Janet Rufin's Parlor

I wanted to thank Janet Rufin Parlor for making my new transformation. I started out with extremely dense, thick hair past my shoulders that I have cut recently. I have long jet black hair but I went too far last December and had a single color process done by another stylist to my virgin tresses and of course even the hair stylist was adamant to touch my hair. But I was relentless to shed my locks and strip my jet black hair of its lustrous natural color and went red. I was excited with the results but didn’t realize the maintenance it would take to retain that color so opted to grow my hair out, I guess letting color grow out is not a bad idea. Well for any stylist that’s a NO-NO but I didn’t care. Today, Janet and her team of color stylist wanted to take my hair off in stages as this was a drastic change I had never tried but was excited to embrace it! Sean with his quick techniques and savvy approach knew exactly what I needed to rehabilitate my tresses and Janet executed with such finesse I knew I was in good hands. I must admit I was a bit hesitant but after all, Sean has been featured on the W Magazines and Vogue and with Janet having featured on Allure, Bride, Time Out and New York and is known to be the best kept secret in highlights and coloring. \r \r So after assessing my current grown-out single color process, Janet and Sean laid out the most viable option in flooding my single process by using two different tones to create different reflections of light without being stripe looking highlights and the process was quick, efficient but the results just blew me away. \r \r Pictures may not do justice but I’m a hard buyer so to convince “muah”, it has to have a wow factor and this was an exciting experience but I must admit it’s more than a wow factor. This is my kind of place--relaxed, no-fuss atmosphere with careful, detail-oriented professionals. They are friendly and gracious, not cloying. Janet introduced me to her Spanish line of soy-based color, and i realized i'd always assumed you have to choose between the ideal color and the ideal texture--i'd always experienced color as a necessary evil. But Janet's color and her touch (nice consult, head massage, attentive assistant) have won me over! I highly recommend this parlor and consider the services a value, esp at this Gramercy Park location at the greenest corner of Irving Place.\r more

I have no idea how this place got so many good reviews. I went to JRP for a Brazilian Blowout Zero treatment I got on Groupon. The guy who did my hair was nice enough but the treatment did absolutely nothing for my hair. To the point where I don't want to call and complain because I wouldn't even go back if they offered to do it again. Aside from the treatment not working, my hair is very thick so it took a bit longer to blow dry. Jeff sort of passed me off to not one but two other women to blow dry my hair and he never checked up on me after that to see if I was satisfied. When I was all done the girl working the front desk asked if Jeff had explained aftercare and what not. Nope, he actually didn't explain anything about the whole process in general. She then told me that they ""highly recommend"" I buy the special Brazilian Blowout $32 shampoo and $32 conditioner. I asked if I could find a cheaper alternative at Duane Reade and she very reluctantly said yes.. but she couldn't even give me a brand to buy! They clearly want you to buy their products. Not worth it.. I went to Duane Reade and found something right away. Anyways, $200 down the drain! more

I went to Janet Rufin's Parlor to get a brazilian blowout and I am so glad that I did. I purchased a Groupon for the treatment and never had anything like this done before. I had read reviews here on CitySearch and was nervous by what some past clients had said. I was nervous but as soon as I got there, Brian made me feel so comfortable. he explained exactly what he was going to do and what would happen during the treatment. He was super attentive, always asking how I was doing. He did an amazing job on styling my hair afterwards how I usually do myself. I love the results! My hair has never been more straight, soft or smooth. I was able to wash and air dry my super curly hair with no products, blow drying or curlers necessary! It is the most unbelievable thing ever! If you have ever thought about getting the keratin treatment, Groupon or not, go to Janet Rufin's Parlor! You won't be dissappointed! more

I went to Janet Rufin's to get the Lazio Keratin Treatment. Maybe because I used a Living Social coupon they treated me differently, but regardless the treatment did not work. Vicki (who also washed my hair?) applied the treatment and although the people were very nice, it did absolutely NOTHING for my hair. I've gotten Keratin before and I know how it should turn out, and my hair still frizzes just as much as ever. When I called to complain, the man I spoke to on the phone told me that I didn't know what I was talking about and was rude and dismissive. I definitely do not recommend going to this salon unless you want to waste your time and money on processes that don't work. more

I underwent Japanese hair straightened with Sal at Janet Rufin's. I've been getting this processing for years and years now, but it was my first time with Sal. He did a FANTASTIC job. My hair came out silky straight and smooth, but not limp and flat. Moreover, my hair is in excellent condition. I'm really thrilled with the results. Pros: Great hair straightening more

