I've eaten at most sushi places in the Chicago area, as well as many in Asia and other parts of the world. Kamehachi is OK sushi, but not great. The rice is not high quality sus...

mmm it is one of the best sushi restaurants in the city! more

just...YUMMY 9/16/2010

Kamehachi offers consistently great food. The sushi is dee-lish, the tempura is just...YUMMY, the salmon teriyaki is super flavorful, and the vibe is on point. While there are other Japanese restaurants in the city with more daring or trendier menus and just OK food, Kamehachi never fails to impress. more

There's better sushi 6/16/2008

It was nice to have a private room--that much we loved for our large group. The terrible part was how hot the place was! Even with the fan on.\r We ordered the ""boat sampler""---don't do this!!! There was so much leftover it was terrible that the waitress even had the nerve to ask if we wanted to order two boats! We told her 5 people were sharing this boat and she wasn't sure there'd be enough. Please! This boat will serve 20 people! Plus, I have to be a food snob, it's not the best sushi by any means. Try something else insteadl. Pros: private dining Cons: staffs lack of knowlege, hot rooms, didn't feel ""clean' interior more

I love this resturant, the city and the suburb location. I order from here on a weekly basis. Delivery is fast & the sushi is always really fresh. If you are a picky sushi eater, this place is great. more

Editorial review from GrubHub 1/23/2008

Kamehachi is always good but this delivery was especially delicious. Tried some new roles and would highly recommend the spicy deluxe deluxe tuna roll and the summer roll was good too. A couple of pieces had fallen apart during the delivery but it was easy enough to manage. more

My Personal Favorite 1/23/2008

Kamehachi has something for both the uber-trendy and the old-fashioned. Their menu ranges from inventive sushi, if you're feeling all fancy, to traditional dishes like tonkastu, soba, and udon, if you're in a homier mood.\r \r For the location and the quality, Kamehachi's prices are actually quite reasonable. It's not McDonald's, folks--it's a nice Japanese restaurant in a major American city. While it's easy to drop quite a bit of bank here, the Maki-Mono menu has lots of rolls, many of them from $3.95 to $6.95 for six rolls. So, you can actually get quite a bit of sushi for very little money if you stick with maki.\r \r I've had great servers here. I recommend going for a table in the upstairs lounge, which is open late, even on weeknights.\r \r NOTE: It's standard restaurant practice, from the Golden Nugget to Kamehachi, to charge an automatic gratuity of 15-18% for parties of a certain size, and it's always printed on the bill. This is so servers don't work their asses off on a large party only to get stiffed at the end of the night. I only mention this because there seems to be some confusion in an earlier review. Pros: Oishii desu yo! (Delicious!) Cons: Parking can be tricky. more

Bunch of thieves!!! Check your credit card statement after going there! 9/10/2007

They give themselves tips at your expense so watch out! We're never going there again.\r \r The risk isn't worth taking either since their food quality is below mediocre anyways. Cons: They'll steal money from you! more

Very overpriced, horrible service! 5/10/2007

My boyfriend and I are huge fans of takeout sushi and have tried most of the places around lincoln park. We decided to try Kamahachi for the first time becasue it was 10:30pm on a Thursday and nothing else was open. We spent 20 minutes attempting to make an online order, only for it to tell us the online system was not functioning after we had submitted it. So we finally just called and ordered $50 in sushi, which should have been more than enough food. (Our average bill at other sushi restaurants is around $30 for takeout). However, after waiting over an hour for our food (even though we live a mile away and you wouldn't think a restaurant would be super busy at 10:30) the portion sizes were so small that we were both starving after devouring every little portion of our food. more

Good quality sushi at multiple locadtions 11/27/2006

I like Kamehachi in Old town better than other locations. Sushi is good, but I wouldn't rate it one of the best in Chicago. Old town location has a hip lounge that's located in upper level. It's open late on weekends. Service is better at the Old town location than the one in downtown. Pros: Lounge is hip and trendy. Quality of sushi is consistent. Cons: Service can be slow at times. Fewer selections compared to other popular sushi restaurants in Chicago. more
