Best

One of the best places ever been in, go check yourself and you know what I mean. Pros: Great to be here Cons: Nothing

Worst

Well, I'm not a negative person and I love to eat out. Pros: good service Cons: Boring place which feels like a bunker, dull atmosphere and food which only looks good

Amazing experience, delightful dinner 2/26/2007

San Francisco has a ton of restaurants you can choose from. This is the best by far. I go here every time I am in SF due to the quality service, amazing food and the overall amazing experinence I have there time and time again. Pros: Delicious food, great service, fun place Cons: Not open for lunch more

Where is the love? 2/4/2007

I recently ate at Range and thought it was just ok. Range is a part of the SF eating scene and is supposed to serve ""California cuisine"" which has turned into dishes like the mussels or the ravioli, each with six or so specific ingredients, put together to show off how much the chef knows about food. Sometimes the combinations work, sometimes they don't. The tombo tartare is an example of when it doesn't work. The taste was bland and I prefer to eat an item like this at a sushi restaurant. The rest of the meal was ok, the chicken was undercooked though. I recently heard too that the owner asked a certain SF councilman to leave the restaurant due to his support of Health Care for restaurant employees of the City. That is reason enough not to go back but the bland food sealed it for me. Pros: snappy interior Cons: unthoughtful owners more

Good, not great 1/19/2007

We went to Range for the first time this past week and, while it was good, I didn't think it was as great as the other reviews made it sound. We both ordered salads to start, both of which were pretty good, and I ordered the vegetarian option as my main course. It wasn't bad, but it lacked something. The ingredients were interesting but it needed something else, as it was a bit on the bland side. The wine list was well chosen though, and had some reasonably priced, nice wines. We chose a bottle of Rioja, which was only $28- definitely a bargain ! The service was efficient, but a bit cold. All in all, it wasn't a bad meal, but not the most amazing one either. Or, maybe I was just expecting more after reading all the other reviews. Pros: Nice wine list, good ambiance Cons: mediocre vegetarian option more

Great Food!!!!!!! 1/3/2007

Great food 11/27/2006

This a great place to grab a dinner. Make sure you park in the lot for 10$ and don't waste your time hunting for parking in this neighborhood. I have really had some amazing meals at this place and enjoyed the environment more

The real deal 11/20/2006

An amazing transformation from the tapas joint that used to occupy this space. Range lives up to the hype with great cocktails, superb food and spot-on service. A bit pricey, but worthy of your hard-earned dollar. more

Just the way it should be. 11/6/2006

We've been to Range twice in the last three months, and can't wait to go back again. Pros: Food, service, atmoshpere. more

Excellent food! 10/24/2006

Excellent food & nice venue without being pretentious 10/24/2006

My friend has been telling me about Range for months. We decided to go after work on Friday around 7:00 and were lucky enought to get a table. The hostess was very friendly and so was the rest of the staff. I had the pork shoulder and it was delightful. Tender and came with a light, sweet apple sauce and mashed squash. Not too sweet or over powering. The portion was just the right size to leave room for dessert. I had a great glass of red wine and the price was very reasonable, like $8. The only downside was the expresso, it was a bit watery and not much flavor. The inside of the restaurant is modern but warm and cozy. Nice date spot but could get a bit noisy. The bar seats are filled FAST. I can't wait to go back. Pros: Great food and friendly staff Cons: gets busy, expresso more

Excellent Cuisine! 10/2/2006

My roommate and I went to Range last week to try it out and were blown away by the food. The flavors were very interesting and complementary, but different, innovative. We have two vegetarian dishes, one app, one ent, and a desert. We loved it! Everyone should try this place. Pros: delicious food Cons: too loud of music, small portions, lacking service. more

SF has other restaurants that show off abilities better 9/20/2006

My husband and I dined at Range last night after seveal failed attempts (our fault) trying to do so. I was very excited, as I've heard a lot of positive feedback about the restaurant, but I have to say that overall, I was disappointed. Pros: Good choices of wines, some courses delivered well. Cons: Overall, disappointed with the experience, and would not recommend it above other fantastic restaurants in SF. more

Pretentious 9/17/2006

This restaurant is so pretentious it belongs in the Marina not the Mission. Some of the food is okay but, the vibe is so rigid that its hard to enjoy. The worst part is the owner walking around with her snooty attitude. If youre into spending $20 on a plate of butter youll love it. Otherwise, save your money and eat some where else. Cons: rigid rigid rigid more

Great for Groups (and Couples, Too!) 9/16/2006

Five girlfriends and I dined at Range for the first time a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful time. The entrance to the restaurant makes it appear narrow and small, but once you get past the bar area, you enter a surprisingly spacious main area. The clean-lined decor, tasteful mirrors, and thoughtful arrangement of the tables makes the restaurant seem even roomier. The scene: trendy but unpretentious, healthy but not fanatically so, an eclectic mix of couples and 20- and 30-something groups of friends. Pros: Thoughtfully planned menu, Good for groups Cons: Street parking only more

yum! 8/31/2006

We dropped into range on a whim (only possible very early in the eve) for a late lunch. The food was excellent and the service was friendly. The vennison appetizer alone was worth coming back for. The squash terrine was earthy and delicious. Be sure to make reservations, we were lucky and early. The place filled up quickly with a great blend of Missionites and foodies. Pros: food, bar selection, great value Cons: parking more

Best new restaurant in the Mission? 8/27/2006

We dropped into Range last night, where they were kind enough to squeeze us in despite the full house. Truly incredible food! The flavors in each dish were perfectly balanced, as you might expect from an eatery of this caliber (on par with Delfina and Bar Tartine), but with surprising elements that elevate the experience beyond expectations. Manila clams are grounded with fennel sausage and enlivened with hot pepper and chives. Heirloom tomatoes are accompanied by a creamy raw milk cheese (like a cross between mascarpone and mozzarella) and sprinkled with crunchy bread crumbs. The slow cooked pork loin (w/ butter beans, hen-of-the-wood mushrooms, and a bit of spinach) could be found elsewhere - but here the jus is infused with a zesty lemon fragrance that lightens the whole dish. I could go on, but by now you should be on your way over there! (My only complaint is that the noise level in the front room is unacceptably high.) Pros: Exceptional food Cons: Noise level too high for comfortable conversation more

Fabulous bartenders and phenomenal food! 8/9/2006

I've been to Range a few times this past month just on my own, spending a little ""me"" time at the bar over a couple glasses of wine and an appetizer. The first time I went to Range, I brought along a magazine to read. Thomas, the bartender, made sure there was no need for that magazine! Thomas, Carlos, and the barbacks are all wonderfully friendly people, and make the best cocktails in town. I finally came with a friend last night and ordered a three-course meal: Absolutely phenomenal food! We had the heirloom tomato salad and mussels with sausage as appetizers; the pork loin and sea bass for entrees, both of which blew my mind; and a chocolate souffle, berry crepes, a glass of moscato, and a glass of graham's port for dessert. This was by far the BEST meal I have eaten in a long time, and I've recently been to Kokkari, Bar Tartine, and Absinthe. Bar Tartine used to be my favorite place to take myself out on dates, but I think Range has won out for wine selection, food, and service. Thank you Range!!! Pros: Great light, wonderful bartenders, tasty beverages Cons: Long waits for a table, pricey, can be a little too loud at times more
