Horrible Massage, Good manicure and pedicure, Disorganized 10/27/2006

I do not recommend Nirvana unless you are only going there for a manicure or pedicure. For my birthday, my husband got a spa package for us that included a massage and a mani/pedi. "King and Queen" for the day was the name of the package, and they certainly did not deliver on that. There was nothing that resembled "royal" treatment. My massage therapist didn't ask me whether I would like her to use this oil that felt and smelled like Ben Gay / Icy Hot, she just used it without asking my permission. I felt extremely hot, and then extremely cold and uncomfortable. Not relaxed, AT ALL. In addition, she put hot towels on the "Ben Gay" which only intensified the discomfort. Then, she covered the hot towels with the blanket, so that when the hot towels were removed, the blankets were cold and damp. In addition, she left the hot towels on for so long, that they got cold! Also, there was no organization or communication as to what was happening when, who was doing what service, and when to go out, etc.. The therapists were confused, as were we. The confusion I blame on extremely poor management, not the therapists. Fortunately, the manicure and pedicure were good experiences, but, unfortunately, they were marred by the awful massage and the disorganized business. To be fair, my husband had an excellent massage experience and we were given a 10% discount on my massage, but it certainly wasn't "King and Queen" treatment. I do not recommend Nirvana. Pros: Manicures and Pedicures, good products for sale Cons: Everything else more

Best massage 10/18/2006

Lev is the best massage therapist I have ever encountered. He was able to work out areas that I never thought possible. Lev is great with deep tissue massage. . .gentle yet firm touch and very tuned in with the person he is working on." Christi S. more

Best Spa in Portland 10/2/2006

I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a phenomenal spa in the Portland area "LOOK NO FURTHER THAN NIRVAN DAY SPA!" I received a 90 minute facial, and must husband had a 90 minute massage. As you walk through the door the serene environment transports you to another place where the your busy lifestyle is blocked as as your five senses become distinctly aware of their surroundings. Relax with a drink from their extensive menu of complimentary beverage or stroll around to view the soothing art of desert landscapes. Needless to say this was one of the most enjoyable spa experiences I have ever had. I have been known to frequent spa's all around the world, and consider myself a bit of a "spa snob" - from the depths of New York city to the streets of Milano, Italy - Who knew that one of my most enjoyable experiences would be in the "Pearl District" (Portland, Oregon)! Would not recommend... 9/12/2006

I had a relative in town this summer and wanted to plan a girls day at the spa. I was having trouble finding anyplace with availability on a Saturday as it was wedding season. The owner called me back after hours and assured me that he could fit in our party of 3 for all services that we were interested in. Unfortunately, upon showing up at the Spa on the Saturday morning they did not have our reservation and were not eager to figure out how to help us. The owner called me two days later to apologize and assured me that we would be 'taken care' of when we rescheduled. So, I again made an appointment for myself and a friend for the following weekend and although they had our appt, it was incorrect, there was no 'discount' applied, the rooms are noisey and it was incredibly expensive. The services were good, but...like many things in the Pearl...this place is way overrated and if they expect to stay in business they should appeal to their local clients by following through with their promises. more

Best Pedicure in Town! 8/23/2006

I also came in with four of my girlfriend on "Girls Night Out" and unlike the review below me, had a wonderful time! The mojito drinks were a real treat, as well as the nail techs that took their time with us. Lindsey expecially was a real gem, I will definantly visit Nirvana again. The treatment we received was one of a kind, and the staff at Nirvana went out of their way to provide us with a great experience. The front desk staff was very friendly and personable, making our experince even better. If you are looking to treat yourself or a loved one, try Nirvana..you will love it as much as we did! Pros: Great staff, Beautiful & relaxing atmosphere, One of a Kind service options Cons: Parking more

not impressed 8/20/2006

A girlfriend and I tried out the girls night out package, it was mojito night and sounded fun. When we arrived there was nowhere to wait and we were directed to the manicure station. We asked if we could get a mojito while we waited and the reply was, you want to have it now? I guess you are only allowed one mojito so we opted to wait until we were having our pedicures. The pedicure was lightening fast, and the girl that gave me mine seemed less than thrilled to be there. My friend and I were out the door less than 45 minutes from when we arrived and after dropping $80 a piece for the pedicure alone, we both felt a little had. Needless to say I was really disappointed in the whole experience. Im baffled really at their high rating on this site. Pros: the area Cons: over priced more

Poor customer service 5/22/2006

I recently found an expired gift certificate that I had rec'd for Mothers Day and misplaced during a move. Since it was paid for (versus a donation) I called to see if I could redeem it. The owner had an attitude from the get go. He made a very condescending remark about how "I just forgot to use the gift certificate for over a year?". He did allow me to book my massage however, I was treated so rudely that I have no interest in providing patronage to this spa. I have been there many times in the past and even recommended that friends try it. That will end today. I would have fully understood if he didn't want to redeem it if he would have given me an explanation but I was only treated badly. With SO many great spas in and around Portland, I will not miss Nirvana. more

The greatest massage!! 5/11/2006

This was my first spa experience, and can I tell you that I will do this again and again and again!! I had an eyebrow wax and massage. The wax was great, but let's talk about my massage! Timothy was my massage therapist, and he was GREAT!! He knew how to spoil a girl for sure!! Make sure you ask for him to get the best massage of your life!! Thanks Timothy!! more

Fun atmosphere! 2/1/2006

My sister and I have been celebrating our December birthdays at Nirvana for the past few years. We feel like queen for a day with champagne and just a great time! Cons: Parking more

