The name is Quality Custom Deck, and we did get a quality custom deck. However, the service is far from quality. We were originally given a start date (after my calling twice to find out) of 3/31 with completion in about 4 days. We just had the deck completed 4/18, after 3 weeks of work. During those three weeks, we were told people were going to be coming on the weekends, etc, and no one ever showed up. When it was near completion, no one showed up for six days (Saturday-Friday).... We were changing our schedule, keeping dogs in, keeping gates unlocked, and no one showed up or ever called that entire time. After finally getting someone out to complete the job, we had a remaining balance of about $1200 (on a $11,000 deck, the rest was financed), and asked if we could call it even to pay $1000 as the remaining due to all the inconveniences and long delay in completion. Never once did we hear an apology for our inconvenience, or even any acknowledgement that their communication was horrible. No one was willing to negotiate or give us any break of any type after having our yard torn up, and full of materials (and empty soda bottles, sweatshirts from the workers, etc) for 3 weeks. We talked to the owner and told him we would be forced to leave a bad review if they couldn't at least acknowledge the horrible service, and his only response was ""do what you have to do, Buddy"" in a very condescending tone and asked if we would have paid more if it was done early. Well, no, we would have paid what was owed to have it done in the 4 days to one week promised. Maybe even two weeks. But three!? With no one showing up or communicating for days at a time?! So, in short, the deck is great. The architect was fabulous, the workers were polite, but the management and running of the company is definitely not there for quality service. So, if you don't mind long delays, and little communication, and willing to wait that all out for a great deck, then we did get a great deck. But if you have any type of timeframe (we had guests, and the backyard was a mess!) or expect good communication and service, then you may want to go with a different company.\r more

If you like having to harass a company to get them to finish the job- then these guys are for you. For starters... Do NOT give them your CC number. They charged the final amount before the deck was completed- and it was ""completed"" poorly.\r I will try to keep this short\r \r The deck took over a month to complete: This was due to a few rainy days but mostly because the guys kept running out of material. It would be days before the would show up again. \r \r We had to leave for vacation for 2 weeks and Josh PROMISED he himself would do the final walk through and make sure everything was perfect then charge the final payment. Well- we have security cameras and on the day they charged us we checked them and the deck was not done. I sent Josh an email and he promised it would be complete the next day when we came back home. They did a mediocre job on the bench- it looks cheap and was unstable (mind you we are 15 feet up from the ground). They left off a ton of pieces and to top it off they didnt install the correct railing that we paid $800 extra for. \r \r That was October 9th. We had to call, and email many times to get them to come back out- today they just ""finished"" all of their errors. The decided to use our outdoor dining table as a saw bench- and left the entire deck and table covered in saw dust. The driveway was also left with a ton of composite pieces all over it. The guys just left the place a disaster.\r \r Who knows if we will ever see our $800- but I HIGHLY recommend not giving them any banking info to charge you until you are 100% happy. Like their contract SAYS they will do. When I finally had to threaten to call the credit card company for our money back until they finished Josh got defensive and actually flat out lied ""You told me I could charge the card and then when you returned we would do a walk through together"". No sir- no way in hell would I give you the final payment of THOUSANDS of dollars before the job is done. Too bad it was a phone call where the final payment was agreed upon and not in writing.\r \r These guys also sub contract out to people so you aren't really getting the people you expect to be and you have no idea how good of a job they will do. \r \r We paid double the price for composite decking and they scratched most of the pieces while installing. It also stains easily- they forget to tell you that.\r \r Wouldnt recommend more

