Best

One of the best places ever been in, go check yourself and you know what I mean. Pros: Great to be here Cons: Nothing

Worst

Well, I'm not a negative person and I love to eat out. Pros: good service Cons: Boring place which feels like a bunker, dull atmosphere and food which only looks good

Great experience! 7/31/2006

Awesome food, reasonable prices, and great service! The desserts are delicious. I can't wait to go back. more

Very closed to Delfina in quality 7/4/2006

I did notice the quality of the food is high. Like Delfina, it's crammed and the portion is small. Unlike Delfina, the decor is beautiful. Each dish has its own taste, very clean. I think the cook is a little bit heavy on salt too. I'd go back for eating and for gathering with friends, but not for having a nice talk (very noisy). For that, I'd go to Incanto or Tao Cafe in the same area. Pros: Good and clean tasty food Cons: Noisy and tight more

Solid Food 6/22/2006

Range does it right....Great food, great wine, and interesting cocktails. The service is friendly and timely and basically i can tell they try really touch upon all the areas in having a great dining experience. If you're into meat, go for the pork chop. All of the salads are delicious and desserts are fun (they seem to change often) Pros: Delicious food, good service Cons: probably need to make a reservation well in advance more

everything, from the appetizers to the desserts 6/13/2006

Loved it, and we will be coming back soon. Loved the service, Mollie was our server, she was awesome. Explained the menu, the drinks and everything on the menu. Loved everything about the place, from the decor to the dessert. Thanks we had a great time!!!!! more

WOW!! SOFTSHELL CRAB AND STRAWBERRIES 5/24/2006

RANGE IS SEASONAL CUISINE AT ITS BEST!! It's nice to walk into a restaurant and see all the perfect veggies/fish/fruit befitting the time of year. We had a delicious asparagus salad, incredible softshell crab, and the most amazing strawberry crepes!! Not to mention the melt-in-your-mouth pork dish. Definitely going back! Pros: cocktails, service Cons: noise, parking more

Worst service ever!! 5/21/2006

Although the food was tasty and well plated, this restaurant had the most indifferent, slow and mistake-ridden service I think I have ever had, particularly for a $250 bill for 4 of us. Everything was incredibly slow and often wrongly done (# olives in drinks, cook of meat, forgetting bday until bill was being settled, forgetting other requests until reminded). Also, the food was good, but such tiny portions that we were literally hungry after appetizer, main course and dessert. We didn't want to make too big a deal of it because it was our guest's bday, but I plan to call the manager today to 1) identify our waitress and 2) ask for something reduced on our bill. Will never go back and felt the value is really lacking even if the service is improved. more

YES YES YES 5/20/2006

This place nails the food, atmosphere and wine. The service was a bit shaky, but who not bad. I love this place. The ravioli appitizer is to die for. The wine list has a wonderful selection to choose from. This place is great to take friends and even business guests. The owner seemed very professional and dedicated. I too will go back many many times. Pros: Food, wine Cons: parking more

Will go back many times 5/4/2006

Thoroughly enjoyed every part of our meal. From the delicious cocktails at the bar to the incredible halibut, short ribs and raviolis (to just highlight a few) to the chocolate martini, we had a wonderful visit at this great Mission restaurant. The lovely owner that sat us was so inviting and our server was very knowledgable of both the food and the wine. He was also so attentive and nice, something we find so important. We recommend this place to all -- they have a good formula. Food is simple yet very flavorful, the atmosphere compliments the food and the service is lovely. Pros: Food, service, cocktails Cons: parking, a little loud more

Great Spot! 3/9/2006

We had a wonderful evening at range last week. We went early, had the special drink of the day at the cozy bar area, then ate in the back dining room. I was pleasantly surprised by the mix of ages at the restaurant. We had great service, very attentive, but not pushy. Our meals were fabulous. I had the braised leeks, which were amazing, and the Skatewing -which was one of the best dishes I have had in awhile. My husband had the Ahi sashimi, and the lamb, which wasn't as good as my skatewing, but very good. It was such a great dining experience, can't wait to go back! more

Great Neighborhood Treat! 3/3/2006

We loved Range! We went on a Saturday night with no reservations. We got there and were told it would be an hour wait, but found 2 seats at the bar within 20 minutes and ate dinner there. The other patrons were friendly and bought us drinks, and the bartender was friendly and attentive. We ate the roasted asparagus salad, which was phenomenal. I had the halibut with cabbage and olive tapenade (buttery, smooth and yummy!) and my partner had the beef short ribs (so soft, tender, flavorful--perfectly cooked). They had a great wine/cocktail list. We were so full we didn't have room for desert! We had a gift certificate and the prices were so reasonable that the two of us ate for less than the amount of the certificate, and thus able to give the bartender/server a REALLY NICE tip. He deserved it! A definite new San Fran favorite! Pros: food, service, great price Cons: very busy more

