Great food, Great Service 2/25/2011

I had a chance to work there when I was 11 and I loved it. We then found out that you legally had to be 14 to work in a retail food restaurant so I wasn't able to work there anymore. The owner and his family were ALL very nice and honest people. They would not overcharge you and cheat you out of your money. The owner made sure that everybody had a Food Handler's Permit before being hired, and yes every employee always washed their hands. The ""15 year old manager"" was always very polite to the customers and took care of any problem professionally. more

Great place to eat with the fam! 6/20/2009

Eating at Hungry Bear Pizza was a great experience! Right when I walked into the doors I could tell that this was a different type of atmosphere compared to most restaurants. It's a great place for families or groups to come eat and have a good time. The buffet was low on pizza because it was during slow hours, but they are happy to make any pizza of my choice, and keep it coming out. I read a few other comments and I could not help to feel sad for this ""15-year-old manager"". He is probably at about the age of 17 now, but WOW his heart is there. You can totally tell that he only wants whats best for his families restaurant, and the customer. All of the employees seem to care. It was great customer service and I plan on going again very soon! :) Pros: Great price, delcious food Cons: 7mn wait for fresh food more

Worth The Trip From Salt Lake City!!! 11/25/2008

I have been to a lot of Buffets and this is one of the Bests. Upon walking in I could tell it was family run and it seemed to enhance the whole experience. The Pizza tasted ""Homemade"" and I was treated extremely well from the beginning. It's nice to know there is still places that Care about their customers! The Pizza was amazing and I really liked the Pasta and sauce that tasted freshly made. Pros: Quality Pizza, Pasta Buffet and Salad Bar Games were fun and the dancing Bear was impressive! Cons: No booths. more

Pros: Pizza more

My favorite pizza in a long time! 7/30/2008

By far one of my better choices to choose to eat here. I absolutely loved the place and the food was soo good i would always request their BBQ chicken pizza which for me and my wife is one of the biggest reasons we go there. Our kids always have a blast playing in their arcade area. I loved it and will be recommending this to all my friends and family! Pros: Amazing Pizza With great atmosphere more

embarrassed to admit i worked here 6/1/2008

i worked here for 6 months and then they fired me for speaking my opinion on an improvement in the resturant. from what i have read about what has happened, it's gotten worse. let's just say that the employment has gotten worse but let me inform you all on what goes on behind the counter. first, we didn't have a place to store the cleaning supplies for a while and when they did finally get one, it was right by the food. second most employee's did a very poor job at washing dishes and washing hands. and while i worked there (and from what i heard after i got fired) none of the employees had food handlers permits. it's sad to say but this ""family restaurant"" is not only bad for you temper but bad for your health. Pros: walk-in very nice to bring boys to fool around in (but the food sometimes got in the way) Cons: most things more

Great Food and price! Must Visit! 4/23/2008

I had to write 2 reviews because I had a lkot to say so ""bear"" with me. Pros: Food, service and fun for the family! Cons: It's not fast food, so if that is what you want, then it's not for you. more

PTA Mom continued 4/23/2008

the manager handled the customers ahead of me very well in my opinion. And When I got up there he was very nice and welcoming to me with his smile, even after he had been hassled by the previous family. He then asked me what kind of pizza we liked, and said he would put it in, and that all the rest of the pizza would be out in just a min. I talked to him a little more and found out that he was the owners son and that he had worked there for many years, and I really thought to myself wow, I have a 14 year old son and I can't imagine him even having a job at that age, then alone being MANAGER and putting up with RUDE, Cheap Customers, that leave Very Immature rude comments and still keep a smile on his face. There is no way. I commend him for his ability to do the job so well, and it seemed that everyone was happy to be working with him they were laughing and having fun. My kids and I LOVED the Fabulous pizza at an unbeatable price, and they had a fun time with the games. I am going to tell all my PTA asscoites and frineds about Hungry Bear, It's a great place for Families to go who are on a budget but want incredible pizza, salad and pasta. It's a good thing there are still restaurants out there that have great prices like this so that Families have a fun place to go and be in a good atmosphere! Pros: Food, service, fun for kids Cons: It's not fast food, so if that's what you want it's not for you more

