ok, we went in with 700pm reservations and were seated immediately. great start. friendly help all around. from the maitre d, to the server, to the runners, etc. nice. atmosphere was great, too. tables a little cramped sure, but this is lower manhattan, what do you expect? music was nice. we went with multiple ""quartinos"" for wine which i was told were 1/3 of a bottles. what you get is two glasses. all was well wine-wise, tho. apps were nice, the pasta we had was their ricotta and sausage gnocchi. good stuff. completely tasty and edible and served in very cool little bowls, etc. nothing too extraordinary i'd have to admit but good nonetheless. the secondi we ordered on the other hand was very nice. my partner thought it was a bit too salty and i can definately agree that you have to enjoy batali-style hardcore italian food to like it (read: a bit heavier on the salt than most of us are used to). it was the ligurian fish stew. FULL of all manner of ocean dwellers. awesome. the dessert was their buttermilk pana cotta which was deelish too. VERY tangy with the taste of buttermilk in every scoop, and dressed with these candied (?) cranberries on top. wonderful. then it was on to grappa (i didnt care for it but then it was my first time...) and coffee. i ordered just plain black coffee which was conspicuously NOT on the menu and what arrived at my table was something akin to what in Italy they would call a cafe americano - that is to say, it was an espresso extruded with, say, twice as much water. so, it ended being like a nice little cup of black coffee with crema! not too bad at all:) she had a cappucino which was nicely done, too.
Pros: nice help, great atmosphere, good food
Cons: a bit pricey, thats all
