the mood for a romantic evening with your honey, especially if you can score a table under the skylights next to the window. The decor dotted with low hanging glass lamp shades and twinkle lights set the scene nicely. Kids are welcome here but my husband and I have resisted taking them because it is ""our"" special little place. Pros: Reasonable prices, outside seating in summer, small plates Cons: Curb appeal more

One of our neighborhood favorites! 1/8/2009

My boyfriend and I have eaten here more than a dozen times. The truffle fries are to die for! I'm a vegetarian and he's not, and there are a handful of vegetarian options, but like Bick's down the street (same owners, I believe), they have a special vegetarian menu you need to ask for which ""calls out"" the vegetarian options but also has some options that aren't on the regular menu. Why do this? I have no idea, it seems like they should just incorporate everything onto the regular menu. Pros: Ambience, service, general quality of ingredients Cons: Small portions more

Good but a little heavy 12/19/2008

My father, boyfriend, and I walked to Saltoro for dinner a few weeks ago. I liked the appearance from the outside and was excited to try a place in our new neighborhood (we just moved). I might have tried the wrong things on the menu, but had somewhat limited options as a vegetarian, and everything I ordered was greasy (pizza and salad). I also wasn't a huge fan of the pumpkin martini which tasted like egg nog and would have been better as a dessert. I am definitely still excited to go back sometime though, because as I said, I may have just ordered the wrong things! And my boyfriend and dad were happy with their food! Pros: Beautiful more

Summer Breezes 6/28/2008

We had a dreamy summer's night here last night. Sitting on the deck, cool breeze to add to the ambiance of a great meal and good wine. We'll be back, soon! more

a gem in North Seattle 6/18/2007

ive been driving by this restaurant for a few years now and decided to finally stop in one evening. what a great little place to have finally discovered!! the decor was warm and the lighting was gorgeous! i sat next to the fireplace. I had an awesome mojito which I selected from a wonderful list of cocktails. There was a large selection on the menu- from pizza and pasta to my new favorite: the spicy prawns and pancetta. the grilled tuscan bread was so tasty dipped in the spicy broth with goat cheese! They also had a wonderful wine selection- from the glass pours to the 20 bottles for $20 each section! I added the small saltoro salad to my meal and it was just perfect! mixed greens with a honey-shallot vinaigrette and almonds and blue cheese! YUM!! I had to end my meal with one of their scrumptious desserts- the fallen chocolate cake... says it takes extra time but its worth the 10 minute wait for it!! its like a gooey chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and homemade caramel sauce!! service was great! parking was a bit tough... but its worth the trip. I will definitely go back and bring my friends to this wonderful North Seattle find!! Pros: something for everyone on the menu. Cons: parking... can be extremely busy on fridays more

Saltoro is a great addition to North Seattle. The flavor combinations for the food is excellent and the price is very resonable. The scallopes were cooked correctly and they have a great bar with good deals on wine. more

Worth a try 11/5/2005

Tried a number of times. Service can be a hit or miss. There is one bartender who really does a nice job even though she seems to be overworked. Worth checking out; try the steak frites rare, skip the frites. more

Hidden Treasure in Greenwood 5/8/2005

I recently discovered Saltoro's and was extremely surprised by this delightful little bistro. The outside and surrounding area makes you wonder what you've gotten yourself into by deciding to eat there, but once you're seated and take a look around, your worries will fade. It's decorated with wine and olive oil bottles, has lots of dark wood, the lighting is bright and comfortable, and the servers are friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend ordering from the chef's special menus that seem to change often. I had the lamb with some sort of foi gras wine sauce over a polenta cake. It was the best lamb I've ever had! The sauce was amazing, and the price was even more amazing- I couldn't believe how reasonable everything was. I followed dinner up with a saffron creme brulee which a little different, but very good. I highly recommend Saltoro's, it's truly a great find! Pros: Great food, Great service, Good Wine Selection Cons: Outside Decor, Surrounding Area more

great neighborhood hangout 2/8/2005

the wine list is a tad weak and the decor is borderline Miami Vice but it is the best restuarant within several miles. The people are always super nice and the food is great. I love the cheese samplers. Pros: cheap, yummy Cons: decor more

Welcome to the Neighborhood! 2/4/2004

Great place! The food was innovative and very tasty. It was just hard to choose what to order because it all sounded so good! Very attractive decor. Casual, yet classy. Friendly, knowledgable service. Pros: great food, ambiance more

Look Up and everything will be fine! 12/13/2003

Great atmosphere from chest height & above. Bar is beautiful, wood columns & high ceilings, fire place with cut wood walls. Below that is cold & hallow. Some wood floors & cheap carpet, small chairs, not welcoming. Acoustics are loud, but great music is played (as long as the radio from the kitchen isn't playing). Food was good but found the wait staff not willing to share recommendations, specials, etc. - little conversation. Appetizer was served and then poof our meal was there, timing of service was bad. Wait staff only checked on us once. They didn't offer any type of antipasti with the meal. The check came in diner fashion. I was confused about what they were trying to be, upscale casual restaurant, or sling the food out there and push the customers through. Pros: Wood Decor, Wine Selection, Parking Cons: Wait Staff, Small Chairs, Cold Atmosphere more

What a great value and food! 6/9/2003

If you're in the neighborhood, eat here immediately! The steak frites are awesome with the blue cheese aioli. The salads are wonderful and worth sharing. Wait staff friendly and accommodating. I told our server I felt I was cheating on Bick's (which I also love love love) but since the $$$ is going in the same pocket, who cares? It's a lovely, nearby place to spend dining $$$. Pros: Great value, Love the menu/food Cons: N/A more

good neighborhood restaurant 5/16/2003

Great menu that is broken down by small and large plates and run a couple of blackboard items that feature seasonal ingredients. Have some fun specialty cocktails a good wine list with some great wines for $18 that go for much more elsewhere. Service is attentive and prices are reasonable Pros: good wine for low $$, service, menu variety Cons: parking can be tough more
