Best

It seems the past is behind Koji's as they continue to make improvements to a restaurant that seemed to be on the decline. I visited this weekend and I have to say when they sat ...

Worst

This used to be my favorite Japanese/ Shabu Shabu restaurant. The food is Great but the service is horrible and the staff is sketchy. My boyfriend and I ate lunch there today aft...

Needs new management 4/16/2007

I have been going to Koji's for the past 2 years and it has really gone downhill. Apparently, it has new management that is inexperienced and the owner doesn't really care about the place. I know this because my waiter told me himself. Last time I went there I had to wait 30 minutes for a table at 3 in the afternoon. (didn't look busy to me). Then when me and my friends were sat one of the burners didn't work at the table. The food is still really good, but frustrated with the way things are run. They need to get it together or they are going to start losing a lot of business!!! Pros: Nice bartenders, good food Cons: Slow service more

Horrible Service......Needs new mangement......always understaffed!!!!!! 4/16/2007

I have been to mostly every Shabu Shabu restaurant in SoCal and Koji?s used to be a favorite of mine as they had friendly wait staff, above average food quality, and reasonable prices. Unfortunately that has all gone down hill. more

Horrendous service, overpriced mall food 2/20/2007

Saying that the service was terrible would be an understatement. Our waitress was a big-boned brunette girl who overcharged us, was rude regarding the error, then continued to argue (unintelligently) about it. Beware and make sure to look over your check. Pros: in a mall Cons: tastes like its in a mall, linear seating not good for groups unless you don't want to talk to them. more

Great food, good prices, variety 9/5/2006

I'll admit that Koji's doesnt have the greatest service and they are often slow but I never had any negative experiences and i do go there occasionally. But the food is simply delicious. The shabu sauces they have are the best I've ever tasted as well. The sushi is also pretty good but I normally just go for the Shabu Shabu. I would recommend this place to anyone though. It gets really busy at peak hours there however so expect a lot of noise during dinner time, and a 15-30 minute wait. Pros: Great food Cons: slow service, very noisey during peak hours more

Nothing special... 8/7/2006

I was so disappointed. Although the waitress was very nice, the service was horrible...she never remembered anything (our drinks, our appetizers, our refund...we'll get to that). Also, we were seated at a table where the overhead lights were out. We got there before dark, so as soon as it started getting dark (and after our food had arrived and was cooking in the pots), we asked them to turn on our lights (everyone else's lights were already on). The waitress apologized and said she would get someone to turn them on - after seeing her taking orders at other tables, we called someone else over - they informed us that the lights at our table were broken. We asked for a manger - seemed ridiculous to seat people at a table where the overhead lights were broken and we were eating shabu-shabu (you cook your own food, if you can see what you're cooking). Anyway, the manager came and make a comment how those lights were always going out but he could fix it...which he did (I'll give him that). Needless to say, the food was just okay (at best). My husband ordered the tuna/sashimi and it was bad - we asked them to take it back and he did not want to chance another order so we just asked for a refund. Needless to say, our dining experience at Koji's was a bust...I couldn't wait to get out of there and go eat crepes next door. Pros: Nice, but forgetful waitress - not sure if you can call that a "pro" but that's the best I can do. Cons: Everything! more

Going down hill .... dirty tables, poor service, old food 7/27/2006

I use to love this place, but it has since gone down hill. The stuffing is falling out of the chairs, the tables are absolutely disgusting, the burners are all broken, the service is practically non-existent, the hostesses are incompetent, and they are ALWAYS out of silverware! I would not recommend this place ... or at least not until they get their act together. Cons: poor service, dirty tables, long waits (when not even busy) more

Get the room in back 6/8/2006

Went there with a group of 10 and we fit perfectly with the 10 burners in the private room in the back. It is kitchy, being in the hollywood and highland center, but perfect if you want a bunch of people to try something different without breaking the bank. With drinks and some appetizers, we paid 35 dollars on average. more

Yum! I'm addicted! 3/17/2006

I eat at Koji's at least 2x a week. The food is not only great, but great for you. I usually go during lunch, where the price is cheaper (smaller portions, though) and I have a lunch card (get 8 punches, the 9th lunch is free!). They also do karaoke (Tues and Thurs) and have a DJ playing music on the weekends. It's not only a great place to dine, but I'm often there hanging out at the bar or enjoying the atmosphere. All the bartenders are great. Sometimes, because more and more people are realizing how terrific the food is, they may be a bit understaffed so you may wait a bit for a table or your food. But I've never minded--it's well worth the wait! Pros: food, drinks, staff Cons: understaffed at times, a bit pricey more

