I have been a loyal client of Janet for nearly 15 years - back when we both were young, wild and free !!! She has always given me fabulous haircuts and dynamic color. All the while Janet kept in mind what would be most flattering to my skin color, shape of my face and in harmony with my state of mind! I leave her salon feeling sexy and glamourous - Now that's the feeling you want !!!! Janet has created a hip and modern salon which is free of pressure and attitude. Best cut I've had in NYC! 1/9/2006

After receiving a offer of a complimentary cut through my job, I decided to try it out. Didn't expect much, after all it was complimentary. I was very happy with my former hair stylist, but this topped everything. Everybody was very friendly, and Mary gave me a fabulous haircut. She was extremely professional and gave me a lot of good tips. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended! Pros: Cut, Service Cons: Price more

I ad the best experience at the Janet Rufen Spa. Sandra give the most beautiful color highlights in NYC..She just looks at you and knows what color you should have..The spa is very peaceful and the stylists are all very good..I highly reccommend it!! Andrea Warshaw more

I went to Parlor for the first time on the day before leaving town for a family wedding. I was sick with a cold, but in desperate need of a cut and highlights, so I went ahead with my appointment with Mary. She was amazing -- so nice and accommodating of my cold (she even brought me tea). And my hair looked beautiful. The color was just what I wanted and the cut rocked. Such a relief for a first time visit! I'll definitely be back. more

i had never colored my hair, and used the same person for years for haircuts, untill i found Sandra. she listend and put me at ease imediately. the highlights that i was given were so natural that i was amazed. she gets them so close i couln't belive it. i was treated with so much respect, the staff is super friendly. the atmosphere is chilled, with no pressure. i am totally hooooked now. Janet has been doing my highlights for several years. I have followed her from her previous establishment to her new place, Parlor. In fact, I heard all about Janet's dream for opening Parlor as she conceived it every time I had an appointment with her over the past couple of years. Her work is outstanding -- I get compliments all the time on how great and natural my hair looks. The parlor itself is a cool, modern, comfortable place that reflects Janet's well appointed sense of style. Simply the BEST! 12/11/2005

I thought I'd lost her. Janet is the only person who EVER understood my head--at least the outside of it. Anthony, her old boss at Prieto, took her off cutting to concentrate on coloring which broke my manly heart. Earlier this year, walking across 19th St., I glanced in at the old Prieto salon to see her there, and HER name on the window. She's just as good (or better) than I remembered and that initial cut got me an UNPRECEDENTED three weeks of compliments (This is no lie!) The woman is magic. more

I had an excellent hair-experience as Janet Rufins Parlor. The atmosphere is upbeat, energetic, and also relaxed. Janet is fun and easy to talk to. We discussed my hair color and cut for twenty minutes before she got started. I had an all over hair color, whats called a single process, with a starburst of highlights. Its definitely one of the best hair colors Ive ever had. I also got a very good hair cut from one of her apprentices. So, my hair looks great and it was affordable. I highly recommend Janet Rufins parlor. They know what theyre doing with hair!!! (P.S. Bring cash for the tip.) more

Color so rich, dimensional and natural looking that no one thinks I've colored my hair. That's the best review! Deeply knowledgeable staff know how to give you exactly what you want. Mary Firlit changed my life! 11/29/2005

Walking into the parlor I was imediately at ease! Mary Firlit took so much time to just look at my hair, listen to what I do with it and then explain what she was going to do. Her attention to detail, incredible talent with color, cutting skill and warmth, created the best hair cut and salon experience I have ever had. Waling out, I felt like a new woman ready to take on this crazy city once again. She is with out a doubt, one of the most talented people in the field and I am singing her name all over the city! Not impressed by the staff or the cut 11/28/2005

Receiptionist wasn't friendly like the other salons. When i first walk in no one greeted me; other stylists just looked at me and continued their work. First thing they did is to wash my hair which took them less than a min. This girl barely scratched my hair and rinsed it off. I was thinking ""fine it just shampoo, no big deal as long the cut is good"". I sat down with my stylist; for the first 5 min everything was okay, until she reallize she double booked. So, the whole time she's cutting my hair she was looking at the clock or her next customer. My cut takes about 20 min ( my hair is 5 inch below my shoulder), The cut was okay, i could of paid way less for this cut elsewhere. I don't think i want to go back there or recommend this place to anyone. Pros: nice location Cons: cut more

Fantastic Cut and Blow out From a Charming Girl! 11/21/2005

My hair cut is fantastic!! And I left looking like a movie star!!! I always get nervous when I get my hair cut. I have had so many bad experiences (Think ""The Rachel"")!! So, I was a little apprehesive, but Mary made me feel comfortable. She gave me a very thorough consultation, and explained exactly what she was doing and why. She has such a charming personality and was a joy to talk to. The entire staff was friendly, a wonderful mix of personalities. The many words to describe the cumulative personalites of staff are charming, laid back, cool, off beat, friendly, funny, and sweet. Sandra does perfect highlights 11/21/2005

Wow! I am probably THE MOST difficult person to please when it comes to my hair, especially with color/highlights. I have been highlighting my hair for ten years and have finally found someone I trust. On my hair, she gives the perfect amount of blonde highlight with golden lowlight, so that the final outcome looks natural and beautiful. She gets very close to the root, which I have found not every stylist does. Her cuts are also to die for. And did I mention the shampoos are like having professional massages? I've been a client of Janet's for years and I've loyally followed her from place to place. Janet knows what she's doing--no attitude, no fuss--just a great haircut, and a pleasant experience in a cool, modern, relaxing space. It's hip, but it's comfortable. I can't recommended her or the salon too highly. I'm a guy so I've never had my hair colored and I don't really have enough to blow out, but I can tell you the haircuts rock. Based on all of the reviews I expected a great job on my single process color. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted, articulated it, but the results were far from what I expected. The finished product was not at all worth it. I wouldn't recommend it. Cons: Quality more

Get an appointment today with Mary! 11/13/2005

I just went to Mary at Parlor the other day and I have to share with everyone that I got the most amazing color, highlights, and cut to date. It wasnt just the end result it was the whole process. She really took the time to hear what I had to say and then look at my face and tell me what she thought would compliment me and my features best. The atmosphere was very pleasurable and relaxing. My color is so saturated and shining and it makes my skin tone enhanced and my eyes just pop. The cut is so trendy and sheik yet still able to put up for my job. I highly recommend it to anyone and you will definitely want to go back for more, I already booked my next appointment! Pros: valuable, experienced, Relaxing more
