I recently ate at Range and thought it was just ok. Range is a part of the SF eating scene and is supposed to serve ""California cuisine"" which has turned into dishes like the mussels or the ravioli, each with six or so specific ingredients, put together to show off how much the chef knows about food. Sometimes the combinations work, sometimes they don't. The tombo tartare is an example of when it doesn't work. The taste was bland and I prefer to eat an item like this at a sushi restaurant. The rest of the meal was ok, the chicken was undercooked though. I recently heard too that the owner asked a certain SF councilman to leave the restaurant due to his support of Health Care for restaurant employees of the City. That is reason enough not to go back but the bland food sealed it for me.