GREAT Food, Wine & Service. Laura! 12/17/2005

Excellent. we ate at the bar. Laura was excellent! Great wine, service, and food! Carlos was also outstanding. We started w/ the Bosc pears w/ celery root, and feta - perfect combination (all Laura's reccomendations). Then we had manilla clams w/ fennel sausage - delicious, honey and toasted almond pork sausage w/ cabbage and carmelized apples - one of the cooks comes in on his day off and makes the sausage! We split the pork w/ hominy, plums, and pecan brown butter - perfectly seasoned. we tried a bunch of different wines - All of the wines were well structured and obviously carefully selected. We had the cheese plate - 3 delicately shaved cheeses and the chocolate pot de creme - OMG. It was excellent all the way around. Pros: Wines by Glass, Service, Food to perfection Cons: parking more

Very good food very reasonable prices 11/24/2005

Really enjoyed my dinner here. It is my hood and very happy about that. The food is not creative, but it is mighty tasty. I really liked the pork shoulder with hominy grits and their almost savory dessert souffle made with savarin cheese. Small but well selected wine list with many choices in the $30 range. Pros: value, neighborhood Cons: noisy more

Incredible! 11/17/2005

Went for a birthday celebration and can't wait to go back. Dreaming of the clams with sausage! Everything was so flavorful. Excellent clams and pasta app. The pork loin was perfect, halibut, bass, steak - all good. Desserts were unimpressive - they need a new pastry chef in my opinion. But the food otherwise was just steller. Pros: delicious food! Cons: mediocre desserts more

Salt II 11/13/2005

I had not read the ""Salty"" review before I went, but I should have. The Crystal Pistol was a very tasty cocktail, wine list has a nice selection in various price ranges. Our waiter was very nice, laid back, but efficient, and our appetizers were very good. BUT the main course was a DISASTER due to the UNBELIEVABLE amount of SALT in the food (and I hate underseasoned food). The bean stew, steak, and chicken were almost inedible (a shame since they were tasty minus the tongue-searing salt flavor). Lamb shank was good, bass was overcooked. Had 5 desserts (2 compliments of the kitchen) which were unremarkable (some people thought the desserts were salty, but maybe we were just freaked out by then), though the cheese souffle was pretty good. This restaurant could be really good, but they need to handcuff the guy/gal using the salt shaker in the back. Pros: Ambience, Wine List, Waiter Cons: Salty Food!, Desserts are weak more

Should be called Salt 11/6/2005

This was quite possibly the worst dinning experience I've had in the last 10 years. Apparently the kitchen ran out of every spice but salt and so everything was salty, and I don't mean a little over salted, it was really salty. And I don't mean one dish was salty, everything was salty. Salt in small portions enhances flavor, but in this case all the other flavors were crushed beyond recognition, which is a pity because some of the dishes should have been editable at least. Overall the menu was limited and included a lot of the standard fair, so nothing to get very excited about anyway. The service was OK but not great, agreeable but not friendly. I had also heard the bar did great cocktails, but the cocktail list was limited and they failed to make good versions of old standards. Skip it. Cons: salty food, average menu more

Haven't I ate here before? 10/30/2005

No, it is just that this restaurant is just like any other ""hot new"" restaurant in San Francisco. Don't get me wrong, everything was OK, but nothing special. They had the most standard fare (e.g., pork chops and salmon) which were, well, OK. In short, this is a place to go to is someone else has already made reservations, but don't go out of your way to try it. Pros: Nice looking decor Cons: Bland, Bland, Bland more

Decent new mission place 10/28/2005

Tried this place two months ago with two friends. Made reservations and was seated right away. The good news is that the place adds more San Francisco chic to a sometimes shady part of Mission ( Valencia to be exact). The decor was simple yet nice and they had candles on the tables etc. The soup was good, forgot the name but had egg in to. The scallops were awful--I haven't used that word yet in a review, but they had little flavor and we not very fresh:( Luckily had a salad, with frigs, that was delicious, and took the bad taste out of my mouth. I might repeat, to see if they have added new things to the menu, but won't run back to see. Pros: Lively bar area Cons: value, needs better talent more

Good food 10/17/2005

The souffle desert was my favorite but the main course and appitizer was good as well. Service was ok but not exceptional. Loud restaurant, making it hard to hear your dinner companions. Pros: friendly, food Cons: loud more

Range - a great new place in the Mission 10/16/2005

Wow! What a great surprise finding this new place. Food was a great value and so delicious. Mushroom ravioli and pork shoulder were the favorites. Dont bother on dessert - tried the peach cobbler and pistachio waffle and both were huge disappointments. They also had fun and creative speciality drinks. Pros: Reasonably priced Cons: Desserts more

Impressed. 9/30/2005

Great new spot in the Mission. Bartender was relaxed, friendly, knowledgeable with no 'tude. Why is that so rare? But thank god for a decent bartender. Food was top-notch. Cool, relaxed vibe. Solid. more
