On this occassion, I received very poor service. I frequent McCormick restaurants frequently, and this visit was a major dissapointment. We we seated at a very small table, whic...

Happy Birthday to me 9/18/2005

What a wonderful birthday! My boyfriend made same-day reservations, and though we were 15 minutes early, we were seated promptly. Service was excellent - attentive without being overbearing, and when we got our menus, I gasped in delight upon spotting my name and a wish for a ""Happy Birthday"" from the staff at the top of the menu! What a sweet touch! But none sweeter than the wonderful slice of chocolate truffle cake topped with a candle at the end of the meal - on the house! Forget the negative reviews - remember that you get what you give... Pros: Ambience, Knowledgeable Servers, Great Food more

delicious 8/12/2005

since moving here jake's has been my favorite and i have never liked seafood. the halibut is amazing and banana cream pie is a must. we have never had any problems with service or not feeling welcomed as a previous reviewer had mentioned. the only thing i do advise is to be prepared to wait a few minutes, even with reservations. i promise, it's worth it. more

Anywhere u.s.a. 3/26/2005

For a place that is supposed to define the Pacific Northwest I want Jakes to try harder. The seafood is fresh but the preparations are average, like someone is limiting creativity in the back for the sake of tradition. My Dad likes it a lot. Pros: location Cons: dated more

Reservations? 11/28/2004

The only thing I was irritated with was that I had called a week and a half in advance to make reservations when I showed up they had no record that I had made these reservations. I also asked for a some what sucluded table that was quite so I could have a romantic evening with my wife. This also did not happen. other than that the food was very, very good. Pros: stuffed salmon, Potatos more

The Place is great!!! 9/3/2004

I had a great meal and a wonderful time in the bar, so nice to see a place celebrate the history of Portland in its decor, loved the murals and the paintings on the walls..the service was great..Traditional is the only way to go! Nice to see REAL people not the Chi Chi cell phone crowd. By the way, I have lived in Portland since 1970. Pros: value, decor!, service more

TRY THE LOBSTER! 8/13/2004

This place has definately earned it's rep as a superb Restaurant... I have been here many times, on dates and birthdays etc. My mouth waters when I think of the food they serve here... Definately a top Seafood Restaurant, if not THE TOP SEAFOOD RESTAURANT. Try it!!! more

Loved It 4/21/2004

This was our second time there and we simply love this place. A little spendy since everything is ala carte but food and service we excellent. Pros: Service more

Disappointment 3/20/2004

Wow, my husband and I had heard so much about Jake's since moving here and we were excited to finally eat at one of Portland's famous haunts. Haunting it was. I can positively say we were thoroughly disappointed. Our server was rude, inconsistant, inattentive, forgetful and sloppy. The hostess and cocktail server could not have tried harder to make us feel less welcome. Neither wanting to accommodate outside their 'job description'. The food was bland and commerical. The ceasar salad tasted like something out of a bottle. The scallops were drowning in instant mashed potatoes. It was a party of 12 and reservations were made more than a week in advance and they put us at two round tables. Shame on you Jakes. It is a real pity as the surroundings are very ornate, beautiful and stately. Thankfully the decor and our friends were welcoming. We won't be back. Pros: Beautiful interior Cons: , bland food more

Great food, great bar! 3/10/2004

This landmark is a must! Fun, and not as laid back as the other M & S restaraunts. Some of the best seafood in the Pacific Northwest. Fun bar, if a little cramped at times. Great Bartenders . I did mention how great the seafood was? Cool decor. Great atmosphere. Oh, and the seafood... Pros: best seafood, cigar friendly, fun atmosphere Cons: slightly cramped, occaisionally overcro more

Finest kind 2/10/2004

Jakes is a true gem of old Portland, elicting the feel of both an upscale restaurant and a neighborhood pub. The seafood is always fresh, and intelligently prepared. A good blend of favorite standbys like the stuffed salmon, as well as an interesting fresh sheet that blends with the seasons. The wine list is unique, with a Northwest bent, but excellent selections from around the world. Highly recommended Pros: wine list, food, service knowledge Cons: , expensive, loud more

We love it 10/23/2003

We absolutely love the food. We also love the casual comfortable elegance. One can feel comfortable in a pair of jeans or a prom dress. We did make the mistake once by going to Jake's Grill by accident after our first pleasant experience at Jake's Crawfish. We were not happy with the grill at all. The food was OK, and the waiter was snobby. We will never go back to that one. Try the chocolate boxed desert with fruit and share it. It's great! Comfortable place with well mannered kids Pros: liked booths, comfortable, nice staff Cons: expensive, small servings, could be noisy for so more

Jake's BashFish 9/6/2003

This is clearly at taste issue, and taste is the most that evaluate restaurants (not drinks, pickups, etc.). Does Jake's get good fish? I was pointed to Jakes as one of the best fish places in town. I doubt if its fresh and its presentation was too oily for good fish. more

pretty good but too much hype 8/30/2003

the food was pretty good but not that original. the service was attentive, but not the greatest. i don't think it's all that it's cracked up to be, but still worth a visit. Pros: unique ambience, cheap valet, quick service Cons: somewhat generic food, pricey more

The Best Seafood in Town! 7/30/2003

I've been to Jake's 6 times now and I have never been disappointed by the food or service. The food is top notch from the appetizers to the dessert. The fish is always fresh and comes with great sides. The prices are reasonable but the wine list is marked up quite a bit. I highly recommend the salad with honey glazed walnuts and bleu cheese. The restaurant gets quite crowded especially on Fri. and Sat. night. You will probably wait a few minutes even with a reservation. Pros: Excellent Food, Great Service, Reasonable Prices Cons: Wine List is pricey, No waiting area more

THE BEST!!!! 5/7/2003

Jake's is tha absolute best restaurant. The foos is amazing and the servers are the greatest! Pros: Taste Sensation, Great Atmosphere more

will have to try again 5/5/2003

We were a large party of 13, however 4 of us ended up at the other Jake's because of miscomunication and the other Jake's looked like it had a better ambiance. Luckily the 2 Jake's are walking distance from each other but when we got there, it caused a bit of tension on which place we were really supposed to make reservations for. Situations that happen such as these always affect a review, but I hope that I have overlooked that. The food was good, seafood fresh, although not inventive. As I browsed the rest of the plates, looked like all had the same sides. Desserts were the same, good but nothing that stands out and screamed for applause. One thing they should change is to get more comfortable chairs. Pros: fresh seafood, large menu Cons: hard chairs more

Great Seafood, Wonderful City 3/20/2003

After a 2-hour drive to Portland for a weekend-getaway, my family and I were looking forward to a delicious lunch in the heart of downtown. Jake's did not disappoint us! Though we had no reservations we were seated promptly during a rushed and crowded lunch-hour. The meal was a seafood lover's dream. The oysters, shrimp, calamari, halibut, and shrimp&crab cake were all perfectly cooked, all delicious. Server was expert -- helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Pick anything from the daily-catch menu, you won't go wrong. I highly recommend Jake's and can't wait to return. Pros: food, service, bar Cons: parking more

Jakes has the goods 1/6/2003

I try to dine at Jake's whenever possible. The atmosphere is just as good as the food. It is definitely a place to try something you normally would not try. Not only is the menu is extensive, but Jake's also has a great wine list to accompany it. more

It's not called ""famous"" for nothing 12/27/2002

I have had the good fortune to enjoy Jake's at least once a week for the last five years. The history is delightful and the service couldn't be better. We even interviewed the staff to determine the best suited to our personalities. Now we have the perfect team to match the perfect food. more
