terrible service decent food= subpar dining 12/4/2011

i was waiting for what seemed like an hour and change for my steak, which wouldnt have been so awful if i wasnt met with extremely rude gestures from my waitress when i inquired about the delay. when the steak arrived, the seasoning was decent , but it was overcooked. the experiecne wasnt terrible, but with so many options in this big city why settle for less? more

Batali's comments and insensitive and hurtful 11/16/2011

I can't believe Batali is comparing bankers to Hitler and Stalin. Agree with the previous post that it is completely insensitive. Why can't he just stick to making food? I can only assume that if he is busy attending conferences and media events offering his political views he is definitely not paying attention to his businesses and the quality of his food. Given this, and the insensitivity he recently displayed in comparing bankers to Hitler, I will no longer eat at his restaurants and will encourage others to do the same. more

Boycott Mario Batali Restaurants 11/9/2011

Mario Batali's recent comment comparing bankers to Hitler and Stalin are downright disgusting and irresponsible (reference at bottom of review). While there are many views on bankers during these challenging times, his references to such dictators who executed many people for their religion and / or beliefs is hurtful and ignorant. I do not believe it is in this world's best interest to support him or his restaurants given his most recent comments. google or search for the following article as a reference: ""mario-batali-apologizes-for-comments-comparing-bankers-to-hitler-stalin"" more

Worst Service 10/2/2011

DO NOT GO HERE! The horrible service would make Mario B embarrassed! The hostess should be fired. We went in earlier and told her we would like a table in an hour. She said no problem. When we returned she said it would be about an hour and half to 2 hour wait. She did not even apologize..she kept acting so unprofessional. There a tons of restaurants in NYC with better food and service so don't waste your time! more

Did they change Chiefs 8/16/2011

When I booked the reservation, I requested seating in the front of the restaurant. However, they seated us in the back room. The meat platter appetizer and beets were great, but the calamari was a lot of grains and very little calamari, but it was ok. They need to bring back the wine Stewart because the waitress selections we very poor and she did not listen to what we were requesting. The food / wine pairing was unsatisfactory this visit. We went there for the Braciola and it was poor at best. It was burnt on the bottom, cold, tuff and they did not stuff it like the last time we were there. All the sauce and stuffing was on the top, not inside it and it was bitter. We are from CA. and we make it a point to visit Lupa?s every time we are in NYC, but this will be our last time there. Mario B. where are you? You need to monitor this restaurant!! If you?re thinking about going to this restaurant, think twice. more

Best Italian In NYC 7/5/2011

I get giddy when I think of eating and drinking at Lupa. I compare it to all other italian places in the city. I have been coming to Lupa for 5 years and have always had a wonderful time with good food, wine and service. The past winter there was a dish I absolutely jonesed for. The skirt steak with mushrooms and truffle polenta was the best thing on earth. I went during the spring and they subbed the polenta and shrooms for a skimpy veggie---dissapointing, but the steak was still good. more

it was ok food 4/3/2011

Not so great 2/18/2010

Not sure if it was the company or the place that made this such a bland night. The hostesses were very un-welcoming which seemed to defeat the purpose of their said positions. After waiting for over an hour for a table at a bar where you could barely raise your arm to sip your drink, we were finally seated...on top of another couple which is signature Mario. The food was decent and very well priced, but small in size and just ok. I will give it that the pasta was al dente and somewhat tasty, but there was nothing memorable about the meal. Just very average all around. I wish these celeb chefs would visit their restaurants more often as they do such injustice to NY cuisine. Pros: food Cons: long waits more

don't fall for the hype 1/27/2010

I have lived in Manhattan for nearly 40 years and this was the worst meal i have ever experienced. What was described as Duck confit with pear sauce, was actually deep-fried and overcooked and served swimming in a horribly acidic pool of apple cider vinegar reduction. The chicken was so dry, that it could not be swallowed without washing it down with water. A broccoli rabe appetizer was so foul, that 3 of us had to spit it out into our napkins. Batali's success is clearly a product of his marketing savvy and while he may be a genius at branding, he is a crap chef and his restaurants are testimony to how you can sell anybody anything in this celebrity obsessed culture Cons: Dreadful food more

horrible waiter 12/5/2009

I was a big fan of this restaurant for a long long time but these days I feel very disappointed by how those waiters treat us. I have to admit ....with this, whole dinner is spoiled. I will never go back there. more

WORST SERVICE/ATTITUDES 10/11/2009

I couldn't agree more about the nasty attitudes at Lupa. We made a reservation over 2 months ago for 7 people and the only time we could get was for 9:30. 6 out of the 7 people arrived promptly but were told we could not be seated until everyone was physically present (which was ridiculous considering we all had to wait outside since there was nowhere to stand other than on top of the poor table of people that were sitting by the door). When the 7th person arrived we were told our table was given away and it would be at least another 45 minutes until another table would be available. No one had the decency to let our party know this was going to happen. When we said we were leaving they were extremely aggravated (as if we were inconveniencing them). We ended up at a restaurant a few blocks down called ""Scuderia"" with wonderful, attentive service and great food! I would not waste your money at ""LUPA""-the food might be good but the service is horrific! Cons: Nasty Attitudes more

a disgrace! 10/7/2009

Do NOT bother with lupa. I was actually shocked at the way the staff and gm was treating my party of 5. Trying to make a birthday special for someone turned into a birthday nightmare! Besides serving us disgusting clams out of a can and trying to charge $15 for them; they rushed us out of the restaurant before we even brought out the bday cake . The bill for 5 came out to $386 and you think these people would appreciate their customers. They politely told us to f*ck off and in return, i do the same. Pros: zilch Cons: horrible service, worst gm, small plates more