My hair is wavy and has a mind of its own. I have had a hard time finding someone who can cut it in a way that lets me be able to be the wash and go kinda girl that I am. Stacey did an awesome job! She really listened to me and did what was needed to revive my hair. I would go back to her in a heart beat! more

I went to janets for the first time for a new look. Stacey listened to my needs and did a lengthy consultation to make sure she understood what i wanted(unheard of in other salons) She then gave me an amazing color and cut ,I left feeling great !!!!!!!!!! I recently visited Jenet Rufin's Parlor for the first time. It was a wonderful experience. Janet took the time to listen to my ideas and put in her own input/expertise so that together we could come up with a look I would love! Which Janet created spot on. The atmosphere in the Parlor is calming and modern. I know that I have found Janet Rufin's Parlor to be the place I shall always go for my hair needs! A pompus, self important pig! Her talent & luck of having that spot, is of a has been nature. Her Daddy bought her the place. She gave me leopard spots & was un apologetic about it. This info needs to be put out there. KARMA, in these economic times, your non sense& luck will not last. And there is a dirty dog that runs around the shop, that has to be some kind of health violation. Cons: YOU DONT HAVE TO GO BACK! EVER! more

Im new in the city and went to janet's to get my roots done. The stylist helping me must have put on something way too strong and it started to scold my head. She only left it on for a matter of minutes- not even able to finish coloring- because of the intensive pain. She claimed that i must have had an allergic reaction and did not seem at all apologetic. I now have fried roots, which is not an allergic reaction but her coloring error. When i talked to Janet about this she took no responsibility for her employee. Telling me she didnt do it, she seemed frustrated and annoyed with my speaking to her. She told me the only way she would fix it is if i paid her to. I understand beauty mistakes happen, but the lack of consideration really upset me the most. I have never had a worse salon experience. Cons: poor customer service and quality more

Found Janet Rufin's Parlor randomly , staff was great, service was terrific and atmosphere relaxing. The Keratin treatment results were awesome and have lasted for months. I am looking forward to going back soon for my next treatment and will be getting my haircut as well. Recommend this salon with no hesitation :) Pros: relaxing, nice staff, relaxing more

I just got my hair cut and colored by Yuval this week and the results are remarkable! I've been going to different stylists for the past few years in the area and everyone is pretty much all about their own egos and opinions until I walked into Janet Rufin's Parlor and asked for Yuval (he was recommended by a co-worker). I told him I wanted something cool and hip, but still conservative (i'm a investment equities attorney). He totally knew what to do with color and highlights as to not be toooo too edgy, but still a little rad. And the cut is equally amazing! Yuval (he told me i could call him YUVI) is such a fun person to talk to. My mom is scheduled to get fixed up by Yuval next week, and i've already recommended like 6 people from my job. Yuval has cut my hair twice so far; the first cut and blow-dry were AMAZING! I looked like a different person… Then Yuval cut my hair a second time and I decided to try a drastic cut this time. I fully trust Yuval to cut my hair 12”!!! I look fantastic, I get comments everywhere I go on how great my hair looks. Make sure to ask him about the hydrating treatment, it will change your hair! Yuval is hands down the best hairstylist in New York City! It takes a lot to trust someone with your hair, and I can't recommend him enough. I've been a client of his for about 5 years now. I am so excited every time I make an appointment. Yuval's energy is so contagious...he LOVES what he does and his whimsical passion to make someone feel amazing is off the charts. His style, both with cuts and color, is classy, edgy and vogue all at the same time. He is an attentive listener, not to mention attractive as hell! Yuval also has the most amazing moisturizing/scalp hydration treatments! EVERYONE should get one of these a few times a year, especially as we approach the cold/dry season. I can't recommend Yuval's services enough! You will walk away looking great and feeling great for spending an hour or two with him. Yuval has been my stylist of choice for the last several years. After going from salon to salon for years I was fortunate enough to land in Yuval's chair when he was recommended to me by another well respected stylist in the city. From the very first cut, he had me with his flair and sense of style. He is passionate about his craft and it is evident in his work. One of the many great things about Yuval is that he can create a new, fresh look that is stylish and maintainable. When I want a change. I just let him do what he does best and I can truly say that I've never been disappointed. Often times I leave feeling that it's the best cut and look I've ever had. I am highly recommending Yuval. First time visit: I met my new stylist Sayuri for a trim but I got antsy for a change... and made a last-minute decision to do a full chop. She walked me through it with MUCH patience and attention and I walked out with a perfect fresh cut - exactly what I wanted! Not to mention, the place is adorable and the staff is cool AND friendly (v rare in salons). \r \r I just decided to go back today for color. That should say it all.