Pay more, get less Hungry bear 4/14/2008

They have losy customer service, the manger Blake is some young kid, who should not be running it. They do not honor the coupons, they charge you for water. They just increased their prices and they food and service stayed the same. I will not be patronizing there in the future. more

It's OK. 3/2/2008

I have been to Hungry Bear 4-5 times and I have a couple of two year olds. I?ve read all the reviews and here?s my opinion. Overall I?d rate it a 3. The crust is pretty good, the sauce is a little salty, the toppings are adequate, but the pasta and salad bar are weak. It is pretty family friendly and does get really noisy when crowded. If you go during non peak times, there are usually just a couple of partial old crusty pizzas on the table. Once they did ask us what we wanted and made us a pizza, but that takes a few minutes. If you go during peak hours getting pizza can be tough. The staff isn?t really attentive so the pizza gets quickly eaten. They will make a couple more as everyone sits around waiting and then when they put it out they are swarmed and the food is gone in about 30 seconds. After about 15-20 minutes the staff finally figures it out and starts cranking out pizzas. Drinks don?t come with the adult buffet but they do with the kids buffet. We usually bring milk for the kids and drink their sodas. They don?t really like this and they do question me about it when I order. You can?t drink water without purchasing a drink. They are a little cheap on that. A glass of fountain soda costs about $0.02. Even if a few people were dishonest, what would it cost them? Maybe $0.50 a day at the worst, but it would greatly improve the customer experience. I think most people are pretty honest about it. After all, it is in Layton, Utah, not some prison cafeteria. I have been overcharged once, but they did reimburse me when I caught it. It is run by kids. I have never seen an adult behind the counter. I think most of the 5 star ratings are postings by their owners and employees, especially the 4/23/07 posting acting as a rebuttal to the 4/2/07 complaint. It?s really suspicious. Pros: Pizza Cons: Service, pizza availability during rush, drink policy isn't customer friendly more

Don't Even Bother . . . 2/11/2008

Disgusting. We took our visiting grandchildren here last Saturday and there were two pizzas on the buffet table and both had been there for a long time. Another pizza was put out but it was PINEAPPLE and JALOPENOS! The salad bar was seriously lacking in condiments -- not even a tomato for the wilty brown tinged lettuce. There are only a few games and none for little children and the place was absolutely filthy. The walls are disgusting and the floor hadn't really seen a good cleaning in a long time. Don't waste your money. It was disgusting and very poorly managed. I would never go back there again. A total waste of my $60. more

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!! 1/28/2008

The whole place was so amazing i will go there again I loved there meat lovers pizza the most just great enviorment good for kids loved it! Pros: Good food! more

HIGHLY LOVED IT!!!!! 1/28/2008

K I dont know about these other reviews but it sounds to me like they're all the same! With the same incedent! But as for me and my family we would eat there every day if we could evry bite i had was AMAZING!!!! Defenetly the best pizza i have had in a long time they took great care of me gave me every special kind of pizza i requested they even had this new bear costume come out that entertained my kids! their great arcade area made it so that me and my wife could enjoy our favorite BBQ pizza without the bother of children! I would HIGHLY RECOMEND HUNGRY BEAR PIZZA! Pros: Great food / Great service more

good food, bad customer service 1/25/2008

the pizza is pretty good if you eat it right when it comes out of the oven but the ""manager"" is is really a 15-year old son of the owner so the customer service is crappy. Pros: pretty low price, good food Cons: Bad customer service and not the best employees more

WARNING!!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!! 1/23/2008

I would not recommend this place to anyone. The food is okay, but the restaurant is run by a bunch of immature high school kids. I can tell you right now that you will come across a problem, and when you do it is pointless to try and talk to the manager about it. Why? Because he is a little 15 year old that has no common sense or customer service skills. Also this immature kid will refuse to give the phone number of his superior if you want to try and resolve the problem with someone who has some respect and knowledge about customer relations. DO NOT EAT HERE. AND IF FOR SOME STRANGE REASON YOU DECIDE TO, CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE YOU START EATING. SEEMS THE EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO OVERCHARGE AND THEN REFUSE TO REFUND YOUR MONEY!!! Pros: ....umm Cons: Purposely overcharge customers, Horrible customer service. more

