Great Drinks, fun atmosphere 2/18/2008

We were not that thrilled with our Palomino visit. It started out great, with friendly bartenders and great Martini's however from there it went downhill. The food was average at best for the price, I must say it would have probably tasted a lot better with decent service. THe customer service was far from friendly (other than the bartenders) and I am regretting leaving a decent tip. I am hoping she was having an off evening. We may try it again, it was a fun atmosphere and great location but they have some work to do. Pros: Bar Menu Cons: Service, Value more

Boring food, good service 12/11/2007

I went here with a friend who had lunched there a few times for interviews, so it came recommended. I now don't trust her palate, because the food here was boring. For the prices it just was not worth it for a lackluster entree. The dessert was boring too, for where it was. I could have gotten as good at Perkins. Our service was attentive but aloof enough, helpful and actually kind. So no complaints there. It just shows you once again that price tag is not always an indication of quality. Pros: Service Cons: Boring food, value more

Awful food and wine list for an expensive price! 12/4/2007

Recently my husband and I took our 8 year old daughter to the Nutcracker Ballet at the Orpheum Theater. I wanted to make this really special for her, so I thought we go out to eat before the show. I made reservations for the Palomino, which is right across from the Orpheum. We got there early so we decided to sit in the bar area and have a drink. Initially I thought the place was very nice; the atmosphere is very cool and pleasing to the eye. However, this all changed as the evening progressed. For anyone who is a wine drinker, they have a terrible wine list (cheap wine for an expensive price). Service was okay, but food was terrible. I had Sea bass ($26), which tasted fishy, and was really bland; my husband ordered the Prawn Scampi ($20), which he did not receive Prawns they were jumbo shrimp, and the pasta it came with was all clumped together and hard in areas. My daughter had steak ($7), and she loved hers (I would have rather had her meal). We ended up spending $130 on an awful meal, and considering I?ve eaten at a lot of up scale restaurants downtown, I won?t ever go back!! (P.S. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review on a restaurant?that?s how upset I am.) Pros: Bar area (not dining area) is pleasing. Cons: Food and wine list are awful!! Really expensive for low quality! more

As if the food was not enough, Val made it even better. 4/8/2007

Palomino is Perfect. My 5 years of dining there have always been nothing but the best. Sometime we wait a while but hey, thats the city, deal with it. Val is a superb waitress and is an example of This restaraunts fine management and employees. Best Calamari in the twin cities. My Lavender cosmo is always a treat to have there. Thanks Palomino for being so fabulous!!! Pros: Free Parking Below in Lasalle Plaza Parking, Convenient to other downtown destinations, great place to start for the night. Cons: None so far, sometimes a bit of a wait but like i said, thats minneapolis. more

Great Service and Food! 4/5/2007

Hands down, this is one of the greatest restaurants downtown Minneapolis. The food is phenomonal and the service is outstanding. I would recommend making reservations though. The place is always packed. The atmosphere is great, very diverse. It is also in a great location. The executive chef is great too, gave my bf and I free dessert and wine because it was our anniversary. Check this place out, it's worth it! Pros: good food and service, atmosphere Cons: parking more

TACO BELL 2/23/2006

I hadn't eaten at Palomino for years and I had a luncheon there today. I had a very disappointing meal and when I shared my opinion with the server, he said - that's too bad. I had a MUCH better meal for $2.53 at Taco Bell the other night!!! more

They Do It All! 12/27/2005

I've been going to Palomino for over 10 years, though the menu has changed over the years(a bit more main stream now), the dedication, service and consistency has kept me loyal. The food is always great, the kitchen can really WOW you! Their ""feature sheet"" continually has fresh upbeat items, the service is personal with much detail, the atmosphere elegant without a dress code. They have been very busy this season (1,500 People a day!) but still deliver! A MUST stop. Pros: Accomodating, Heated Parking, Established more

Sloppy All Around 12/1/2005

When there are so many great restaurants in and around downtown Minneapolis, I'm always amazed how a place like this can flourish. The space itself has no character, the servers are unpolished, and the food is sloppily prepared. I ordered the lobster ravioli which was burnt on the bottom and had way too much going on. The menu is unfocused. If you're looking for a restaurant where you can get bruschetta, fried calamari, a boring entree, and a tacked on dessert for 100 bucks, then this place is for you. more

ANOTHER REASON TO SPEND THE EVENING DOWNTOWN 3/19/2005

I made a reservation two nights prior for my husband and I. They asked if it was for a special occasion. It was our 8 year wedding anniversary. We arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation and were promptly seated. We were given a table by a window and our server made a point of wishing us well on our anniversary. The combination of the beautiful decor, lighting, attentive service and a very pleasing palette of food made it the beginning of a very fine and memorable night. I enjoy spending time downtown and will continue to make the Palomino a destination while I'm there. more

User review by asuddie 3/3/2005

The waiter was ridiculously rude...he commented negatively on our food choices, he accidently emptied a wine glass onto a friends jacket by prematurely taking it from the table and didn't go out of his way to apologize. He took a plate from under my friend in the middle of a bite of bread-no reaction when she told him she was not finished-I would not recommend this restaurant for a group of people...food was good, my pizza was burnt on the edges but the crab dip and pasta dishes were amazing! All-in-all I will not return. If I am going to go to a fine dining restaurant, I expect to be treated in a fine manor which was definitely NOT the case! We even made reservations and had to wait almost 25 minutes to be seated-it was a week night and there were at least a dozen tables available! Pros: Atmosphere, Wine selection, Drink selection Cons: Service, some food items more

Disappointing 8/12/2004

When I pay $100 for a meal for two, I expect near perfection. I can handle a mistake or two. But this place made rookie mistakes. The soup was cold, and I had to send it back TWICE. And it still wasn't hot! The crab dip was way too rich. The port wine after dinner had been open WAY too long - I had to send it back. The deserts were marginal - the ""molten"" chocolate cake was more like ""crumbly."" The creme brulee was like pudding, and the sugar on top was incredibly thick - it was by far the worst creme brulee I'd ever had. The service was phenomenal, and she really tried to make up for the deficiencies. But it wasn't enough - I will never return, and I urge you to do the same. Enough of these crappy corporate cookie-cutter restaurants! Cons: , Loud, Marginal food more

Great place - a must visit! 7/10/2004

Very impressive restaurant. Ambience is amazing and the food even better. The Mojitos were really good. Highly recommend the Bruschetta for an appetizer and the Lobster Ravioli as well. The molten chocolate cake is to die for. If you like great food, this is the place for you. more

Good Downtown Eats 8/10/2003

My guy and I recently went for my birthday. We brought our own wine, which they were more than happy about. They even corked it and chilled it for us at our table. We were seated promptly on a Friday night (with a reservation), and our server was amazingly attentive. The value is very good, it's really not that expensive for what you get. I highly recommend it, and I didn't notice that the music was very loud. Pros: prompt seating, awesome service, great food/value Cons: parking, not for kids more

Inconsistent 7/30/2003

On a recent visit, we sat down 20 minutes after our reservation time, were seated 15 minutes before a server approached us(at a table with a damp napkin and 1 dirty fork), did not receive our bottle of wine until 25 minutes after we were seated. They were out of my first two menu choices, but I was pleasantly surprised by my meal--(although it was a look warm) recommended by our server. The place was crazy busy for a Tuesday night. This is a great restaurant, but don't expect perfection everytime. Pros: Validated Parking more