Big Hopes Big Disappointment! 4/26/2012

UPDATE: I got an apology and request for coninued business from my designer today. Build was apparently scheduled for first week in May sonce we began the process. Moving my Stars up to 3 until the build is final and I can see the result!\r \r \r \r On 14 March I received an estimate from one Quality Custom Decks designers. He was very friendly and helpful throughout the estimate and left me a couple of days to decide. The design I originally requested was a ground level 10X12 on one side of my Patio slab and a 16X12 on the opposite side. After some thought I decided that I would do one side at a time to minimize the out of pocket cost. I called two days later and requested a quote for just one side (10X12).\r Approx. 23 March I made a second call for the one side estimate. I received it the same day via email. I replied to the email that I definitely wanted to proceed. On 28 March I received and email with instructions. A contract to sign, and some requirement they needed for submittal to my Housing Association. \r On 30 March I was contacted by my HOA and told the documents submitted were incorrect and they needed a new one. I contacted my designer and he told me I had sent the wrong one but he tried it anyway?just in case they would take it. He described to me what the correct document was and I sent it to him the same night. He stated he would send to my HOA right away.\r On 5 Apr I contacted my designer and requested a build date. That afternoon I received a call from their scheduler stating they were discussing my build and would contact me soon to give me a date.\r On 13 April I was contacted by my HOA because they had still not received the required build information. I contacted my designer ? he said he would send it that night.\r On 16 April my HOA stated that had still not received the required documents. I sent an email to my designer?.\r On 18 April I was told they were meeting the next day to assign me a build date.\r On 21 April I was received a letter from my HOA that the project had been approved.\r On 23 April I sent notice to the company that I had the approval letter and requested a build date. No response.\r On 24 April I called the company and asked to speak with my designer or the scheduler. I was told their phones weren?t working correctly and that someone would call me back. No call, no email?.still no build date.\r On 26 April I contacted the company and asked them to cancel my request. I cannot tell you why I had so much trouble getting build date. Im forced to believe that it was because the project was so small ? 10X12 approx. $1900 that the business just wasn?t that important to them.\r To say I?m disappointed is mild because now I have to start over with a new company ? 6 weeks wasted. My cancellation was not due to irritation but concern about potential follow up for future issues. What if I have a problem with the deck after it?s built? If they won?t return your calls/emails before you give them money?what?s to say they will after you have already paid. \r All of their personnel were polite and friendly to me?when you could get them.\r Bottom Line: I can?t say do NOT use this company but I will say this company requires the customer to be persistent and have the time to do lots of follow up. I?m paying them?right?\r more

Very Happy Customer 6/23/2010

Quality Custom Decks is the real deal. They came out on a Sunday afternoon, discussed our wants, and needs, and provided us with 3 solutions. The result is a 700 square foot deck, with an arbor, that has truly surpassed our expectations. There were some minor hiccups along the way, but you expect that with new construction. Every concern was handled professionally, and to our satisfaction. The install crew was top notch. I waited a few months to write this review in order to insure no negatives popped up. There are none. I would recommend QCD's to anyone. I will be happy to send pictures to anyone who wants to see the final result. I will add that after the project was complete I sent an e-mail with two minor concerns along with pictures. When I got home that evening, they were already fixed. Pros: Everything more

What a great experience!!! 6/30/2009

After collecting 5 bids from deck companys I finally found one that didn't act like a bunch of used car salesmen. They didn't take any money, down finished the job on time, cleaned up every day and the builders were excellent. Thank you for my new deck more

Terrible Service/Poor Quality 6/16/2009

I?m very disappointed in the quality and service of Quality Custom Desks (QCD). First the positive, they did let me pay in 3 installments and they guys that came out were professional and did an ok job for the most part. However, DO NOT give them your credit or debit card number. QCD use sub-contractors to do their work and since (in my case) they don?t have any quality assurance personnel checking on these subs, then it?s a gamble on what type of quality you may end up with. After the deck was complete, I came home and I found a few defects that needed correcting. When I call the manager, he said he would come out, take a look and have the problems fixed; he never showed. I called a second time and he promised again, but never showed up once more. One month later when it was time for his last payment installment, I told him I would pay him when the job was complete. Well, he didn?t show again and he charged my credit card for the last payment anyway. Now, I?m constantly calling him to finish the work but he continues to lie about coming to complete the job. Right now, I?m in the process of trying to find a way to get this issue resolved. I?m also going to write a complaint to the radio station (WOAI 1200) where I heard the advertisement to let them know what type of shady businesses they are using as advertisers. \r \r 6-29-09: Updated Review. As a follow-on to my last post, I was told today 6-29-09, that my warranty was voided on this deck because I did not get it stained right after it was built. Of course I didn?t stain the deck; I was waiting for them to repair it. Why would I spend time and money to stain a deck that could possibly be torn apart; it doesn?t make sense. Stay away from this company. Pros: They let me pay in 3 installments Cons: Poor Quality, Terrible Customer Service more

Bad Bad Business 5/5/2009

Very poor customer service,no calls for the no shows. Their time is worth more than yours. Have yet to see the work but we paid for half already,we'll see. Not impressed so far. Pros: no shows no calls Cons: all more

poor quality, unreliable 8/2/2008

I would not recommend. Great prcing, but I got what I paid for. When I purchase my next home I will go with a higher quality material. It does at least keep me out of the mud! more