Fantastic, fun food & service 1/21/2006

I have to admit I had my doubts at first. Why would I want to PAY to COOK my own food? We had such a good time! Our server, Darryl, was the best. He explained exactly what we needed to do and brought us 'cheater' chopsticks without even being asked (and boy was I thankful!!). It's a bit loud but definately a fun and social place! We even went back for karaoke! It's a definate DO NOT MISS if you're visiting the Hollywood/LA area! Pros: fun, great location, great food Cons: loud more

Poor Service Experienced 11/29/2005

I went here for the first time with my family. The place was recommended to me. Upon entering the restaurant, the place is only less than half full at this time (late afternoon); we were told to wait by the receptionist. After waiting for a couple of minutes, the receptionist just left. We were trying to talk to the servers but nobody was kind enough to talk to us. They just passby and seemed nobody was there. Service was very very slow. They don't seem to care at all. The only think i liked was the crunchy california roll. Cons: poor service more

My FAVORITE restaurant in LA 8/4/2005

I dine out at least once a week, and Koji's is still the winner in my book. I only have shabu-shabu when I come here because it's simply unbeatable. You get so many options with each dinner (fresh veggies, 2 kinds of noodles, different dipping sauces, tofu) that every bite can be a unique experience. It's so fun to be able to cook your food just the way you like it (in water, so no oil or fat is added), and their sauces are divine. For a group, they have a great circular room in the back. Pros: the Best food, fun to cook your own , healthy Cons: can get steamy & warm more

Fun Restaurant-Good Food-FORGOT US IN THE CORNER! 5/5/2005

Ther wife and I decided to try Shabu shabu...we had a great time its a healthy nutritious way to eat and you do get full. Unfortuantely we did get seated in a corner and forgotten about. The ironic thing was people that came in as we were finishing were served thier raw food straight away. I asked my wife, ""how long does it take to put some raw meat and vegatables on a plate?"" maybe they were understaffed. We will give it another try. I would reccomend the food. more

Fun Dining Experience 10/10/2003

I was looking for a fun LA dining experience for my in-laws and decided upon Koji's Shabu-Shabu. We all got window seats with our own boiling pot and a great view of the H&H complex. The waiter was very friendly and explained how to eat Shabu-Shabu and even demonstrated it for us. The food was great and we all had a good time. Koji's is definately a great place to bring your friends from out-of-town. Pros: Hands-On Dining, Service, Location Cons: Somewhat Pricey, Loud more

excellent,fun restaurant 7/20/2003

My sisters and I tried shabu shabu for the first time at this restaurant. We really enjoyed ourselves and the food was so good and really fresh since you prepare it yourself. We thought the seating was appropriate because everyone has a window view and their own heating elements. It was a great experience and the service was friendly and attentive. We've priced shabu shabu in our city and it's $54 for two people so what we paid was a real bargain. We will definitely return to Hollywood just to eat there again....Go there and try it.. You'll love it! Pros: fresh, friendly & fun, Reasonable prices Cons: too far from Vegas, but worth the drive more

Best Shabu Shabu 2/4/2003

Kojis Hollywood is by far the best Shabu we've had. You pay for it, but, it's significantly better than any other we've tried. Menu selection? C'mon it's shabu shabu. What are you looking for? Here's a tip: During the week get there from 7 - 9 for happy hour. Order all your drinks from the bar at 1/2 price. Weekends, it's from 9 - 11. Pretty good deal. more

What in the heck is Shabu Shabu?!? 8/9/2002

Shabu Shabu is Japanese for Swish Swish. Swishing your own food here is one of the most enjoyable dining experiences out there (will make much more sense after you visit!) The atmosphere is light, comfortable and the staff is amazingly friendly. This place is at the top of our list of favorite restuarants! Don't miss their location at the Block in Orange (Be sure to have Jon or Michelle serve you)! Pros: Great Food, Ecellent Bar, Amazing Servers Cons: moderately priced more
