Mercer Street Medical has been my general physician place since I moved to New York 4 years ago, and I'm really happy with them. I almost always see Kate Lieberman (physician's assistant / obgyn) and she's wonderful - great bedside manner, helpful, and I never feel rushed when I'm asking her questions. She makes herself available and calls back if you have a problem or question. Saw Dr. Isaacs once or twice and he's plenty nice, and the staff are pretty much your straightforward doctor's office staff - maybe a little busy / disorganized at times, but they're always nice. I'm really happy with the place overall. more

After reading the scathing review of Dr. Isaacs, I too had share my positive experience. I have been going to Dr. Isaacs for about 20 years and he has always been attentive, thorough and willing to listen. Yes, he is harried, because he takes time with each patient. I have never had a problem with anyone in reception, they are never rude and always forthcoming if Dr. Isaacs is running late. I do not believe that anyone from this office yelled at a patient. Ever. I can not recommend Dr. Isaacs more highly and there are few doctors I trust as much as I trust him. more

Dr. Isaacs is caring, harried, brilliant, and has seen it all. Best diagnostician I have ever encountered. Worth the wait. Also exceptional is dermatologist Dr. Sapna Westley, along with a revolving roster of physicians for Ear, Nose and Throat, Podiatry - I've never had the pleasure of going to the doctor until I met Dr. Isaacs. Dr. Isaacs..hes one of those rare doctors who actually takes the time to listen. Sure, you might have to wait a little but the ladies at the front desk are more than happy to give you a heads up if he is running late (JUST CALL IN BEFORE YOUR APPT) He possesses every quality I look for in a doctor. He is truly a peoples person and his patients loyalty is undeniable (just look at all the artwork patients have dedicated to him). Also, I can't deny the fact that his PA, Kate is also an admirable PA. She is prompt, efficient and caring. I have been a patient of Dr. I's for quite some time now and speak from experience. If you are reviewing a DOCTOR, then review the doctor not his front desk staff (even though I think they are all extremely sweet as well- though I may be bias because I do treat them with respect as they work hard and I know they deal with very difficult people VERY often). They try their hardest to get in every patient who needs to be seen at the last minute. Trust me, they would do the same for you, just be nice. more

I feel like it is my duty to post a review after reading that last one. I can't believe that we are going to the same doctor because my experiences with him have be nothing but short of overwhelmingly positive. I have been a patient of Dr. Isaacs for about 3 years now and never plan on leaving. He is a truly a unique personality with a very quick wit. You will be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable doctor in town. It is so nice to finally have found someone who I truly and wholeheartedly trust. He has never left me guessing...nor has he ever been wrong. He is thorough, concise, and compassionate. His office will always make room for you in last minute situations. And I really can't believe the reviews about the staff getting rude. If anything...they have been getting nicer and more accommodating with each visit. I really can't imagine the scenario where Joanne is hanging up on you, and yelling at you, for wanting a refill called in. Sounds to me like maybe your the problem and need to tone down your own attitude. However, no good review is without some criticism. So I will say the only annoyance I have ever had with his office is the occasional long wait times. If anything though, it is a testament to how busy and loyal his patients are. I have sat at times for up to an hour in the waiting room but that is not the norm. They seem to be getting better about this in the new office space and so far wait times have been short. In my experience the best bet is to make you appointments earlier in the day before lunch. But honestly...I don't care about the wait. I am just thankful I can walk in if I want, and know they will do there best to squeeze me in. It's also nice knowing that once I have his attention....it will be undivided and not rushed. And one last thing...I have only seen his PA, Kate Lieberman, a couple times....but I find her to be very helpful and knowledgeable as well. I gladly make appointments with her instead of Dr. Isaacs if he is booked up or if she has an appointment time that is more convenient. more

I have been going here for about four years and each time the experience gets progressively worse. Today I called for a refill to be called into my pharmacy and the receptionist, Joanne, was so rude with me she hung up on me and finally after threatening a bad review, did what I asked and called the pharmacy. She yelled at me, and when I brought up the fact that their online reviews are terrible she just got more combative. I will not go here ANYMORE. Besides... everyone know Isaacs is just here to push narcotics.. Not much of a secret! more

I've been a patient of Dr,. Isaac's for about 10 years and he is kind of a genius. He understands his complicated patients from all walks of life though since he's downtown (Soho) he's been there long enough to become part of the art tradition. also. Anyway he has always been attentive to my needs and yes sometimes I've waited but who hasn't? more