Expert staff, great customer service 1/14/2006

I have always been treated like a queen here. It's a fun place and not snooty in the least. Everyone who works here is the best at what they do. Great place to have bridal shower parties and the like, they have lots of fun group packages. Pros: Atmosphere, Cocktail, Staff Cons: Watch 4 meter maids! more

The perfect day... 10/11/2005

My experience at Nirvana was above and beyond. I had an hour and a half hot stone massage with Erin that was simply the best massage I have ever recieved. Next, I had a facial with Laura that was heavenly as well. The staff was warm and very catering with any beverage that I desired. I feel that every penny I spent was entirely worth it. I would recommend it to everyone and I most definitely will be returning myself. Pros: Knowledgeable , Very friendly Cons: Parking was scarce more

Bad experience 8/27/2005

For my wife's 35th bday I got her the "Queen for a day" package. Sunday #1, 20 minutes before her 4 hour journey to pampered relaxation the spa calls to say "Oh we can do the massge but the mani/pedi won't happen today. No problem, we recheduled for the next week. Sunday #2, my wife shows up and they tell her "Oh we can do the manucure & massage but not the pedicure." Defeating the whole purpose of a package deal where you get the royal treatment. So my wife forgoes both the mani/pedi for a later date. The aparently don't know how to schedule or do not have a reliable staff. AlsoI was specific that my wife wanted a female to massage her -to my wife's dismay it was a man. (my wife did say the massuese did a great job). No discount, no deals, no apologies. My service, neveragain. Pros: mass. therapist Cons: scheduling, attitude, office staff more

User review by sueporter1234 8/17/2005

I have been to many day spas, and I was looking forward to going to Nirvana. I had heard so many wonderful things about it. I took two of my girlfriends, and I have to say it was so impressive. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful receptionist. Offered our favorite libation, and given 3 great pedicures and manicures, by three friendly and fun technicians. The way the pedicures are presented is very different and was a nice surprise. I would love to go back and try the other services they offer. Highly recommened! Pros: Wonderful surrounding, Very friendly, very attentive, Clean Cons: Parking seemed a litt more

Eh...not so nirvana-esque 8/14/2005

I've been twice now for pedicures. Both times, not excited. The first time I really wanted a relaxing experience, but the half-drunk bridal party there ruined that idea. I was apologized to for the spa neglecting to mention it over the phone when I booked. Then was promised if I came back "they'd take care of me". I came back, it was quieter, but the actual pedicure itself was unimpressive and the painting looks shabby. So for the money, not worth it. I haven't tried any of their other services and the owner seems like such a nice guy, I hate to write this in one way, but that was my experience. Pros: Clean, Attentive more

Excellent Masseuse, Average Service 4/30/2005

I had a massage at Nirvana day spa. The receptionist was very short and unpleasant with me; however, my massage was excellent. The masseuse was obviously very trained in what he was doing. That part was well worth it. Conversely, afterwards, I was not led into any room to relax or sip tea and things felt awkward and forced. I actually had to ask the massuese what to do when I was done! And we all know the post-massage daze we get in after an hour long rubdown. It was a huge letdown. Other than those disappointments, I found the decor and the skill of the massuese to be great. Also the male receptionist on my way out was very much different that the female one when I arrived. He was very understanding and pleasant! Pros: Decor, Massages Cons: Rude Receptionist, No post massage relax more

spa day 2/4/2005

When I arrived the staff was friendly and right away asked if I needed anything. They did a great job of making me feel comfortable. I had a facial, body scrub, massage and a pedicure w/a lunch thrown in there. Everything was wonderful except the lunch. The food was good, but for what you pay, you'd think it'd be a bit more. Not only that, they serve you lunch on a wicker tray that you have to hold on your lap on your own, while getting your pedicure. I couldn't relax and enjoy my pedicure because I was too busy trying to eat & hold the tray on my lap, make sure the water glass didn't fall of the tray. SOOOO inconvient. I would not recommend doing the spa cuisine at all. And make sure if you decline the lunch to request they deduct the price off your bill. Pros: great staff, relaxing atmosphere Cons: lunch, price more

Nirvana is good 2/3/2005

OK - so I go to ALOT of spas. Nirvana met my expectations. The key is that it met my expectations - not exceeded them. I expected the nail technicians to gossip, I expected a louder environment, I got what I expected. Nirvana's plus is the creative decor - the pedicure area is really a bonus. The perfect "little spa" to go to with a girlfriend for a pedicure. I've had a facial there also on a different occasion and it wasn't anything. Poor timing, adequate service - I wouldn't ever go back for a real spa service. If I didn't know better I would think this business is owned by nail techs - everything else seems like an after thought. Pros: Near Jameson Fountain, Feels interesting Cons: Gossipy, Everyone talks "fast" more

Excellent 7/10/2004

I just moved to PDX and If you want a Brazilin, go here. Ive been waxing for years and this place is the tops. The esthetician is competent, fun and just a kick. The whole place has class. Well worth the price. Pros: Service, Knowledge, Location more

So Very Lovely 7/10/2004

I went to Nirvana for the first time and was I happily surprised. I walked in really nervous. The front desk lady knew it instantly and put me immediately at ease. Then Christine took me back and started the Brazilin. I couldnt believe it, I felt like I had known her for years. We were done before I knew it in the most comfortable and efficient manner possible. Then she gives this wonderful facial, relaxing, throws in a heavenly massage, and gently coaches me on what I can do to improve my skin I loved it and my skin felt great! She is such a lovely, competent person. Go there, youll love it! Pros: Great People, Competence, Engaging more
