Editorial review from Citysearch 8/16/2012

I have been coming to Joya for years because their food is good and cheap. However, their service is horrible, particularly from the guy who takes your name for a table. He is obnoxious and rude and just not worth the hassle. There are a million Thai restaurants in NYC so I don't understand why he thinks he can talk to people as if he couldn't care less whether they eat there or not. The place is extremely loud, doesn't take reservations (so the wait is always at least 30 min) and doesn't accept credit cards. The ONLY good thing is the food. Otherwise, just not worth the inconvenience and certainly not worth the verbal abuse you receive. more

low budget meets great food. I can't really afford to dine out as often as I'd like however JOYA is one of those places were they really good food for anyone espcially someone like me who is on a tight budget more

I'm a big thai fan, and I love curry, 5/21/2012

I'm a big thai fan, and I love curry, especially the yellow or massamune kind. This place has a nice atmosphere, decent service, and did I mention the curry? There's plenty to fill you up. All in all, from the many thai restaurants in the city, this one is definitely one of the better ones. Recommended! more

good meat but salad wasnt too fresh 1/24/2012

the toppings on the salad seemed a bit stale but the meat was alright. service was prompt and the atmosphere was fun, overall id come back but not in a rush. more

Not too impressed 8/9/2011

Although we were seated and served promptly, the waiter refused to 'split' the check. All entering are NOT couples. OK, then they do not accept credit cards which should be clearly displayed before entering or have an ATM machine on the premises. Food was not the best, as the dish I had with ginger had clumps of ginger. The mango's used in the salad were definitely not ripe. more

Great place to be , excellent food to eat 4/29/2011

The first time i was there 5 months ago, it was a bit mysterious what i can eat , with so few boxes i had. Well, i ate like a pig - literarelly - and i was happy like a cow! It was amazing the quantity of food over there. And not cheap food, but REAL, quality, very delicious and with excellent service. Since then, we go there at least once per week. I gain a few pounds of course, but who cares?^^ more

Good and Cheap 2/12/2011

To keep it simple, Joya is a cramped up place. Filled up all the time at night, and there is a reason why. The food is authentic and it is cheap. The owners are nice as well. You can't go wrong with this place. more

One of my favorite spots 12/26/2010

I've been going to this place for a little over 2 years and it's one of my favorites! The price is really cheap, and the food is AMAZING. I suggest the Thai iced tea and the chicken in coconut curry sauce. But word to the wise, prepare for a wait after 8pm more

Favorite for date nights 11/26/2010

Take my word this is the best restaurant to go to for date nights and the reasons are endless; the prices are beyond affordable, im talking appetizers as low at 2.95 and main dishes for 7$, but trust me once you try the food youll pay more for it, its delicious. more

Best thai place in bk and ny 11/16/2010

Best thai food in Brooklyn and the city. Ive tried countless thai restaurants (its my fav cuisine), the prices are cheap and the food is exceptional, and the mango mojitos are to die for !! more

good food horrible service 8/23/2010

The food is excellent. The service is poor!! Don't go into there with a baby, child or stroller-they look at you as if you are from out of space. The matra de` was very rude; he told me that i could not sit at a particular table-the table was ideal because i had a stroller. the table remained vacant for the two hours that we were there. We returned from a long trip and wanted to get something to eat at what we thought was a good establishment. He then told us we had to wait and later summoned me to be seated with his hand. i questioned if he was talking or referring to me because the music was loud and it was dark. It was not too crowded however as it was a Sunday 8/22/10 night and rainy. Once directed to the table, he rudely and boldly snatched the chair from under the table in an effort to make room for the stroller and my two other guest. I just hope that he is not the owner and just the floor manager--his character throughout the entire time i was there was horrible. The numerous times that I have been there the staff rate a 2 out of a possible 5. Please excuse any errors in the text. Dr. T. As for the waitress, she was annoyed because I asked to to change my food because there was eggs added in the rice as a filler. I explained myself numerous times that i was in the rest room when my guest placed the order. Also, I was not aware that eggs were added to the seafood mixed rice. The reasturant is dark and the menu did not boldly display any item that people are likely to get an allergic reaction as a result of.... more

Joya is a Joy 8/18/2010

Joya, Thai Restaurant and Bar\r 215 Court Street\r Brooklyn, NY\r \r 718 222 3484\r \r We almost walked past Joya with its discreet frontage, but inside we found a large, clean, noisy and very hip dinning room with an open kitchen and an occasional DJ. There is also a much quieter delightful garden aea in the back.\r \r Joya is very inexpensive, the highest price entrée is $ 8.95, but the food is first rate. We ordered the Mango salad, a Glass noodle dish and a Beef Curry. The portions were very large. \r \r The Mango salad was topped with perfectly ripe Mango and the greens were flavored with fish sauce, lime and cilantro…yum. The Glass noodle dish was very large and filled with goodies. The Beef Curry was very flavorful and a little spicy, but with in normal limits and almost too big to finish. With a Thai beer a feast for $ 24!\r \r There is no website for Joya, no reservations, no credit cards, and no air conditioning although the space was cool on a hot day. The drink list is a handwritten addendum to the menu and there seems to be no desserts, very strange.\r \r With first rate food and an inexpensive price list Joya is indeed a find.\r \r for more see www.ditmasestates\r more

Food was average 3/12/2010

We had were attending a training in the area and ordered out from here. While the ambiance was impressive the food was averagea. We ordered our food to go and my entree was missing. It took them a while to deliver the missing dish. It was just average as was the rest of the food. Nothing really stood out. more
