million dollar cuts 7/28/2006

I have never had a cut as flattering as the one Janel did for me. I still have 15 pounds to go and so a flattering cut is all the more important to me. Janet took her time and studied my face before cutting. We discussed the placement of a part. She commented on my hair, and she stared and stared at my face before deciding what to do (I had given her complete artistic license).\r I have had terrific stylists before but none were as terrific as this one. I am collecting compliments at work for three months now. Just had a second cut yesterday which is as good or better than the first. \r You can't beat talent. I am impressed with Janet's artistry. I discovered Janet a few months ago after having some mediocre color treatments and couldn't be happier. Janet really listens to her clients and gives good advice about how to care for my curly hair. I'm really glad I found her salon. more

Best Hair Cut, Color and Service 7/27/2006

Love my long unhealthy hair, hate getting it cut, however, moment I walked into Janet Rufin's Parlor, felt comfortable and relaxed, not too trendy or formal, just right. Kevin did an incredible job with my gloss and assistance with color - nice, consciencious and precise. Janet took over the rest of the color and then cut. Listens well to what you want and what she believes will work for you. Smart, cool, relaxed and so precious in her color and cutting. So happy with my cut and color, go for both when you visit Janet Rufin's Parlor. I am hooked and spreading the good word about this gem of a hair salon! more

My New Favorite Salon 7/25/2006

It was a great first experience! Loren was the first ever to color my hair and did a fantastic job. I couldn't be happier. The salon was as comfortable as being in your home. Everyone was as nice as can be and very helpful with all their opinions. John even stayed late to meet me and consult with me on ideas for my next cut. I'm going back again for a color with Loren and a cut with John. Pros: clean, professional, and very pleasant environment more

Wavy Frizzy Hair 6/23/2006

Janet somehow cut my wavy, frizzy, thick, shoulder length hair into such great shape that I do not even need to use a hair dryer! All I use is a little silicon and let it air dry. It is basically a miracle. I was lucky enough to find Janet after trying just about every fancy salon in Manhattan. Janet takes her time to really understand what you want and she figures out how to get it done. Thank you! Pros: Very professional Cons: Pricey more

After months of searching for someone who would listen to me, I finally found Janet! She cut and colored my hair with careful thought about a color and style that would be right for me. She took the time to talk with me about her ideas and made sure the results were perfect in the end. The salon atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed, and the staff is great! more

Best hair dresser, very professional!! 6/21/2006

Masako Suzuki has given me the best hair cut I ever had. They were also able to fix my color that was ruined by my previous colorist!! They only recommend what you really need. Everyone is friendly and the saloon is open and bright so you feel comfortable and relaxed. I would definitely recommend this saloon. more

The search is over! 6/20/2006

I love, love, love Mary and this salon ! After highlighting my hair for years, I decided to go all blond for a while. After a few months of my mother burning my hair off, I went to another colorist, which was a complete disaster. The other colorist damaged my hair further AND turned it green in the process. I got no sympathy or enouraging feedback from either that colorist or any of the others with whom I did consultations prior to coming to Janet Rufin's Parlor. So when I got to JRP, I was practically in tears. Mary was SO kind and reassuring at a time when I could not have needed it more. She fixed my hair and would not let me leave until I was happy. Since then, I have returned and she did an even more beautiful job. I've shopped around a lot over the years, unable to find a skilled, consistent colorist, so I am so happy to have finally found Mary. She is a wonderful, warm person and a great colorist, and the environment of the salon is so comfortable and mellow - the whole experience is truly a pleasure. Pros: Everything! more

Janet did a great job coloring/highlighting my brown hair. The results were exactly what I wanted - very natural looking. The salon itself is in a very comfortable space and the staff is not pretentious at all. I can't wait to go back! more

i've been following john and loren from salon to salon because they've never disappointed me. my first time here i could see that janet rufin's parlor was an environment that made them happy...and if they're happy, i'm happy because then i know i can always count on getting the cut and color i've come to love. john and loren are well worth a visit...and you'll keep coming back. more

Thanks for a Wonderful Experience 6/4/2006

It was my first visit to Janet Rufin's salon and enjoyed it immensely. Loren has been coloring my hair for several years now and I recently followed her to this salon. She is wonderful as she works her magic on my brown hair and gives me natural looking highlights. The salon has a really comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and all staff members were very friendly. It was a completely positive experience and I highly recommend it. more

Great Color 6/1/2006

I've wanted highlights for a long time but I was worried that it would be flat if I went for something natural. I walked out with beautiful highlights that no one noticed-- my friends just noticed that I looked great the next time they saw me without knowing why. Exactly what I wanted! The salon is comfortable, relaxed, and the staff was super nice. more

In the entertainment industry, you have to look your best. I've had my hair cut by a lot of nyc stylists, and after my first haircut with John I became a loyal client. John's attention to detail and his ability to consistently create a new look for me has caused me to trust him implicitly. I highly recommend John. You will not be disappointed. more

APPRENTICE PROGRAM 5/30/2006

I met Kevin on the street and he handed me a Janet Rufin's Parlor flyer, so I went over to check out the salon and made an appointment. I Went for my apprentice cut (with Kevin) yesterday and it was amazing. I love what he did, I finally have bangs that frame my face. With the guidance of Janet Rufin (who is a great teacher) I received the best hair cut of my life. Kevin is a great guy, very friendly, accomodating, good listener, gave me great styling tips. He seems very passionate about what he is doing, and it shows through in his work!! A++++++++++++++++ Pros: location, atmosphere, lighting more

Karen is amazing at color! Each time I go back to her the shade of my blonde hair gets more gorgeous! If you are blonde and need a colorist...Karen is your girl! The salon is very welcoming and very understanding when it comes to appointment changes. more

I highly Recommend Jant Rufin. Not only does her parlor have a wonderful atmosphere but the level of customer service is outstanding. Her individualized service is so personal and sweet and second only to her skill (which is cutting edge - especially as a colorist). John is a miracle worker. I have very thick curly hair and have had my share of poodle and pyramid hair styles in the past. John creates the most flattering shape with my hair, removing excess volume to control the curl. I used to prefer having my hair blown out straight, but not with John's style. Just a little product and I'm good to go. I love my curls now, and I love John. I'll never leave him. more
