Jake's Famous Crawfish has excellent, fresh seafood. The ambiance is nice, with historic appeal, but not exceptional. It's a popular place with Portlander's to go before theater or concerts. Not what you'd call a romantic restaurant though.
The chowders and bisque are full flavored and would be an excellent choice alone for lunch or light dinner.
The quality of service and food are both very good and consistently so. Tables are comfortable and easy to exit and enter. If you want a reliably good meal, but not gourmet, Jake's is the place to go.