I've been going to Dr. Isaacs for 3 years now and he seems to be a okay doctor, but it's his staff that brings him one star rating. They are rude, make you wait for at least an hour and are horrible about following up with anything requiring a call back outside of your appointment (prescription call-ins, test results, etc...). Every time I call his office- the receptionists are BEYOND rude. They are always putting you on hold (for at 3-5 minutes) at a time and give you major attitude. I seriously feel like I'm dealing with a Kinko's employee and not someone working for a doctor. more

I've been going to Dr. Isaacs for 15 years now and think he's the best. There was a time when I had to go to the Emergency Room while pregnant for a breathing problem. The ER docs couldn't find anything (though they barely tested me), and sent me off, despite the fact that I was turning blue from coughing fits that were closing up my throat. Dr. Isaacs gave me thorough tests and found that I had asthmatic bronchitis, exacerbated by the pregnancy. Problem solved. Over the years he's been similarly thorough and will always see me the day of, if I feel sick. Which is probably why there's always an hour long wait to get in to see him. But I schedule for that as I think he's a terrific internist and there simply aren't that many good GP's in NYC. Pros: Listens to his patients, very thorough, kind Cons: Always late more

I have been a patient (patient is exactly what you'll need to be with the wait time) for over 5 years. why? i don't know, i haven't found anyone else in nyc. i'll be looking now. seriously, he is so condescending, he doesn't listen to you, over talks you when you have concerns and generally wastes your time. his russian receptionist/prescription writer is rude. the staff is generally rude, dismissive and unfriendly. seriously, don't waste your time with dr isaacs, unless you have a full day off of work to wait for him to dismiss your issues. I've been a patient for years. Except for the oft mentioned waiting room time I have recommended Dr. Isaacs to many friends and coworkers, male and female. (If you want a iron-clad guaranteed appointment time, find someone else. On the flip side, if you want someone who will see you when you are sick without an appointment, this is the man.) OK - he's a quirky looking man, and his accent could throw you - but that is no indication of the care you receive. He has always addressed my concerns and answered my questions. He has not over prescribed or given unnecessary treatment to me. This is an office with a number of doctors in different disciplines. Make sure you see the correct receptionist. Only thing I don't love so much is the actual waiting room and office layout. No place to avoid the hackers, and the endless stream of drug reps trying to see all the doctors in the practice makes me think even less of the drug companies. He is a qwack! My wife went to see him for a problem she had and he totally missed diagnosed her. Mean while at the visit he actually pulled her underwear aside to look at her genitalia which was not part of the diagnosis. She did everything to keep me from charging into his practice and giving him a prostate exam with my fist. Note, I am a peaceful man! This guy is incredible. Seems being a fat, slovenly doctor who smokes but had a cameo on Super Size Me gives him the right to be an A-hole; WRONG! Do yourselves a favor, do not go see this guy. Cons: Everything more

I'm amazed that there are any positive reviews of this guy. Either Dr Isaacs is writing these reviews, or as one reviewer implies, he's Dr Feelgood. On a recent visit, I had the privilege of waiting 2 hours for an appt. Dr Isaacs ran in, looking like he'd been up for 3 days straight. He clearly hadn't had the time to shave or bathe either. After spending all of 2 mins examining me, and answering my questions in his patented mumbly, dismissive, condescending way, he told me there was nothing he could do and to take some Tylenol. Thanks doc. A few days later I went to a real doctor who correclty diagnosed me and gave me antibiotics which have since eased my symptoms. Basically, an appointment with Dr Isaaacs is like trying to see a doctor who is running to catch the subway. Something along the lines of: ""Dr Isaacs, i have a fever and...."" to which he'd respond ""Take some tylenol...i'm late for the train"". Indeed, Dr Isaacs lacks a bedside manner or any type of manners. I'd always found going to his practice to be mildly annoying and a waste of time, but if you're actually sick, going there could be hazardous to your health too. Dr. Isaacs is great! I have been going to him for years and he has always been wonderful. He is caring and sensitive and the best DR i have had since moving to NYC. He is a little quirky, but that is all part of his charm. The staff is great, cheery and helpful. Be prepared to wait about an hour to see him. But he is worth the wait. Since he has expanded with a physicians assistant who can often minimize the wait time. Pros: Smart, kind-hearted, attentive, great office staff Cons: LONG WAIT more

I have been (only once) a patient of Dr. Isaacs, whose manner was more lax than most. More importantly, he introduced and facilitated an opiate addiction in one of my closest friends, something I've also heard in gossip from many others. I've heard he was referred to as an easy score for prescription opiates. This is not a positive review. Pros: Easy refills Cons: Can lead to bad habits more