Worst dining experience of my life! 1/21/2008

Employees were rude, arrogant, and disrespectful! The night manager was 15 and he didn't know the first thing about running the place. He and the other employees treated us like dirt, and insulted my family. We were over charged $20.00, and they refused to refund our money or even give us the name of the owner. I would never, never, ever consider going there again and I would suggest when you hear the name Hungry Bear Pizza that you run as fast as you can and don't look back! Pros: ??? Cons: TERRIBLE more

Worst Customer Service Ever 1/21/2008

This weekend my family and I had a horrible experience here. Half way through our meal, we noticed that we had been charged for drinks when we had specifically asked if they were included in the buffet. The 15-year old night manager said he was TRAINED to ring up drinks for all customers even though we had not asked for them. He refused to refund our money, or even give us the name and number of the owner so that we could take the issue up with him. Then other teenage employees got involved with the issue, and one of them personally insulted my mother and my entire family. Not only that, but they ended up locking customers inside the business against their will for about 5-10 minutes. This was almost 10pm. Shouldn't there be an ADULT present at this time? I will never go there again, and I discourage anyone else from going there. Cons: Inconsiderate Teenage Employees more

Amazing Pizza, nice place to eat, great for kids of all ages 4/23/2007

So one day i went into hungry bear pizza, there was a party coming in. it was already pretty busy and they came in and said only half of us would actually like to eat and the rest just want to come in and sit around with the rest of the party. as i sat there i didnt thinkn it would be a problem and they would let them sit in and enjoy the time with their family. but the guy at the register said that they all had to pay to get in. i was confused about this so i asked if i could talk to the owner of the resturaunt. he came out and we talked for a while about his buissness and he ezplained to me very well why he did what he did. he said that they do not suspect everyone of being criminals and would eat the pizza without paying but if you let one person in without paying, the next person who might be a person who would steal the food would say ""i already ate before"" and then when they say no they would say, ""you let them!"" that is what causes problems. its not that they think everyone would steal pizza. its just to hard for the employees to watch and get the ones that will. i also asked him about his prices becuase i had heard complaints about it. i thought it was a good price, especially after he compared it with me to other prices, at McDonalds you get a meal for around 6 bucks and the whole buffet of pizza pasta sald breadsticks and desert pizza with a drink (drinks are extra) was 7.25 with tax. i thought it was a really resonable price. actually a little low. i asked about the drinks also and he said that the drinks were extra because he wanted people to choose if they wanted a drink or not. they dont have free water either fror the same reason they dont let people in without paying for the buffet. the drinks are a good preice for all you want. its about 1.50 or so i dont remember exactly. but at most places with al you want to drink drinks its about 2 bucks. well i think its a great place and i will be back alot. Pros: great food, nice place, great for kids Cons: when busy hard to get around sometimes more

Terrible food, Even worse customer service 4/2/2007

I was there attending a b-day party this past weekend. Upon entering we were told that we must pay for a buffet before we would be allowed in. I informed the young lady at the counter that we were there for a b-day party and were not interested in eating. We had eaten before we came. We had been here before and didn't care for the food. I was told again that we would not be permitted to enter until we paid. I offered to purchase a drink and that still was not sufficient. The host of the b-day party overheard this discussion and came to pay for those of us trying to get in. I asked to speak to the manager and informed him what my intentions were. I explained that we had eaten before we came and that we were not going to partake of the buffet. I was then told that people come in for b-day parties all the time taking up space, loitering and eating from the buffet when they haven't paid therefor it was their policy to charge everyone. I felt as though he was accusing me of trying to rip them off. I had every intention of paying for everything me & my family drank. I also planned on spending money in the arcade and on the little toys they offer for the children. The manager told me that if it were not for the b-day party goers that he would be able to fill the place and make all that money. I decided my complaints were falling on deaf ears and walked away. The host of the party I was attending remained and overheard the manager complaining to his employees about us, using degrading language and calling names. I observed the crowd that came into the establishment for the next 2 hours that I was there. There were 6 parties that took up several tables, and 4 of the remaining 18 or so tables did get occupied. It is my opinion that without these ""inconvenient"" party goers Hungry Bear Pizza would go out of business. I also feel that they should treat all of their patrons with more respect. I will not return to this establishment. Pros: Good for kids Cons: All other aspects of this establishment more
